I showed up to girl's night bawling my eyes out. Allison and Lydia immediately comforted me (and maybe gave me an entire bottle of wine to myself). I told them everything, and I mean everything. They just sat their and listened while I explained, which was comforting. After I got done, they said they had a plan to get my mind off of things.
Next weekend, we were going on a trip.
I never really took vacations, so I was really excited about it.
In the mean time, Scott and I found an abandoned warehouse to train in. Allison gave him a quick overview of everything and he immediately agreed to helping me. In a way I think it's better this way. Scott didn't go as easy on me as Derek did.
"You're getting a lot better, Kylie." said Scott.
"Aw, thanks. I think this really helps me, you know, channeling my anger into something."
"That's what you'll have to do when Peter comes back. It will really give you an advantage. Just, try not to let it consume you."
I nodded. Scott has been giving me really helpful tips on how to control my emotions. I also appreciate how much closer we've gotten this past week. It feels like we really understand each other.
"Well, you better go and get ready for your trip. Allison will kill me if you're late." Scott said, jokingly.
I laughed and waved goodbye.
I am so ready for this trip.
---------------
"Do you have a fake?" Lydia asked me.
"Yeah, but it looks terrible." I said while examining the fake ID, I'd gotten a year ago.
"We don't need quality, we just need you to have one."
"Where are we even going?"
Allison laughed, "You'll see."
---------------
We arrived at a hotel in a small college town about two hours from Beacon Hills.
"Well, Lydia and I thought about it, and we know you would prefer guys you're age rather than high school guys. Annndddd that you like to drink, so we thought a college would be perfect!" said Allison, excitedly.
Lydia added, "Plus, we know you want to go to college someday, so we can also just see how the atmosphere is here."
I started sniffling.
"Oh no, Kylie, don't cry. We can find somewhere else to go." Allison exclaimed.
"No, no. These are tears of joy. You know me so well."
---------------
We all got ready in the hotel room. We drank a little bit, listened to some music, and just laughed. It was the best I've felt in a while.
"Okay, Allison found this cute little bar about 5 minutes away. We can walk to it." Lydia stated.
"They are also notoriously known for accepting fakes." Allison added.
"That's perfect."
We arrived at the bar and it was cute. It was nothing groundbreaking, but it'll get the job done. We ordered some drinks and sat at the bar talking. I could tell there were some guys looking in our direction, but I don't even want to think about men right now.
Unfortunately, these guys had other plans.
This guy came up to me. He was really tall, built, and had shaggy brown hair.
"Hey, can I buy you a drink?" he asked me.
"Depends what kind?"
"Whatever you want." he said with a wink.
I told the bartender to get us two tequila shots.
Each.
"What's your name?" I asked.
"Gavin. You?"
"Kylie."
Gavin joined in the conversation with Allison, Lydia, and I. He was funny and sweet. He kept trying to compliment me, but I kept brushing them off.
Eventually Lydia and Allison decided they wanted to leave, but I just wanted to be out. I had no intentions to do anything with Gavin, but it was nice talking to someone new.
I told them that they had my location and I could handle myself. So, they went back to the hotel.
Gavin and I still talked for a little bit about unimportant things. How old I actually was, what I was doing, what I was interested in, all that nonsense.
Eventually he said he wanted to go outside for a smoke. I said I'd follow him for some fresh air.
"How do you smoke those things? It tastes horrible and it causes cancer." I asked.
"It just takes the edge off. Especially being in college with all the work, I just like it sometimes."
I nodded. We stood there in silence for a while, just enjoying the brisk evening air.
"Do you want to get out of here?" Gavin inquired.
"Look, you're a really nice guy and I really appreciate the drinks you bought for my friends and I, but I should really be going back."
"What? You can't just use me like that."
"Excuse me?"
Gavin finished his cigarette, threw it on the ground, and stepped on it.
"When you invest in something, don't you think you're entitled to a reward?" Gavin stated stepping closer to me.
"Listen, I'd be glad to take your number and become friends, but I'm not that kind of person." I said stepping backwards until my back hit the dumpster.
Suddenly, I was back in the forest at that campfire with Brian.
"No, that's not how this works." He sighed, "You owe me something."
I couldn't breathe. I froze. I had a million thoughts racing through my head. I kept flashing back to the campfire. I know I could kill this guy if I wanted to, but I couldn't move. I can't breathe, I can't...
"Kylie."
Gavin turned around to face the voice.
I'm still pissed at Derek for everything, but I am so glad he's here.
Wait, did he follow us?
"I've been texting you for hours, why haven't you responded?" asked Derek, with an eyebrow raised.
"Who the hell is this guy?" Gavin asked, getting visibly upset.
"I'm her boyfriend and you are leaving."
My senses aren't great, but I do know that when someone lies their heart skips a beat. I didn't hear Derek's skip at all.
Derek grabbed my arm and pulled me away from Gavin. Gavin just started kicking things around the dumpster out of frustration.
Derek walked with me towards the end of the block.
"Here, take my jacket. You're freezing."
I took it and put it on. Trying to figure out what to say,
"I got word that Peter might be following you. I don't know if he's alone or if he has others. I wanted to tail you to make sure you wouldn't be blindsided. Especially since you haven't been answering any of my calls or texts." Derek rubbed the back of his neck.
There were so many thoughts swirling through my head. I was still angry. Not angry, hurt. Derek had been my home for the past couple of months, then it all came crashing down.
"I just," he sighed, "god Ky, I miss you so much."
"That's not going to fix anything." I hugged myself and and tried to choke back the tears that so desperately wanted to fall.
"I know it's not. I want to tell you everything. Can you at least give me that?"
