Chapter 19- time travel

Henry's pov
Tonight is my date with Bianca. You might be wondering how I got to liking her. Well after I decided to move on i went to class. Usually I sit next to winter but I saw Bianca sittin in the back so I decided to sit with her. After all we were friends. But but I haven't spent much time with her since I started being kid danger and dating winter. "Hi Bianca!" I smiled at her. She gave me a small smile back. "Hi henry." Then she looked away again. "So how are things?" I asked. "Oh so you mean now that you actually have some free time you'll actually consider talking to me?" She said annoyed. "Look in sorry that we haven't spent much time together lately but I would like to change that if that's okay with you." She smiled. "Well I never said I wasn't fine with that." We talked for the rest of class and I sat with her at lunch. As we were eating she started talking. "I heard about you and winter. Im sorry." I shrugged. "It's kind of my own fault. I did dump five gallons of mud on her." She laughed. "Yeah. Why did you do that?" "Well it was meant for Mitch Bilsky because he was messing with winter but I accidentally pressed the button. She understands that now but she still wanted to break up because she wanted to focus on school without the drama." That wasn't a complete lie. "Well that's her loss. I would consider myself lucky to have a guy who would stand up for me like that." She looked into my eyes then I felt something. A spark. It happened. I was moving on. I now have a crush on Bianca. So I decided to get advice from winter on how to ask her out. So the next day I walked straight up to Bianca in the halls and said it. "Bianca I'm sorry that we haven't been hanging out but I want you to know that I really like you. Your always nice and cool and I would be lucky to have you. And I just have to ask if you'll go out with me?" By then people had gathered around waiting anxiously for an answer. She said yes and everyone cheered. We decided to go out the next night since tomorrow was Friday. And tomorrow I should also tell winter that her advice worked! I was excited, but something felt wrong. Like it wasn't what I should be doing. Oh well!

Winters pov
After school I did my usual. I went back to the man cave to train and henry was helping me. Training can get old fast. After a while henry said he had to go change. I shrugged and kept doing what i was doing. Then schwaz came in dragging this big machine that looked like a fancy door. "Woah! What is this!" I said walking to it. He jumped in front of it. "No! Do not touch!" He said. "Why? What is it?" I asked. "It's a time travel machine." He said proudly. "Woah! Does it work?" I asked excitedly. "Vell going somewhere is the easy part. You just jump time planes. But getting back is the hard part." He said. "How?" I asked. "Say if you were to travel to 1945. You may be able to come back, but you may leave a few organs in 1945." I gasped. "But I sort of need my organs!" I said. "Then do not touch! I'm going to take it to a dump tomorrow." He said and left. Henry came back wearing nice clothes and he had combed his hair. "Where are you going dressed like that?!" I asked. "On my first date with Bianca!" He said excitedly. "Oh. Right. Bianca." I said. "What's wrong with her? Wait a minute. You don't want me going out with her!" He caught on. "What?! Why would I care who you go out with?! Even if it is an average boring person." He got annoyed. "I can't believe you! You don't want to date me but you don't want me to date anyone else?!" "I never said that! I don't care what you do!" "Oh so you don't care about me!" This was going nowhere fast. "You know I don't think that this friends thing is working out! Maybe we should just go our separate ways!" I yelled. "Maybe we should!" Henry yelled back. He turned and bumped into the time travel machine. "Don't touch that schwaz said it's dangerous!" I warned. "Schwaz says its dangerous!" He mimicked. "Why don't you stop bossing me around miss icy cold!" That was the last straw. "Get away from that machine!" I yelled. "Make me!" He yelled back and he started pressing buttons. Then he picked up a remote. "I wonder what this does?" I ran and grabbed it from him. One thing led to another in the tug of war and somehow the power button was pressed. A portal opened in the door and we were sucked through. I felt myself hit the ground. I opened my eyes. I was no longer in the man cave. I was outside of Junk'N'Stuff. But it wasn't there. "Ow! Why'd you have to push me into that?!" Henry said getting up and not noticing things were different. "Henry?" I said. "What?" He said grumpily. "Henry look!" I motioned around us. He finally noticed. "Uh here are we?" He asked. "I think we're in Swellview, but not our Swellview." I said. "What are you talking about?" He said confused. "You know that machine you insisted on screwing around with?! Yeah that was a time machine! You sent us back in time you idiot!" I yelled. "It's not my fault! If you hadn't been so selfish I wouldn't have been pressing buttons!" "Me selfish? I was actually sad after we broke up! I didn't just turn right to my next choice!" "Well if you were so sad why didn't we just get back together!" "Because your a distraction! Everyone is expecting me to be something and you have no idea what kind of pressure on under!" He looks at me. "I didn't know. Why didn't you tell me?" I looked away. "Let's just figure out where we are and how to get back." We thought for a minute. "We should walk around and find out where we are first." I said. We started walking. "Wait! We have to be careful. Remember in all those time travel movies where someone changed something and the whole future changed? Yeah let's not do that! Which means don't move anything. Don't talk to as many people as possible and DONT change the future!" He rolled his eyes. "We won't change the future! We're just two people how much could we change things?" He said and we continued walking. Soon we came up to a big building with MANCHESTER RESEARCH LAB written on it. "Wait a minute. Isn't this Rays dads science lab?" I asked. "Yeah it is! Cool! This is where Ray got densitized!" Henry said. "Yeah it happened July 23, 1990." I said. "Well let's go check it out!" Henry said. "Shouldn't we at least find out what year it is?" I asked and he nodded. I saw a kid on a skateboard passing by. I ran in his way. "Hey stop! Kid!" He saw me and tried to swerve around me but flew into the bushes. "Winter! You couldn't have just waved at him?!" Honesty said and we ran over and pulled the kid out of the bushes. "Are you okay?" I asked. "Yeah. But what'd you do that for? Are you going to beat me up?!" He asked getting nervous. He looked to be about ten. "No no! We just needed some help!" Henry said thinking of an excuse. "Yeah see were from the-" Henry put his hand over my mouth. "We're from fibberton! And our bus broke down so we need somewhere to stay while its in the shop!" He lied. I pulled him to the side. "Why are you lying?" I asked. "Don't you think it would seem a little far fetched to someone if we just walked out and announced to the world were from the future? Would you believe that?" I nodded. "Okay fine." We turned back to the kid. "Hey you guys can stay at my house while your bus gets fixed!" He said. "That would be great! Thanks uh what's your name?" I asked. "Ray. Ray Manchester. I'm nine! My dad owns this building! I'm going there now want to meet him?" We nodded. The boy picked up his skateboard and we walked to the lab. "Wow this is heavy. Ray as a little kid? And we're older than him? This has got to be a dream! And I don't think he has powers yet because it hurt him when he flew into the bushes." I whispered to henry. We walked through the door right as mr. Manchester finished working on his machine. Then he densitized a pane of glass. "Whoa the molecular densitizor! Henry whispered." I shushed him. "Daddy! Meet my new friends! Can they stay with us while their bus gets fixed?" Ray asked. "Yes yes sure Ray. But right now daddy is busy being a scientist!" He practically shoved Ray out the door. "Wow talk about a workaholic!" I said. "Yeah he's like that a lot. Wait. What is your guy's names?" We knew we couldn't tell him our real names because in the future Ray would remember us from the past. "Uh my name is Sharon." I said. "And my name is Clyde." Henry said. "Do you guys want to see a trick?" He started to skate down the hall but I stopped him. "Don't you think you should do that outside?" I said. "Okay. Let's go!" He said and we went outside. We were out there for a while until Ray said that his dad was bringing us to the house soon. We went inside and mr. Manchester was putting a sheet over the machine. "How did it go daddy?" He asked. It still feels so wired talking to my boss who isn't my boss yet. "It went not so well. A lot of people think that my machine is dangerous and they won't buy it. Well let's take you and your friends home." He said and we walked out and he locked the lab. "Not to be rude, but I can't help asking, why are you dressed like that? Your clothes don't exactly look like their from today." I realized that we must look wowed compared to the stayed of back in time. "Um what exactly is today?" I asked. "Why it's july 23, 1990 of course!" I gasped and pulled henry aside. "Henry? Do you realize what we've done? It's july 23!" I said. "So? Ray gets densitized today! Cool!" Henry said not catching on. "No not cool! It's the end of July 23! Which means when he was supposed to get densitized it didn't happen! I think it was when we stopped him from skateboarding in the halls! We changed the future!" I panicked. "No you stopped him from skateboarding in the halls so you changed the future!" I glared so many daggers at him he'd be a hart kabob! "So if he never gets powers he never becomes a superhero!" I said. "And I never become his sidekick!" Henry said. "All the times captain man has saved the day. Will there even be a Swellview in 25 years?" I had a really bad feeling stirring up in my stomach. We got into his brown Audi 100 Sudan and I can honesty say I have never seen an uglier car. We drove to rays house. It looked pretty normal with two floors except it looked so compact and it had pointy ends of the roof. I am so glad I didn't have to see the 90's! We got inside and saw that it was actually bigger than it looked from the outside. We went up the stairs into the living room which was attached to the kitchen and dining room. There was a hall to the left which led to the bathroom and three bedrooms. Downstairs was a stateroom and family room and two empty rooms. The family room had a nice piano in it. Henry and I were sleeping in one room so we went in and started planning. "Okay so Ray didn't get densitized today so we have to do that before we get back. What's the plan?" Henry asked and we thought for a minute. "Well first we should get some clothes from this decade so we don't stand out. Then we just have to find a way to make an accident happen so Ray does get densitized." I said. "Well we better hurry because tomorrow night Ray is supposed to stop his frost criminal from taking over Swellview! Then we need to find a way back home because the remote will kill us if we try to use it." Henry said. "What?! Okay we need to take this one step at a time. Step one, clothes." We walked into town and everything looked so strange. "I think I like Swellview from the future better." I said. Soon we came to a store for teens. All the outfits looked ridiculous! "There's no way I'm wearing any of this!" I said but henry stopped me. "Let's make a deal. I'll pick out whatever your wearing and you'll pick out what I'm wearing! Deal?" I shook his hand and went to work.
A little while later.
I stepped out of the dressing room and so did henry. The minute we saw each other we broke out laughing. "This is unbelievable! People actually wore this stuff?!" I said in between laughs. "Nice neon skirt mrs. Marshan!" He he laughed. "Nice sweater squiggles!" I replied. We paid for our clothes and went back to the house to continued planning. We came up with the idea that tomorrow morning we will convince him to skateboard in the halls and when he gets right in front of the machine I'll turn it on and he'll get densitized and then we'll train him enough so he can take down the guy tomorrow night. It seems pretty half baked but we don't have much time. It'll work. It has to. Lester that night after dinner me and Henry went to bed. There were two single beds on both sides of the room. At first I tried to sleep, but things kept flying through my head. "Henry?" I asked. "Can't sleep either?" He asked sitting up. "Not for a minute. Do think their looking for us back in our time?" I asked. "Probably. But when we get back well go to the minute we left so it will be like nothing happened." He said. "Your mean if we get back." I said. "No I mean when we get back. We'll find a way. We always do." He said coming to my bed and sitting next me. "But honestly how many time machines do you see lying around 1990? What if we don't make it out of this one? What if we get trapped in 1990 forever?" I asked. "We won't. And if we do well just start betting on horse races until we're million airs and buy mansions and live till we're one hundred!" He said poking me and making me laugh. "Don't worry. Well make it home." He said and hugged me. "I'm glad to have a friend like you. I'll always want you in my life." I whispered. "Yeah. Me too."
Next morning.
I woke up and got dressed and then shook henry. "Henry get up!" I said. "Winter? Why are you in my room?" He asked. "I'm not in your room and your not in your room were in 1990 remember?" I asked and he shot up straight. "We're in 1990! It wasn't jus a dream!" He said. "Nope. Now get up! We have got to get home!" I dragged him up and we went to breakfast. Mr. Manchester was sitting at the table absorbed in notes while Ray sat eating cereal and playing with the toy from the box. "Good morning Sharon, Clyde!" He greeted and for a second I had no idea what he was talking about. Oh right! I'm Sharon and henry is Clyde! "Good morning Ray!" I said and me and henry got ourselves some cereal although I didn't recognize any of the boxes. "So what are you doing today ray?" I asked. "I'm going to work with dad again." Perfect! "Cool can we come?" Henry asked. "Sure!" He said. "So mr. Manchester, are you still working on your molecular densitizor?" I asked casually. "No no. Now I have almost finished planning my next invention. A time machine!" His voice got low. Henry and I looked at each other and smiled. "The only thing is I can't figure out how someone would get back from where they went." Henry and I jumped up and said at the same time. "A REMOTE!" He smiled. "A remote! Perfect!" He said. "And we'll help you build it!" I said. "Really? Thanks! Let's go!" We all got in the car and drove to the lab. He unlocked the door and we went in. The molecular densitizor was still covered in a sheet. Glad to know it's still there. "Now I need to get some materials but you kids can hang out for a while." Mr. Manchester said and left. Perfect! "Now is our chance!" I whispered to henry who nodded. "Hey Ray can you show us a trick on your skateboard?" He asked. "But you guys said I shouldn't skateboard in the halls." He said. "Curse my common sense!" I whisper shouted to myself. "Well I don't think you'll get hurt in here! And we don't have time to go outside so you can just show us now!" I said and smiled. "Okay then here I go." He started skateboarding and I pulled the sheet off of the densitizor. Ray lost control as expected and went flying into the machine and pulled the lever. Beams of light hit him and we waited for a minute before shutting it off. "Are you okay?" I asked pretending to be concerned because I knew he was. "I feel great!" He said. "Okay let's try something." Henry said and picked up a pipe. He hit Ray over the head with it. "Did that hurt?" He asked Ray. "Well yeah you hit me in the head with a metal pipe! But it only hurt for a minute!" He said smiling. "It worked!" I said hugging henry. "Okay Ray I know this is going to sound crazy, but tonight there is going to be a man who breaks into city hall, and he will kidnap the mayor and try to take over Swellview." Henry said. "Way to sugar coat it!" I said to him. Rays face dropped. "What?! Someone has to stop him!" He nearly shouted but we shushed him. "Someone will stop him. You will." I said and he got even more scared. "What?! But I'm only nine! What can I do?!" He said. "You may be nine, but your indestructible now. And you are destined to be a hero. You are destined to save lives. And that starts here and now." Henry said. "A hero? I can't take that kind of pressure! What if I fail everyone?" He said and I put my Hanson his shoulder. "Look, I can't really explain why, but your going to have to trust me when I say that I've been in your shoes. And I know how scary it can be having all this pressure on you. And it seems like everyone expects something out of you. And your scared of letting people down and you want do the right thing and that can be a lot on a kid. And I will tell you now that feeling never goes away. All you can really do is do what you think is right and hope it's good enough. And if its not, well nobody's perfect and people will just have to get over it! The point is, you can do anything you put your mind to and don't let anyone get in your way. You can do it." I shook him and he smiled. Your right! I can do it! But not without a plan." Mr. Manchester came back in and we helped him build the time machine for the rest of the day until it was done. "Wow! We finished it! Now all we need to do is test it on an animal. But we won't have time to do it until tomorrow. Right now let's go have tacos!" The three of us looked at each other. "Actually were not hungry. We're just going to go to the park. Bye!" Henry said and we all ran out. I made sure to swipe his key when he wasn't looking so we could get back into the building later. His dad will find out about Ray after we rescue the mayor and me and henry get back to 2015. As we walked and it was getting dark and henry leaned over to me. "Don't you think it's dangerous that were using a machine that hasn't been tested yet? I mean I like my organs and id like them to stay inside me!" I shrugged. "I don't see any other option!" I said back. "So that's why we really broke up." He said. "What?" I said confused. "You weren't tired of all the drama you were scared!" I denied it. "I was not scared! I don't get scared!" He shook his head. "You are scared. I know that a pep talk like you gave Ray isn't just made up out if nowhere. You were scared that if you didn't focus and work hard you would let everyone down!" I shrugged it off. "Would you focus please?! We have bigger issues than my personal problems to deal with!" He shrugged and kept walking. I hate when he's right. I don't like the fact that I'm afraid of letting people down. Everyone does seem to expect something out of me and o keep goofing it up. Soon we got to a TV shop with the news on and the mayor had been captured. "Perfect! This is your chance!" Henry said and Ray nodded nervously. "So what am I supposed to do walk right up to the cops and say "hey I'm indestructible let me take down the bad guy!" He said sarcastically. Even as a little kid it was definitely Ray. "We have to find a way to sneak you in without anyone seeing. And no one can know who you are so you will need a costume." Henry said. "Where are we going to get that Sharon?" He asked. I thought then whispered to henry. "You got your gum?" He nodded and took out a gum ball. "Chew this and blow a bubble." Henry said handing Ray the gym. "But this going to help-" "just do it!" I said and he did and in a flash he looked just like mini kid danger. "Perfect!" I said. "Wow! How did I get this costume on?!" Ray said amazed. "No time to explain! Let's go!" Henry said and we all ran off. We got to the city hall where the mayor was being held and we hid behind a bush. "Okay the cops got this place blocked off pretty good, but if we sneak along this bush line we can get to that window and sneak in. He's being held in the room on the top floor so we can sneak in and catch him." I said thinking out loud. "How do you know this stuff?" Ray said and I shrugged. "Let's go! But first one thing Ray. We'll help you capture him, but afterwards don't mention us to anyone else. It's really important that you take all the credit. Promise?" He did. So we snuck through the window and got upstairs. We got into the room and his behind some furniture. The man was holding a knife to the mayor who was tied to a chair. "Your little pin prick of a town better pay up! Or they'll be holding another election sooner then they thought!" He laughed then punched the mayor knocking him unconscious. "Guys he's pretty big I don't know if I can do this." Ray said nervously. "Remember he can't hurt you. You can do it. Captain man." He smiled. "I like it." He stepped out. I looked at henry and we got into our costumes. "Hey guy! Let the mayor go! Or I'll have to take you to jail!" He said, his voice quivering slightly. "Oh yeah? How are you going to that pewee?! Maybe I'll get some extra cash for you." Ray got angry. "NO ONE CALLS ME PEWEE!" He yelled sand grabbed a curtain rod from the corner and smacked the guy across the face with it causing him to fall and drop the knife. Ray jumped on top of him. The guy grabbed the knife and cut day across the face which healed in seconds. That scared the guy but Ray just kept punching. "Good fighter for a kid." I said. Henry and I ran and untied the mayor. "Henry take him and make sure he gets outside but don't let anyone see you. I'll stay here and make sure Ray has got this." Henry nodded and dragged the mayor out. I continued to watch the fight. At one point the guy threw Ray across the room and Ray was looking exhausted. I decided to create a distraction. I jumped out. "Hey thug brain! I released your mayor!" He got angry. "You let my money go!" He fumed. I bought just enough time for Ray to grab a chair and smash it over the guys head breaking the chair and knocking the guy out. "I wasted a perfectly good piece of furniture of you!" Ray said. "You did it ray! I knew you could!" He smiled. "Now go get the cops! I'll watch him!" Ray nodded and left. The guy started to stir. "Well well well. Look who got taken out by a nine year old!" I said. "I'm gonna get him and you!" I laughed. "Ha! I don't think so! See I don't want you causing trouble around here ever again. And I don't want anyone finding out I exist. So unfortunately for you. I'm going to have to kill you. Buh bye!" I stood back and he jumped up. I started by freezing his feet. Then his legs. Slowly freezing him piece by piece. "Ahh! What are you?!" He screamed and I laughed. "That is the question isn't it?" Soon he was completely frozen. I walked over to him. "Goodnight!" I said then stepped back. I jumped and my foot spin around and smashed him. "One less scumbag on the streets. I met henry down stairs and we got out the window. We watched as reporters surrounded Ray and everyone called him a hero. "I think we're good to go. " I said and we ran back to the lab. We changed into the clothes we were wearing when we got here and went into the lab. We uncovered the time machine and henry set the date. "Okay it's set to the exact time we left." He said. "Great. We can go in a minute." I said. I wrote a note and taped it on the door. "Dear ray, you won't be seeing us again for a while, but it was time for us to go. Never forget that you can do anything you put your mind to. Your destined to do great things. See you soon! (Sooner than you think!) ;) love Sharon and Clyde.
P.S tell your dad to destroy that time machine. Time travel causes all kinds of trouble!" I taped it on the door. "Ready?" He asked. "Yeah but first, just in case we don't make it back. I want to say that you were right. Partly. We broke up because I was scared of being a disappointment and so I really wanted to focus and you were a distraction. Probably the best distraction of my life. But also, when you were hanging over that cliff I realized his scared of losing you I was. So I figured that by getting farther away from you if something happened and you... You know, it wouldn't hurt so bad." "Did it work?" He asked. "No. But you have a date with Bianca and I want you to go out with her because she can precise an more stable relationship and she can make you happy. Before I still wasn't okay with it but now I am. I want you to be happy. Your my best friend. And for a while. You were my only friend. I don't want to lose someone like that." He nodded. "Me either. So are we just going to drop the fighting?" I nodded. "Yeah. But in order of that we actually have to live through the next five minutes." He took the remote and handed it to me. "Do the honers?" I smiled and pressed the power button. The portal slowly opened.i took Henry's hand. "Let's go." We walked through it. I felt myself hit the floor. Henry and I jumped up and started making sure we had all our organs. We did. "We did it!" I said and hugged henry tight. We let go and I threw the remote hard on the ground and henry stomped on it. "No more time travel ever! It is so overrated!" I said and laughed. Ray, schwaz and Charlotte came Ina minute later. "Hey guys I had an idea! Let's fire up the time machine one more time before I take it to a dump!" Henry looked at each other and grabbed a bat. "NO!" We yelled a the same time and started smashing it unit little bits. "Okay! Just saying no vould have sufficed!" He said leaving. "I just realized something!" Ray said. "What?" "You two look just like these kids I knew when I was young! What a coincidence! I never really knew what happened to them though." I looked at Henry and smiled. "I think they're just fine." Ray left too. "Henry you have a date to!" I nearly yelled. "Oh right!" He said. "We'll get outta here!" He smiled and lent up the tube. "What happened so fast between you two?" Charlotte asked. "Not as fast as you think." I said to myself. I'm reminded of a tarot card I know of. Temperance. It means a state of peace and balance. If there were ever a time in my life where I was in a state of temperance, this was it. Unfortunately that may not last long.
