Saturday was over by the speed of light. Taehyung hadn't had fun in such a long time. He had nearly forgotten what it felt like. He missed spending time with his friends and he promised them he was going to go out more often with them. Luckily, they also soon forgot about the surprise meeting with Mr and Mrs Yoo and their foster son, but luckily his friends didn't know the details and dropped it as if it never happened. That's what he liked about his friends; they were very understanding and usually always did what Taehyung asked for.
The next day on Sunday, Jimin had called Taehyung to ask if he was okay and how he felt about their group meeting. Taehyung was honest and told him he missed meeting his friends and enjoyed it very much. It pleased Jimin, and they ended up talking for hours as they always did when they first started talking about something, and luckily Jimin hadn't asked Taehyung about the last time they talked over the phone.
Sunday night Taehyung prepared for work the next day as he sighed. Mondays were always the worst; it was so many patients and paper works, plus on Mondays, he had to prepare for the week. Taehyung hated Mondays.
"Dr Kim?" the same voice that had been talking for a long time called him.
Taehyung moved his gaze onto the voice's owner and spotted Ms Song. "Yes?"
"Weren't you listening?" she asked cutely, as always. Taehyung knew that she's admiring him, and possibly fancied him, but he had no interest in her - nor any girls at all, but that's not something she knew or other people. Only Taehyung's friends knew, and all of them, except Hoseok, was literally a couple. "I need you to sign this to release this patient. You'll stop seeing this patient as she's going back to live with her parents," she continued as she pointed at the unfinished paper in front of him at his desk.
"Ah, yes, sorry," he apologised for getting lost in his thoughts and quickly signed the paper after quickly confirming with his eyes it was the release of his one patient (or now former-patient). Ms Song gave him one last smile and bow before walking back to her own desk at the end of the room to continue her work.
Ms Song was, as you could call it, Taehyung's assistant. She did work for him, although he had a lot of work he also did. She also had her own desk in his office where he talks, but of course, she's not there when he's actually in a session with his patients; her schedule was perfectly fitted with Taehyung's, and whenever he had patients, she had work outside the office. If she finished earlier than expected, she's allowed to have a break.
"Good work today Dr Kim," Ms Song bowed as he got up and put away his papers to leave for today.
Taehyung put on his jacket and remembered to bring his bag with the work he had to bring home to finish up by tonight. "You too, Ms Song," he replied back as usual when they said goodbye to each other.
When Taehyung got to his car to drive home, he noticed it was raining outside. Before he walked over to the parking lot, he brought up the umbrella he usually always had in his bag and opened it. The umbrella was light coloured pink with lots of different kinds of flowers of it and at the bottom of it on the hook read a name.
Taehyung sat in his car and drove off. Since it was pouring, it was hard to look outside whilst driving. As a light went red, Taehyung glanced at the people with umbrellas and people with hoodies. However, one person caught his attention as he had neither. Taehyung leaned closer towards the opposite seat towards the window to see clearer, and he wasn't mistaken: it was Jeon Jungkook.
Taehyung stopped right in his tracks before grabbing the umbrella and running out to the boy.
Could he do this? He was usually confident about what was allowed and not in public when it came to his job, but this time he had to think. He couldn't approach Jungkook as someone he knew, but what if he was a complete stranger? It's normal for a person to see someone outside without an umbrella and a jacket, soaking wet, and feeling pity for the person and want to give them their umbrella. There's no crime in that. With one last nod to himself, he did as he intended to do and ran up to the drained boy.
The psychologist grabbed the younger's shoulder and forcefully turned him around. "How come you're soaking wet?" What the hell was that? Isn't that obvious enough? It's literally pouring, he thought sarcastically to himself as his stupid remark.
Taehyung slightly blushed at his stupid question and stepped closer to Jungkook so he'd also be under Taehyung's umbrella. "Why don't you have an umbrella? Or at least a jacket?"
As suspected, Jungkook still didn't say anything. His gaze had gone from surprised with wide eyes to depressing and looking downwards. It looked as if he was staring at Taehyung's hand on the umbrella hook. Even though the water from the sky had stopped hitting Jungkook's face, there was still water below his cheeks. The longer Taehyung stared, the sooner he realised Jungkook was crying. When he tried to study his face further, he spotted a red mark below his lip that looked to be forming a bruise. Had he been in a fight?
"Jungkook," Taehyung whispered his name, "I can't approach you first unless as a stranger, so I can't do much right now, but please take this umbrella, okay? And go home."
Taehyung grabbed Jungkook's hand and made him hold the umbrella, and when Taehyung let go to test him, the umbrella was still in the air. Taehyung smiled lightly in satisfaction, and he took a step backward back into the rain whilst still facing Jungkook, who was now watching him carefully, but curiously.
"Don't forget to come on Friday," he said as he waved him off, and Jungkook turned around to start walking. "Boy!" Taehyung yelled after him as he forgot to say one last thing. Jungkook turned around and glanced slightly over his shoulder, just peeking under the umbrella. "Get home safety. Don't get in trouble."
Without replying, Jungkook walked off again when Taehyung started waving one last time. He sighed one last time before sitting back in his car and drove home. As he locked himself inside, his thoughts went back to Jungkook, preventing him from finishing up his late paperwork.
What was he doing out in the rain? Why was he alone? Why was he hurt? Why was he crying?
The more the brown-haired boy thought of it, the more it drove him crazy. He ruffled his own hair in frustration as he slammed his hands on the table on his papers.
"This won't do," he mumbled to himself as he got up. "I'll go sleep. Yeah, sleep is good. It'll make my brain switch off for a couple of hours. I'll work better tomorrow," he thought out loud as he was getting into his pyjamas and brushed his teeth afterward. "Goodnight Kim Taehyung."
