Lia's POV
Habang naglalakad kami ni Sandra sa gitna ng ballroom, hindi maiiwasang huminto kami bawat ilang hakbang. Ang mga guest ay patuloy na bumabati kay Sandra, congratulating her on how stunning the venue looked.
"Sandra, the place looks absolutely breathtaking! You've outdone yourself this year," isang CEO ang nagsalita habang iniabot ang kamay kay Sandra.
Sandra, with her usual grace, smiled and gently shook his hand. "Thank you, but I can't take all the credit. Lia and her team are the real stars behind this success. They've worked tirelessly to make tonight perfect."
My heart swelled with pride every time Sandra acknowledged me in front of the guests. I could feel their curious eyes shift towards me, suddenly interested in the woman behind the ball's magic. Ngunit habang patuloy kaming nakikipagpalitan ng pleasantries sa mga bisita, may isang bagay na hindi ko kayang itanggi—the growing tension between Sandra and me.
Every time she gave me credit, she would glance at me in a way that only I could understand. Her eyes would soften, filled with something deeper than just professional respect. And when no one was looking, her fingers would brush against mine, sending sparks through my entire body. It was subtle—delicate—but enough to make my heart race.
We continued walking, and I felt the magnetic pull between us, as if gravity itself was conspiring to keep us close. I couldn't help but admire how stunning she looked in that skin-tight gown, the way it perfectly highlighted her figure. Every movement she made was calculated, graceful, yet dripping with sensuality.
"You look... incredible tonight," Sandra whispered softly as we paused again, her voice low enough that only I could hear. Her breath tickled my ear, and I had to fight the urge to shiver at the sensation.
I glanced at her with a small, teasing smile. "You're not too bad yourself," I whispered back, my voice equally soft but filled with the same tension that hung between us like a thread about to snap.
Every time someone greeted us, I would feel her hand brush against mine, lingering for just a second longer than necessary. And in those moments when we thought no one was watching, we would steal glances, our eyes communicating what our words couldn't. It was maddening, the way we had to hold back, knowing that the entire ballroom was watching us. The tension between us was palpable, but we couldn't afford to slip—not here, not now.
One guest, an elegant woman in her mid-40s, approached us with a smile. "Sandra, the ball is exquisite as always. You never fail to impress."
Sandra smiled warmly at the compliment. "Thank you, but again, Lia's team deserves all the praise. I'm just the face of it," she said, giving me a sideways glance, her smile deepening slightly as if sharing a private joke with me.
Her words might have sounded professional, but I knew there was a hidden meaning behind them—the way she always made me feel like I was more than just a secretary, more than just someone working behind the scenes.
The woman turned to me. "You must be Lia. I've heard wonderful things about your work. Truly, this ball is the talk of the city."
I smiled politely, giving a small nod. "Thank you, ma'am. It's been a team effort, but I'm glad to hear that everyone's enjoying it."
As the woman walked away, Sandra subtly moved closer to me, her hand lightly grazing the small of my back, making sure no one else could see. The brief touch sent a wave of warmth through me, and I had to remind myself to keep breathing, to keep my composure.
I could feel her eyes on me again, and when I dared to meet her gaze, there was no denying the fire in her eyes. It was impossible to ignore the hunger between us, the way we both wanted more than just these stolen moments. The world might have been watching, but it felt like it was just the two of us—locked in a dance of restraint, each touch and glance filled with unspoken promises.
