Welcome back to another chapter of my second novel, "Lightspeed: Drug Detectives"! My name is Ariel Axilas, and I've been your protagonist for this riveting journey! .....And I only now just realized that I should've introduced myself first and the novel second! Whatever!

Last time we caught up.....guess what, guys? My best friend Erica Shields, the Paragon Herman, and myself all officially managed to make it to the Celestial Compound's campus! WOOOOO! Yeah, that's right! We out here right now! Woot woot! So, we just barely managed to escape a storehouse after Herman was forced to kill three random Celestial Syndicate grunts to save the lives of both Erica and myself, and after making a hasty escape through a high window, we landed in some bushes directly behind the building. (By the way, if the custodian of the Celestial Syndicate is listening to this, ummm.....you're about to become dead meat, pal. Or you probably already are; I just can't remember Intermission chapters).

After that, I told Erica and Herman that I had some "master plan" to take down the cartel, but it all got derailed after we saw another courier leaving the Celestial Compound with more bricks of the spiked cannabis.

I get that we're supposed to be rooting out this kind of activity at the source, but I'll be DAMNED—with a capital D—if I let that shipment reach whoever it's going to. I won't allow them to hurt more lives, either directly or indirectly.

So, it's time for me to chase that convoy down.....with Erica and Herman tagging along and making use of my super speed, of course.

Let's get moving! Ready, steady, GO!

***********************************************************************************************

You know.....as the speedy superheroine Lightspeed, you'd think I'd have grown accustomed to literally living life in the fast lane. And I'm not just saying that because of my power, you hear me? I'm saying that because usually, I'm pretty fucking busy.....even outside of this.

My heroics as Lightspeed, my tenure as an MIT student, my reputation as the star worker of my family's auto repair business.....you name it, I've done it. And I've rapidly switched between the roles very, very frequently.

But particularly, as the superheroine Lightspeed, I've seen my fair share of rough situations. Bank robbers wanting to fuck up hostages just so that they can get what they want. Internal corruption in higher social strata. Some otherworldly invasion force that overran Earth within a week and wiped out all sentient life on the planet using their twisted figurehead for about a year.

I'm not even exaggerating about that last part; go read the last four novels of Phase 3 if you don't believe me.

But the point that I'm trying to make.....is this. You see this? Me, my best friend Erica Shields, and the Paragon Herman all tailing this drug convoy sent out by the Celestial Syndicate?

It's literally nothing new to me. Like, actually. Just bad guys doing bad guy things who need to be stopped. Bad guys bad. Bad. It's why they have "bad" in their designation.

But I'm digressing.

The three of us are closing in on the back of the convoy now, with me being able to see the backs of the rear two ATVs and the pickup truck holding the spiked cannabis bricks. The two grunts manning the defense turrets at the roofs of the back two ATVs notice our advance, though, and begin urgently opening fire on us.....though, again, it's nothing my super speed can't handle.

As I weave to and fro in order to avoid the bullets, I call to my two teammates, who are still tightly clutching to me in order to take advantage of my super speed right alongside me; they'd be left in the dust otherwise.
