With flying colours

F2

6 months later

It was the end of the 2017 F2 championship and Lando got to debut for his chance to race F2, in the Yas Marina Circuit.
This race was a step to his dream of F1, since he was only a reserve driver for Campos racing he had to prove to the other teams who had seats opening up that he was good enough to race every race.

He was under a lot of pressure and stressing about it, thinking he wasn't good enough. I didn't really want to be around him right now because I was scared if he lost he would scream and shout at me but I wasted to be there for him.

It was the final round of the F2 championship, so he knew he wasn't going to be high on the table, he decided he needed to push the car to its limits to get as high of a place as he could.

The race was about to begin and I was so worried for him, the team let me stay and watch with them, it was so scary watching him out there so I decided to look away out of fear, I was so scared he would crash.

The moment I looked away the team has to retire his car, we were only 5 laps in. I didn't know what his emotions would be like so I decided to prepare for the worst.
He brought the car back to the garage safely and got out.

He wasn't actually mad, he was thanking the team for choosing him to drive and telling them he was sorry for not doing better.
We stayed and watched until the race ended and everyone was out the cars, in total only 16 people finished but everyone was safe which I was so thankful for even though I didn't know them.
After the race and the celebrations of the winners, somebody came up to Lando and patted his back.

"Mr Lando Norris, I think you will enjoy what I have to offer you." the man said, Lando suddenly because really happy but also a bit shy.  "Our team has been watching you in F3 and you did pretty well today in the car for your first time, especially in this heat." I could see Lando bursting to say something out of joy.

"SPIT IT OUT ALREADY, HES GOING TO COMBUST" I said, maybe a little louder than I intended
"I am from Carlin and we want you to race for us next season." he said and immediately Lando jumped up and down screaming like a little girl but quickly stopped and became serious again.
"Yes sir, I accept. I would really like that, tell the team I'm racing next season" he said with a straight face.

How can somebody go from really joyful to that serious in a second? This boy really confuses me sometimes.

"Thank you sir, we will email you soon and tell you all the details" the man said and then walked away.

We went back to the garage and told the team what he was offered and they were all so happy about it, they were sad he was leaving them but also very happy for him.
We ran to go find his dad after leaving the team, we found him at a milkshake stand with max. Both of them sipping on milkshakes.

"EXCUSE ME MISTER, PUT THAT DOEN YOUR NOT ALLOWED IT" I shouted at max from a couple meters away. He immediately put it down and turned to face me.
"Can I have it if I get you one too?" He replied looking like a little puppy
"I suppose I could let it slide this one time" I replied making everyone chuckle.

We told them the news and they were so happy, they were watching the race in the garage with me but then left once everyone had finished, we didn't know where they went and assumed they just wanted boy time, turns out they just wanted milkshake time.

We decided to stay in Abu-dabi for the next week for a little holiday to see all the views then went back home. Lando went to England with his dad and I went to Monaco with max.

After getting home everything was going as normal but then there was a knock at the door, neither of us were expecting anyone so we answered to see who it was.

"Hayden???" max said.
Why the fuck did he have to come here. Everything was perfect, he always ruins everything. We have all been so worried about him and his family after they disappeared but then everyone just stopped looking because they did us all wrong. What did he want?
