Gunwook woke up with a strange feeling in his gut. It wasn't the usual nerves before a busy day of rehearsals and performances, but something deeper, a nagging discomfort that settled low in his stomach. He blinked against the early morning light filtering through his curtains and pushed the feeling aside. Today was important-there was no room for distractions. As he got dressed, the dull ache in his stomach turned into a sharper pain, making him wince as he tugged on his practice clothes. He caught a glimpse of himself in the mirror-pale, with a sheen of sweat already forming on his forehead. But he was a professional. He'd danced through sore muscles, fatigue, and worse. This was just another obstacle to push through. "Gunwook, are you ready?" Gyuvin called out from the hallway."Yeah, just a second!" he replied, forcing energy into his voice.
He grabbed his bag and made his way out, joining the rest of the group in the living room. They were all chatting animatedly, full of morning excitement and the usual banter. Gunwook plastered a smile on his face, hoping no one would notice his discomfort. "Morning, Gunwook! You look like you barely slept." Jiwoong greeted clapping him on the back. "Just a bit tired. I'm fine though." Gunwook lied, rubbing his eyes. "Take it easy today hyung. We've got a long day ahead." Yujin advised, glancing at him with a knowing look. Gunwook nodded, trying to relax as they piled into the van. The drive to the studio felt longer than usual, each bump in the road sending a jolt of pain through his abdomen. By the time they arrived, Gunwook was sweating more from the effort of holding himself together than from the heat. "Okay, let's warm up!" the choreographer called out as they entered the practice room.
Gunwook threw himself into the routine, ignoring the growing discomfort. He could feel his energy draining faster than usual, each movement becoming harder to execute with precision. His vision blurred slightly as he spun, but he blinked it away, determined to keep up with the others."Gunwook, are you okay? You seem a bit off." Hanbin asked during a break, handing him a water bottle. "I'm fine, hyung. I just need to wake up a bit more." Gunwook insisted, taking a small sip. The water hit his stomach like a stone, making him grimace. "Maybe you should sit out for a bit." Hanbin suggested, concern etched on his face. "No, really. I'm good, hyung." Gunwook said firmly, turning away before the conversation could go any further.
The next few hours passed in a haze of pain and determination. Gunwook lost himself in the music, focusing on each beat, each move, willing his body to cooperate. But as they moved into the full-group choreography, the pain became impossible to ignore. It twisted in his stomach, sharp and relentless, making his breath hitch with every step. Finally, as they reached the climax of the routine, Gunwook's body gave out. His vision darkened around the edges, and he stumbled, crashing to the floor. The music cut off abruptly as the members rushed to his side. "GUNWOOK!!! WHAT HAPPENED?!" screamed Matthew panic in his voice. "I'm fine." Gunwook gasped, trying to sit up. His stomach churned violently, and he doubled over, clutching his abdomen."You're not fine gunwook. You are burning up!" Taerae said, kneeling beside him and putting a hand on his forehead. "We need to get him home." Hanbin said, already pulling out his phone to call their manager. "I'm okay. Just give me a minute." Gunwook mumbled, though he couldn't even stand. "No way. We're taking you home." Ricky said firmly.
The ride back to the dorm was a blur for Gunwook. He was only vaguely aware of the worried voices around him, the cool touch of someone's hand on his forehead, and the gentle murmur of reassurances he was too out of it to fully comprehend.
By the time they reached the dorm, Gunwook was barely conscious, the pain in his stomach overwhelming all his senses. He felt himself being half-carried, half-dragged into the building and onto his bed, the familiar scent of his pillow providing a small comfort. "Someone call a doctor," Gyuvin said, his voice tight with worry. "I'm on it." Hanbin replied, already dialing the number."Gunwook, can you hear me? You're going to be okay to be okay baby." Zhang hao asked, sitting on the edge of the bed and gently brushing Gunwook's sweat-drenched hair out of his face.
Gunwook managed a weak nod, squeezing his eyes shut against the nausea rolling through him.
