As soon as Taehyung had arrived at his office on Friday that same week, he knew he was going to see a particular boy. A boy who needed his help.
He couldn't sleep much the day before. Taehyung tried sleeping early as his body needed it, but his thoughts were filled with Jeon Jungkook ever since their meeting in the rain as his thoughts wouldn't let him think of anything else than that event. He needed answers, but he knew Jungkook wouldn't give it to him that easily.
Taehyung jumped in his seat when he heard someone knocking. "Jungkook?!" he literally yelled as he quickly ran towards the door and opened it.
On the other side, Ms Song stared at him speechless with her mouth slightly hanging. "Uh, he'll arrive at any minute Dr Kim," she said with a sweet smile, making Taehyung blush at his stupid excitement. "I came to tell you that your last patient for today, Ms Lee, has been cancelled. She's laying with high fever in bed, so her parents didn't want her to get up until she'd start to feel well again," Ms Song explained.
Taehyung nodded, bowed thankfully, and went back to his seat. He noted down that their meeting had been cancelled, and right after he finished, it knocked on the door again. "Come in," Taehyung called and the door opened.
This time, it was as expected. Jeon Jungkook came in the office in Mr Yoo's grip, again. "Jungkook, Mr Yoo, hello," Taehyung's gaze quickly went from Jungkook to his foster father. "You're coming without your wife again? Thought it was a one-time thing?" he asked with a fake smile. This was too suspicious.
Mr Yoo smiled. "She's at home. She's making food, so she decided to be at home instead of following Jungkook here and just let me go instead," he explained. Taehyung didn't question him any further; however, his suspicions didn't faint one bit.
He bowed him goodbye and he sat down in his chair as he saw Jungkook was already in his usual seat. "Good morning Jungkook," Taehyung greeted. He didn't expect much of a response, but the black-haired boy actually glanced up at him and their eyes met for a second, and then he lowered his gaze again. "I see you're beginning to get used to me. I hope you feel comfortable around me. And if there's something wrong, don't be afraid to tell me, all right?" Jungkook actually responded to him now. He nodded.
Taehyung grinned. "I'm glad you're responding now. Do you feel like talking about something specific? Like, about your past?" No respond. "Now?"
Taehyung tried to witness a reaction from the younger boy.
"What about your foster parents?" Jungkook seemed to have flinched again. That's it, Taehyung thought, something is definitely going on. "Jungkook," Taehyung started in a serious tone, making the younger look up at him. "I need you to tell me if your foster parents are doing anything to you." Jungkook bit his lip and looked to be considering answering, but he remained silent. "I'm doing this to help you. All I want to do is to help you. Do you know what they're planning now? They're planning to send you to a mental hospital. You get what I mean, don't you? Do you feel you'd belong there?" Taehyung paused to see if he'd do anything. "I don't want them to send you there. Please, help me in return so I can help you as well."
Taehyung noticed Jungkook's hands were shaking. He decided to stand up, catching the boy's attention as he followed him with his eyes, and he stood right in front of the dark-haired young boy. The psychologist grabbed his hands softly to give them warmth and stop the shaking and he leaned in so they faces were really close. "I only want to help you Jungkook. That's all I want. I'm nor your enemy. I'm your friend, a shoulder you can lean on. A teddy bear you can tell whatever secrets you don't want to tell anyone else."
Taehyung hoped to have touched Jungkook's heart. He knew the boy was unsure if he could trust Taehyung, but he wanted to make sure he could trust him.
Jungkook opened his mouth and Taehyung concentrated hard in case he wouldn't hear and made sure to know what Jungkook's first words in all these years would be and how he could analyse it. "I'm...scared."
It was weird. Somehow, Jungkook's voice had sent shivers down Taehyung's spine. And the words hit him right in the heart. He's scared. Of course he's scared. He should be scared. How couldn't he be?
"Jungkook," Taehyung said seriously, looking him deeply in the eyes. "Is it because of your foster parents? Do they do something to you?"
Jungkook didn't stare anywhere expect from Taehyung's eyes. He saw the despair in his eyes. He saw his sadness. He saw his fear; his agony. Jungkook's eyes started dripping. Tears filled both of them and Taehyung almost started crying himself. Almost. But he had to remain professional and support his patient, not to cry with him.
Taehyung still held Jungkook's hands and he made him stand up and brought him with him towards the sofa on the other side of the room. He made Jungkook sit down beside him and held around him comfortably.
The action made Jungkook cry harder. He leaned on Taehyung's shoulder whilst sobbing and all Taehyung could do was to stroke and clap him softly on the back and whispering comforting words.
The session was over in just a few minutes and Taehyung was aware of that. He thought that once Jungkook could cry with him, he would open up, even if it's the slightest. "You okay?" Taehyung whispered softly as he dried Jungkook's wet cheeks and eyes with his thumbs. "I'm always here for you to talk to, or even just cry on. I'm always here Jungkook. Remember that, okay?" Jungkook nodded whilst standing up and so did Taehyung. He wrapped his arms around his fragile body and squeezed him softly in a hug. "I'll see you soon."
As Taehyung followed Jungkook to the door whilst holding his hand to let him know he was protecting him, he turned around towards the older before opening the door. "Thank you."
