Under the glitzy lights of the award stage, Zerobaseone delivered a mesmerizing performance, pouring their hearts and souls into every move. As they wrapped up their final note, applause roared through the hall. The boys were all smiles, but suddenly, the second-youngest member, Gunwook, flinched and grabbed at his ear, his face contorted in pain. Before anyone could ask what was wrong, he sprinted off the stage.Yujin, the youngest was the first to notice. "Hyungs, did you notice that gunwook hyung looked in pain." Yujin asks turning towards older members, his voice filled with worry.
“I saw it too. He grabbed his ear and ran backstage… something is wrong.” Hao says, his eyes looking at the direction in which gunwook ran. Without a second thought, the rest of the members followed, exchanging anxious glances. They rushed backstage, where a commotion was already unfolding. A doctor, arranged by the company in case of emergencies, was examining Gunwook, who was seated on a small chair, gripping the armrest of the chair and wincing in pain as the doctor examined his ear.Hao reached his side immediately, kneeling beside him and grabbing his hand tightly. “Gunwook-ah, are you okay?” His voice trembled, and his own eyes grew misty as he watched his dongsaeng in pain.
Gunwook tried to give a reassuring smile, but it faltered as another wave of pain surged through him. “It… it shocked me. My ear feels like it’s burning.” He whispered, a tear slipping down his cheek. “How bad is it, doctor? He’s in so much pain…” Matthew asks the doctor, his voice laced with concern. The doctor examined Gunwook’s ear carefully before straightening up. “It looks like the shock didn’t cause major harm to his ear, but he needs to rest for at least two weeks. Wearing an in-ear piece could cause further irritation, so he should avoid it until he’s fully healed.” The doctor explained as he looked at other members. “Thank goodness it’s not too serious. I was so scared…” Hao whisper as he squeezed his hand lightly. “We’ll make sure he rests. Gunwook-ah, don’t worry about anything else right now. Just focus on recovering.” Hanbin, who was silent the whole time, spoke up finally.
The boys all exchanged a silent vow to support their members , no matter what. They were still processing the doctor’s words when their manager appeared, eyes wide with worry. “What happened? I saw you all rushed back here…” Manager asks, as he looks between gunwook and doctor. “Gunwook got shocked by his in-ear piece. The doctor said he needs to rest his ear for two weeks.” Gyuvin explained quickly.
The manager’s expression softened, and he reached out to pat Gunwook’s shoulder gently. “Don’t worry about any schedules for now. I’ll cancel what I can and reschedule the rest. You all deserve a break after your comeback promotions anyway. Take this time to rest and take care of each other.” He assured them, giving a gentle pat on gunwook's shoulder. “Thank you, manager-nim. We… we were really worried about him.” Hao said, feeling grateful for the holiday. “Thank you, everyone. I’m… I’m so lucky to have you all.” Gunwook said as he looked up, his eyes filled with relief and gratitude.Hao hugged him tightly, and the others joined in, creating a warm circle around their injured member. They all felt a profound sense of unity, grateful that no harm could sever the bond they had built through thick and thin.
