Sandra's POV
In my office, I paced back and forth, my heels echoing across the sleek, polished floor. For five months, I and Dria had shared everything, from stolen glances across crowded rooms to passionate, quiet moments late at night. The connection was undeniable, the companionship fulfilling—but here we were, orbiting each other without a label. My friends, and even my secretary Rachel, had nudged me toward clarity, and I could no longer deny it: I wanted to make it official with Dria.
But, naturally, I couldn't just ask Dria to be her girlfriend with a simple question. No,I needed a grand gesture—something unforgettable. Besides, Dria deserved that. In my mind, I replayed a dozen scenarios, each one more elaborate than the last, until I settled on a plan that felt right. I would propose a formal relationship with Dria in front of her family, with all the grandeur it deserved.
The first part of my plan? Meet Dria's parents and ask for their blessing.
I knew I was capable in almost any professional setting, but even I had my insecurities. Meeting Dria's family was not something I took lightly; I hadn't exactly left a flawless first impression in our previous encounters. In fact, our initial interactions had involved my usual, brusque attitude—my 'business mode,' as Rachel called it—which hadn't exactly screamed "I'm the one for your daughter." But I knew I had to do this, and i was ready to step outside my comfort zone.
After my fourth failed attempt to type a coherent email to Rachel regarding a minor scheduling change, I threw my hands up and decided it was time to focus. I was going to needmy secretary's help with organizing this, after all.
Arriving at Dria's parents' house was nerve-wracking. I could feel my palms sweating, and I mentally cursed myself for wearing my suede heels, which were already pinching my feet. Why had I thought looking perfect was worth the discomfort? I fumbled for a deep breath and steadied myself before knocking. Dria's mother, Alice Eduardo with a warm smile, opened the door, greeting me with genuine enthusiasm that somehow only made me more nervous.
As I made my way inside, I felt the weight of my own expectations bearing down. I prepared a small speech, a heartfelt yet structured appeal about my intentions. But just asI began, my words twisted into an embarrassing stammer.
"Uh, so, um, Mrs.—I mean, Dria's mom—uh, I'm here because... well, it's just that... I have been, uh, very close to Dria, you see..."
Dria's parents listened patiently, maybe even with a hint of amusement, as I finally managed to gather myself and explain why I was there.
"I would like...no, I am absolutely committed to making things official with Dria. And I wanted to, well, do it the right way. I'd be honored to have your support and blessing."
For a second, the room went silent. I braced myself, hoping they understood what I was trying to say. Then, Dria's parents exchanged a glance and broke into warm smiles.
"Of course, Sandra," her mother replied, her eyes shining with approval. "We've seen how much you care for her. You have our blessing, and anything you need, we're here to help."
My heart soared with relief. I wasn't expecting to feel so overwhelmingly grateful. They didn't just accept me, they were actually excited about helping me with my plan to propose! After a few more pleasantries, I was on my way, grinning to myself as I pictured how beautifully everything was shaping up.
The following days were a whirlwind of meticulous planning. I enlisted Rachel's help, barely containing my giddiness as I mapped out each part of the evening I was planning for Dria.
"Alright, Rachel, so I want the flowers ready in her favorite colors, and the rooftop needs to be decorated. I'm talking sunset lighting, fairy lights—no, scratch that, fairy lights are too simple...something more sophisticated."
