Pat's P.O.V:
"We need to run away", I say to Korn who has his eyes wide in shock.
"You're gonna run away with Pran?!" He starts to grab at his hair and look at me in disbelief.
"Well, I haven't told Pran's about this plan... but I think it's for the best, as there is no way that we will be able to come up with that money for that bastard!"
"Well maybe you could-"
"No," I take a deep breath and with a heavy heart I say my worst fear, "that motherfucker will definitely expose us to our parents, and who knows what they'll do to us!"
He studies me, searching for any sign of hesitation. He sighs, "how am I going to explain this to Wai? And how the hell are you gonna convince Pran?"
I smile for what feels like the first time in a while, "you don't have to worry too much about that." I say while motioning to my face, he scoffs.
"And here I am worried like an idiot for the idiot in front of me."
I laugh.
But I also start to wonder how I am going to explain this to Wai as well. I can't let Korn be the one to tell him, otherwise Wai will hunt him and me down.
I can't have that happening, not before Pran and me finally get a chance at freedom. The freedom from societal constraints, and from our families' expectations.
We would finally be able to be ourselves. Our true selves.
