When Taehyung finally got home that evening, Jungkook was waiting for him in the lounge. At the sight of Taehyung's tense expression, a flicker of worry crossed Jungkook's face.

Taehyung approached him, taking a steadying breath. "Jungkook, we need to talk."

Jungkook straightened, his gaze filled with unspoken questions, but he stayed silent.

"This morning," Taehyung began gently, "your adoptive father, Mr. Yoo... he showed up at my office. He was looking for you."

Jungkook's eyes widened, a flash of terror overtaking his expression. He didn't speak, but his hands trembled as he clutched the edge of the sofa.

"He didn't get any information from me," Taehyung reassured him quickly, noticing Jungkook's fearful reaction. He gave Jungkook's shoulder a gentle squeeze, hoping to offer some comfort.

"Are... are you okay?" Jungkook finally asked, his voice low, barely above a whisper.

Taehyung nodded, offering a small smile. "I'm fine," he replied. "But he's determined, Jungkook. He seems set on finding you. As long as you're with me, though, he won't be able to get to you."

Jungkook's gaze drifted to the floor, silent and visibly shaken. Taehyung noticed how Jungkook's shoulders stayed tense, his breathing shallow and anxious.

"Listen," Taehyung continued, trying to sound as reassuring as possible, "as long as you trust me, I'll keep you safe. We'll figure this out."

Jungkook gave a slight nod, still visibly unsettled but reassured by Taehyung's words. Though he didn't say much, his presence seemed to relax as he sat close by, trusting Taehyung's quiet promise. They stayed there in the stillness, a sense of comfort slowly building between them, each finding a sense of peace in the other's quiet strength.

Later that evening, as the sky outside dimmed to a twilight blue, Taehyung and Jungkook sat across from each other at the small dining table. They ate mostly in silence, but there was a shared understanding in the quiet between them. Taehyung could tell Jungkook's mind was elsewhere - his eyes often distant as he absentmindedly stirred his food.

After dinner, Taehyung suggested they watch something lighthearted on the television to try and ease the tension from the day. They settled on a lighthearted comedy series, the kind that required little mental investment, hoping it might give Jungkook some sense of relief.

As they sat together, Taehyung noticed Jungkook's eyes slowly soften, and eventually, the younger man even managed a small smile. There was a visible easing in his expression, as if he was finally allowing himself a moment of escape.

After an episode or two, Taehyung glanced over and asked softly, "Do you... feel a little better?"

The younger male nodded, his gaze shifting briefly to meet Taehyung's. "Yeah," he whispered, voice a bit hoarse, as if he was unused to talking about his feelings. "It's... weird feeling this... normal."

A warm sense of relief washed over Taehyung. Seeing Jungkook's defences start to come down, even just a little, made him realise how much he wanted to help this young man find peace.

"You're safe here," Taehyung said gently.

Jungkook's expression softened at those words. He gave a small nod, his eyes glistening just slightly with unspoken gratitude. And as the evening wore on, the tension in the room slowly gave way to a calm, comforting quiet, both men lost in the simple contentment of feeling understood.

As they sat together watching television, Taehyung found himself lost in thought, the flickering screen becoming just a backdrop to his swirling emotions. The laughter from the series echoed in the room, but his mind was preoccupied with the unnerving encounter he had had with Mr. Yoo earlier that day.
