Chapter 12 A Little History of Village Life

One Week Later, Village Life As It Should Be?

Life in the small village was back to normalas normal as a hidden village could beMorgana and Patience, doing rounds to help people in their village. People working the fields, mothers caring for the young, and slightly older children playing in the streets, when not in school.

All children of the village over the age of five would be at the four room school houseboys in one roomgirls the other, from five years of age till ten. Then they move up to the next set of rooms, where they stay till they are eighteen years of age–this is how the school system has been run in the village for the last one hundred years or so.

Their books are updated on a regular bases by the village scribesA group of devoted men and women who's job it is to record all important event that happen in the villagesuch as what happened not just one week ago. All in the village were informed what had to be done up at Alter Mountaintheir sacred siteafter the fact. It saddened so many in the small village, but was accepted in the end. Here, unlike most places, they value life above all else, the taking of even one single life effects the whole of the village, not just the single individual responsible for the deed. The whole village rallied around both Morgana and Patience in the week after the death of the man that had to be taken that eventful night.

Now one week later, Morgana and Patience, are hard at work studying the ancient booksMorgana first has to teach Patience the ancient script of their ancestors–reading up on the Dark One of old–Skylartar, the worst evil ever to walk the face of the green planet–Morgana having the feeling that Patience was delivered to her by one of the Greats to serve her as a means to detect such evil in this day and age. Hence their studies; days and days of intense work learning the old ways, and all about their village's one nemesis. Just saying the name of the Dark One gives reason the shuddered to the core. It is what they prepare for every year with their shielding spells, to keep her at bay, and securely sealed up where she is hidden away. Also to hide their little village from outsiders. This is what they are trying to learn more about.

Morgana has learned one thing, and that is that Patience is a very quick study. She inhales the material set before her just as quick as if it was her A B C's. Well, that is for anything dealing with the dark arts, and dealing with the stones, not so much with herbal magics. Healing she is slowly improving, and her inner powers of the shaman healer have strengthen quite a bit as well–due in part to Morgana feeding her some of her own power to boost up her natural energies–the same way Edwena had all those many years ago when she was a mere child.

Now Patience has elevated herself to the level of a beginner healer, a relatively advanced position considering her short term working with Morgana. Still quite impressive. The two, now when they head out to check on the people of the village, Morgana takes the lead by doing the initial checks, then allows Patience to test for herself. They concur on their finding before deciding on a course of action–Patience usually administering the cure with a slight assistance from Morgana–though Patience is unaware of this. Again this was how Morgana was taught all those long years ago.

Their call rate has dropped considerably since that night up on the mountain, and they can only attribute it to the evil that had been lurking in their small village, now taken away. Even the people have returned to their natural, easy going ways–with no further bickering. Calm has washed back over the whole of the village, all is well again. The only family that had been locked away, has been granted a stay, and released back to their farm, even they seem to be a more loving family–the boy has not been causing a bit of trouble in the school; something he was always doing for attention.
