Chapter 34- The Beach

Winters pov
Henry picked me up midmorning the next day. I had put on my new swimsuit and threw in a bag, my towel (both things I bought as soon as Henry left yesterday) and some sunscreen, along with my phone and earbuds. I wasn't exactly sure what people did at the beach, but Henry thinks that's where I've been all this time so I have to fake it. I put on some jean shorts and a crop top over my swimsuit then some flip flops. Henry came down the elevator and saw me and smiled. "Hey." He pecked me on the cheek. "Hi. So are we ready to get our beach on?" I asked and he gave me a words look. "Okay first of all. Yes. Second. Nobody says 'get our beach on!'" He said making quote fingers and laughing. I punched him in the arm. "Shut up! Can we just go?" I said laughing too. "Yeah sure! 'Lets go get our beach on!' He said in a mocking voice and pushed him toward the tubes. "Just go goldy locks!" We stood under the tubes and they came down. "UP THE TUBE!" We said at the same time. We got outside and the light was blinding so I put my sunglasses on. The beach was only a couple blocks away so we walked. When we got there I saw tents and things set up and a stage with a DJ playing music. There was a the boardwalk with food stands and games. Further down the beach was the amusement park. But what I was focused on was this particular event that appeared to be set up and already under way. The people all around the stage and under the tents were people from school! People I knew! But they've never seen me in a bathing suit! No one had! I stopped walking. "What's the problem?" Henry asked. "What are all these people doing here? Is this a party or something?" I asked. "The Swellview Summer Teen Beach Party to be exact!" Henry said looking pleased with himself. "You didn't tell me it was a party with a bunch of people here." I said trying to sound cool. "You didn't ask. Plus I didn't think it would matter. It's fun! I promise!" He smiled at me and took my hand which made me feel already more comfortable. "I never said it was a problem! I was jut asking! Let's go!" I said. "'Get our beach on!'" He said still mimicking me. "Are you ever going to drop that?!" I said smacking his shoulder and laughing. "Nope! Come on!" He ran and dragged me towards the tent. Charlotte was the first one to come up to us, accompanied by Jasper. "Hey guys! Glad you could make it!" Charlotte said. She was wearing a cute blue two piece. "Hey winter! Welcome back!" Jasper said. "Thanks Jasper!" I said and Henry out his arm around my shoulder. "Wait. Are you guys back together?" Charlotte asked excitedly. "Yeah! We are!" I said and she got all excited. "That's great! You guys are awesome together!" Jasper said. Suddenly he and Charlotte ran up on stage and grabbed the microphone. "Hey everyone!" Charlotte yelled. "Winter is back from vacation! AND HER AND HENRY ARE BACK TOGETHER!" Everyone stopped and looked at us looking for confirmation. We nodded and everyone cheered. Charlotte started chanting. "Kiss! Kiss! Kiss! Kiss!" Soon everyone joined in the chanting. Henry and I looked at each other, shrugged, then he pulled me close and kissed me. Everyone cheered and clapped. When Henry let go he was grinning like an idiot. "Now let's do this party!" Henry called and everyone cheered and the music started and everyone was dancing. I took off my crop top and shorts and joined in. The more I danced and had fun the less I cared if people were watching me. I danced with Henry. People kept coming up and congratulating us. Piper even came up to us to see if it was true. Apparently she bought another library card off of a thirteen year old girl to get in. I saw Bianca and waved. She smiled and came over. "Hey Bianca!" I said and she smiled. "Hey winter! How was your vacation?" She asked. "It was great!" I said. "Congratulations on getting back together!" She said. "Thanks! You too!" I said. She was taking this really well maybe because she had already gotten another boyfriend. Caleb was a really nice guy and I think they will be happy together! "Yes! Congrats winter!" A sarcastic rude voice said from behind me. I turned around to see who had said that and Shawn walked up to me. He was a serious jerk. Rude to anyone who he thought was 'below' him. We had never talked though. He stayed out of my way and I stayed out of his. "What do you want Shawn?" I asked. "Just to congratulate this wonderful new but not so new couple! Tell me, how did you ever get Henry to take back such a desperate dramatic loser?" He said. People had started watching. "I don't know! I guess one of the major things going through my head was 'well at least he's not that fugly rude jerkoff Shawn! So that must an improvement!" I smiled and people oohed. "It must have been that Henry is also such a loser that no other girl would go out with him!" Again people oohed skating for a response. "Hey man why don't you go ruin someone else's day, or go club some baby seals while your at it?!" Henry said, his voice serious. He was pissed that this jerk was messing with me. "Back off hart! This is between me and winter here!" He said looking at me. "And what bug could have possibly crawled up your ass this time that requires me?" I asked and people cheered. "We might want to talk in private." He said. "Why? You afraid to say something wth everyone else around?" Henry said from behind me. I think if I weren't in the way he would have punched Shawn already. "No but this is for winters sake." He leaned in closer and said in a low voice in my ear. "It should I say, wintersmyth?" My eyes widened. "Henry stay here. I need to speak with Shawn alone." I said and he gave me a confused look. I nodes as if to say 'trust me I'll be fine.' He nodded and people cleared out of the way. We walked up the beach far away from the crowd and he sat down on a swing and motion for me to sit on the one next to him. I did. "What do you want Shawn?" I spit his name like venom. "Well I didn't put it together for a while. Until I noticed. Wintersmyth looked different for a while, better, perfect even. Same time as I noticed Henry on a date with a new girl. A fine girl. The amusement park blackout? I was there. Then I noticed that you weren't around either. Exact same time as people said the real wintersmyth was on vacation. And your name, 'Winter Smith' I connected the dots Wintersmyth." My face flushed. He figured me out. "That's all theory! You can't prove anything!" I said confidently. "True. But I wasn't planning on exposing you." I gave him a confused look. "Then what do you want?" I asked. "Nothing. But I know you. Your a villain whether you say so or not. You may have everyone else convinced your a good guy but not me. You were born evil. You kill people." "No I don't! You know people do change!" "But not you! YOU CAN NEVER CHANGE AND YIU KNOW THAT! Your going to skip up someday. And the minute you go dark side I'll be there to take care of you." Did he just threaten me? Does he want to play that game? "Well maybe I should just electrocute you right now and get rid of this problem all together!" I said my blood boiling. "You could, but you won't. Because then your just proving me right. That all you do is take life! You will never change! I'm just waiting for the other shoe to drop." With that, he stood up and walked away down the beach away from the party. I sat there for a few minutes. Stunned. Had that really just happened? Had he really just figured it out? I stood up and started walking towards the party. I decided not to tell Henry. At least not now. I don't want to worry him. Or piss him off even more. I got back. "What'd that douche bag want?" Henry said looking around for him. "He's not here. He left. And he just wanted to throw some insults my way, then he left." Henry looked a little skeptical but I smiled. "Now let's just forget about it and have some fun. For the rest of the day and into the night Henry and I danced and swam and hung out with our friends and played games and just had fun. As the sun was setting and cast colors across the water, Henry and I went alone to get some ice cream and walk along the boardwalk. We got our cones. He got vanilla and I got strawberry. We walked in silence until I stopped and sat on a bench and watched the sun get lower and lower. My mind was still a little preoccupied with what Shawn had said. What had he meant by he would 'take care of me?' "Winter?" I heard Henry's voice distantly. "Huh? What?" I asked snapping out of it. "I said what do you want to do tomorrow?" I leaned back. "I don't know. Whatever I guess." I mumbled. "Winter? Can I ask you something?" I nodded. "What did Shawn really say to you? The truth this time." I sat up and sighed. I would have to tell him eventually. "Okay but promise not to freak out." "I'm not promising anything." He said seriously. "Fine. He knows. About me. Being wintersmyth." Henry's eyes went wide. "He knows?! How did he figure it out?!" I shushed him. "I don't know. He's not an idiot. But he thinks I haven't really changed." "Why?! You've come so far from who you were!" I took his hand. "I know. And I'm not saying he's right. But he doesn't believe that. And he also ones maybe said that if I do anything bad he would 'fake care of me.'" That really sent Henry over the edge. He jumped up. "HE THREATENED YOU?! IF THAT JERK GOES ANYWHERE NEAR YOU ILL KILL HIM MYSELF!" I pulled him down. "Henry it's okay!" "No it's not!" I nodded. "It's not okay but it's not like he could actually hurt me. I'm trained to fight and I have my powers. He's just some snot nosed ass who talks trash." Henry nodded. "Plus you have me protecting you. If he comes within ten feet of you I'll rip him apart." I nodded and laughed. "I know you will." He put his arm around me. "I just don't know what I would do if something happened to you." I snuggled up to him and put my head on his shoulder. "Nothing bad will happen." I said reassuringly. "I love you." He said. "I love you too." He kissed me for a long time. Then we just watched the sunset fade out.
