Chapter 21- wall dogs

Winters pov
The next day it was about 4:00 in the morning when I was woken up by a sound. I listened and heard it again. It sounded like a bunch of beeps then a buzzer, then Ray yelling. It continued so I dragged myself out of bed and trudged into the man cave. Ray didn't even notice me until I was right next to him. He looked up. "What?" He said. I looked at him. Sighed. Then snapped. "STOP IT!!" I said. "No! I'm trying to find leads on the wall dogs." "At four in the morning?" I said. "It is? Well crime never rests so neither can I!" He said going back to the monitor. Another round of beeps before it buzzes signaling a dead end. "Dang it!" He yelled frustrated. "You may never rest but I do! What's the big deal about a couple of graffiti artists?" He turned to me. "What's the big deal? The big deal is that they are spying other people property that doesn't deserve to be painted! And when I was a boy-" "yeah I already know some kids sprayed your playhouse." He raised his eyebrows. "How did you know about that?" He asked. "You already told me." Well technically little ray told me but whatever. "Oh. Then you know how important it is that we find them!" The monitor beeped. "Yes! They're going tone at the golf course tonight! That's when we can get them!" I nodded. "Fine. Whatever. Can I go back to sleep now?" "Fine! But be ready for tonight!" I went back to my room and slept.

That night
Henry, captain man and I were all waiting behind a bush for the wall dogs to arrive. Captain man wouldn't stop drinking that big soda. Then of course he had to go to the bathroom. That left henry and I watching and waiting. "What if they're not coming?" Henry asked. "Trust me they'll be here." I said. We continued watching then henry put his hand in front of his goggles. "I'm the hand monster raaaa!" I tried to look unamused but I wound up laughing. "You can not take your job seriously can you?" He grinned. "That's not true! I can't take life seriously!" We continued quietly laughing. "So how are things with you and Bianca?" I asked. I really didn't mean anything by it but he frowned. "We're kind of taking a break." "What why?!" I said surprised. "I saw her talking to another guy earlier yesterday and it really looked like flirting but when I talked her about it after the party we somehow ended up in a fight. And long story short it got pretty bad and we decided it was best to give each other some space." I felt bad for him. He keeps getting into good relationships but somehow they enter seem to last. "Oh. Sorry about that. I hope you guys get back together. You looked cute as a couple." There was some silence. Finally I needed to get out. "Hey I'm going to go watch the other side of course. You stay here and yell if you need help." I say and he snickers. "Me? Need help? I can handle a few kids. I'm kid danger!" I laughed. "Yeah. That's what I'm worried about!" I said before walking off.
(You all know what happened next.)
I waited for a while on the other side of the course before deciding to go back and check in on henry. I walked back and saw henry handcuffed to the ball washer. "Hey winter. What's up?" He said trying to sound cool but I was about ready to kill him. "What happened to 'I can handle a few kids?!'" I said mimicking his voice. "There were more than I thought?" I kept glaring at henry then Ray came back. "I'm done peeing!" He said not noticing what had happened.

At the man cave
Charlotte started to pick the lock on the handcuff key. I gave him a gum ball for him to change back. Ray was lecturing henry about how he let them get away. Then I heard him say she. "She?" I questioned. "You got hand cuffed by a girl?" Charlotte asked. "Yeah! She was a really tuff girl! With pretty eyes." I rolls my eyes. Then I looked at him closer. "What's that on your lips?" I asked and Ray saw it too. "Uh nothing!" Henry said panicking. Ray got closer an felt his lips. "Huh. Shiny. Sticky." He licked his finger which grossed me out. "Strawberry!" Ray said and I immediately caught on. "Lip gloss?" Charlotte asked. "Did that girl wall dog kiss you?" Ray asked but we all knew the answer. "No! ...She kissed me." He said looking down and we all sighed with aggravation I was mad for two reasons. One, because he let all the wall dogs get away, and TWO! He cheated on Bianca! "You let your guard down! And you let a criminal escape because the criminal happened to be a PRETTY GIRL!" Henry tried to defend himself. "An EXTREMELY pretty girl!" He said and I rolled my eyes. "Got the handcuffs off." Charlotte said and Ray started pacing. "Ray, winter, I'm sorry. I really did try to catch the wall dogs." Ray nodded. "I just wish we had more information! Like where there hideout is or where they're hiding!" He said frustrated. "Did that girl say anything to you that might help us know where they'll be?" I asked. He seemed to look off into the distance for a minute then quickly look back. "No. Nothing." I raised my eyebrows at him. "Are you sure? Cause it looked like you were thinking about something." Ray said. "Yeah. What were you thinking about?" Charlotte asked. He looked at the floor. "Pizza." Don't get me wrong I love henry as my best friend. But the kid is about as good at lying as he is at history. But I decided to drop the subject for now. But I'm keeping an eye on that kid. He knows something that he's not sharing. The next day we spent the whole day checking the monitors for the wall dogs but they weren't anywhere. Well stayed late that night. It was almost midnight. Charlotte had already taken off for the night. "Hey Ray. I think I'm gonna head home. I'm pretty tired." He started to back up. Ray yawned and stood up. "Okay henry. I think I need some coffee. You want anything winter?" I shook my head. "No I'm good." I turned back to the monitor and Ray left. I heard a pop and turned around to see henry as kid danger. "Where are you going?" I asked. "Um home." I raised my eyebrows. "Your going home as kid danger?" He started to panic. "Well it's because... Um you know what I don't have to explain myself to you!" He said quickly. He started to leave. "Fine don't tell me where your going. But remember this. Becoming evil is a short road. But getting back is road that's a lot longer." He stopped but didn't turn around. Then he went up the tube. There's no way I'm waiting around here. I waited a minute, then went up too. If he's going to do something stupid I have to stop him. I have to save him. I saw him take an ally way and I followed behind. He took all the back routes and shady ally's. But then he started climbing mount Swellview. I followed. By the time I got to the top I was exhausted. I leaned against a rock where I could watch everything. Henry stepped into the clearing. "Hello? Girl? *whistles* here wall dog!" A girl with blond hair stepped out. "You came." Their voices got quiet and I couldn't make out what they were saying until she kissed him. That hurt a little. I'm not sure why though. Then she picked up a can of spray paint. She held it out to him but he didn't except. Then they kissed again. Then he started to take the can. I blew a bubble and stepped out. "Kid danger stop!" I called and they spun around surprised. "Did you call her?!" The girl said angry. "No! I have no idea what Wintersmyth is doing here!" He spat out my name like a bad taste in his mouth. Which also hurt. "Kid danger don't do this! You don't know what your doing!" He laughed. "I think I know exactly what I'm doing! I'm making a choice for myself! And I don't need my babysitter telling me whether or not it's a good decision!" "Your job is to protect Swellview! You can't join them! It's not who you are!" I said pointing at the girl.  He rolled his eyes. "Since when did you know who I am?! And besides captain man doesn't need me! He's got you! Miss perfect! The next big superhero! You have powers! Your clearly his favorite!" "You know that's not true!" I said back. "Yes it is! Your more focused! Miss too busy training to spend time with anyone else!" Now I was angry and hurt. "Yeah I do take my training seriously! You want to know why?! So I don't my powers which are 'so great' to accidentally wipe out the city! Because I could do that if I wanted to!" He didn't have an answer just rolled his eyes. "Kid danger lets get out of here before the cops show up!" I pointed at her. "Oh yeah and since when did you start being with her?!" I said. "Since I wanted to be!" "Well what about Bianca?!" I said. "In case you didn't notice me and Bianca are done! I don't care about her anymore!" I decided to play the only card I had left. "What about me? Do you still love me? Because your like my family! In fact your the only family I have! You taught me that this city was worth saving! And I won't become evil again so I won't go with you! I know somewhere deep down you still love me and I can't live without you!" I thought I saw something change in his face before he replaced it again with anger. "Well that sucks for you! Because I don't love you! Not anymore! In fact, I don't think I ever did love you! You never meant anything to me!" That felt like a bullet to the chest. "You don't mean that." I said quieter. "Yes. I. Do." Now I wanted to cry. "Fine! But tell me this! If someday you find yourself trapped and the only way out is to hurt someone, and trust me that day will come! Do you really have the guts to hurt an innocent person?! Is that really who you are?!" Now tears were right at the edge of my eyes. One accidentally slipped and rolled down my cheek. His face changed but he didn't say anything. "Just go." He finally said. "Fine. Goodbye kid danger. If I can call you that anymore." Then I ran down the mountain. Tears streaming down my face. He never loved me. All this time I thought we would always be like family but those four words proved me wrong all along. I texted Charlotte. "Henry's at the Swellview sign." I didn't wait for a response I just kept running. Why did I ever believe him! My heart had never felt so crushed. It was so easy for him to say that like he didn't even think about it. I ran all the way to an ally before I stopped. I just stood there crying. My phone still in my hand. I felt so dark inside. Why did I ever become good? Everything became so confusing after I became good! I've never felt so alone. Suddenly I felt hands grab me and a cloth over my mouth. My phone fell out of my hands. I tried to use my powers but my energy drained so fast I was unconscious before I hit the ground.
