I ran.

I ran until my lungs burned. I ran until my legs could barely keep me standing.

I tried to run away from what I saw in the spirit realm, but nothing worked.

I didn't want to admit how much that scene of Byron destroying everything really irked me or how every time I closed my eyes it replayed. I didn't want to admit how much pressure this all was.

My legs finally gave out and I collapsed. I realized I was by the lake Derek had taken me to before we made things official.

I walked towards the water. I looked at my reflection in the lake and I couldn't recognize who I was staring back at me.

I've been trying to deal with this on my own. I didn't want to make other people carry my burdens.

As I tried to look deeper within myself, I realized they're not just my burdens. I didn't cause this. None of this was my fault. I can't face everything on my own.

I regret being so dismissive of the people who genuinely just want to help me.

I needed to wash everything away.

I stripped down to my underwear and jumped in.

As soon as my head was completely submerged underwater, I felt the pain being erased.

I resurfaced then let myself float on my back for a long while.

"Threat. Look around." Benjamin whispered into my mind.

I can't catch a fucking break, can I?

I stopped floating and turned my head around to see a figure standing on the pier.

It was looking right at me.

I slowly swam back and climbed onto the pier.

"You've caused us a lot of trouble." the woman said to me.

"Who are you?" I said as I reached for my things.

"You'll find out shortly." she replied with a devilish grin.

I suddenly felt a sharp pain in my right arm. I looked down to see an arrow sticking out of it. This wasn't like a normal arrow.

Wolfsbane.

I tried to stay conscious. I tried to fight. I tried to breath.

Nothing worked.

Derek's POV

Kylie had been withdrawing from everyone. I knew she was hiding something, but I didn't know what.

Every time I tried to ask, she would shut me down or dismiss me.

I know she went through a lot and she needed time to process, but she doesn't have to do it all alone.

I hate that this life was chosen for her. She didn't have a choice in any of it, now she feels responsible for everyone. She feels responsible for saving everyone. I felt that way once, it ate me up inside until there was nothing left.

Kylie helped guide me out of that, even though she may not realize it. I just want to return the favor.

I dropped Scott off and headed back to my place. I figured Kylie just needed some time to be alone, so I didn't bother her. She rarely answers her phone anymore.

That's why I only started to worry when her sisters messaged me that she never came home and Scott told me she wasn't at school.

I checked the location of her phone and it was by the lake I had taken her to.

Maybe her phone died and she was still just out somewhere. I decided to drive there and check anyways.

As soon as I parked my car by the pier, I could feel that something was wrong.

I walked onto the pier and I saw her clothes, her bag, and her phone.

And blood. A lot of blood.

I should've checked earlier. I should've ran after her. I should've done something.

I started to bang my fists against the boards beneath me until they broke in half and my knuckles were bruised.

I should've done more.

-------------

"What do you mean someone took her?" Stiles asked.

"I mean someone fucking took her."

"How do you know?" he continued.

I threw her clothes and her bag at their feet. Allison looked up at me in horror.

"There was a trail of blood, too." I replied as I tried to maintain my composure.

Scott ran his hand through his hair, then suggested "Why don't we just go back and try to track her?"

"You think I didn't try? They covered her scent."

Lydia barged into my apartment and we all looked to her.

"I know she's gone." she took a deep breath before continuing, "But, there's been more sacrifices."

"How many?" Stiles asked.

"Three. All next to each other. That means they only need two more."

We all stopped. This is not good. Especially with Kylie missing, we'd have to really scramble to stop this.

"They must know we've been looking for them and they're trying to speed up the process. They probably followed us from the banshees apartment and waited for Kylie to be alone." Scott thought out loud.

"I'm going to kill that banshee bitch." I spat out. I was seeing red. I could feel myself shifting.

Scott moved closer to me, blocking my path to all of the others.

"Derek, you need to calm down." he said to me.

I almost wanted to laugh, "Calm down? Who knows what they could be doing to her. For all we know she's already dead and you want me to calm down?" I moved closer to Scott. "You think if Allison was kidnapped you wouldn't act like this, Scott?"

He blinked a couple of times trying to process what I had said.

"We're going to find her." was all Scott could muster up.

I slowly felt myself shifting back, but the anger I felt did not fade. I walked towards the training room and punched the wall. My fist went straight through to the other side.

I knew we would find her, I just didn't want to know what state she would be in.
