Chapter 13 Ominous Clouds, What the Heck?
What a way to start a day. First they can't get out their front door–the door to the shaman house due to a large puddle–no huge puddle–blocking their way. Then they all decide to exit thru the rear door; sounded like a plan. Skirting the garden was a walkway that brought them to the front of the house to the cobblestone road. Well, it should be out there somewhere, but with whatever has come over their quaint, quiet little village throughout the evening, it seems to have washed away every evidence, or should I say, covered over everything in sight.
Stumbling through the muck and debris, they find that their fair village is covered with the fertile rich soil from most of the closest farm lands to the roads. That Morgana can recollect, this has never happen to her village ever before in their entire history of their existence.
Removing their boots they both head next door to the Tribal Leader's house to check in with Marissa to see how she is faring before heading out. They decide to use her water out front to rinse the mud off their fur boots and feet before it dries–Impossible to get out of fur once that happens–they knock once, twice, wait the third time is the charm as the door to the house opens. “Marissa,” Morgana calls out. They bow to each other then enter the dwelling.
“Morgana, what brings ya here this horrible morn?” Marissa asks.
“We were checking the roads and the fields has leaked down to them. Has ya noticed?” Morgana threw out looking around noticing all the ceramic pots, crockery, pans lying on the floor, on furniture and in other strategic places. “What happened to ya home Marissa?”
“Ya noticed, I been emptying them all night. Ma roof is leaking, bad. Look up...” Marissa pointed to the ceiling of her living room it was covered in brownish red rings forming stains from where the water from the overnight storm leaked into her house. “I never be having water like this. Ya know how long I live here, that a new roof up yonder.” Marissa shook her head side to side holding back tears as long as she could, then the damn broke and she plopped down in her chair, cover her eyes letting the tearful wetness flow down her cheeks wetting her hands and dripping into her lap. It took her several minutes to recover her composure before she was able to talk once again.
“Would ya go check the others for me? Maybe Nadine can help ya. I not see a light in her window ta day.” Marissa waved her hand in the direction of Nadine's house. The whole time Morgana was talking to Marissa, Patience had been scurrying about emptying all the different containers set out that were catching all the drips from the ceiling above. She was being her normal helpful self. Patience was just being Patience. Emptying them into a large container then carrying it outside to the garden, watering each and every plant with the water so as not to waste any of the precious water.
When they left the Tribal Leaders house they traipse on over to visit with Nadine the Elder. A beautiful woman of her eighties who looked not a day over forty-five, if it wasn't for the waist length satiny strands of silvery gray hair. Knocking upon Nadine's door their usual routine over with they enter to talk. “Nadine, so sorry to bother ya,” Morgana bowed her head then began once again. “How did ya fair last eve?”
“Fine, fine.” She looked around her living room before speaking again. “Why is there something wrong dear girl?” Nadine rose up from her chair by the warming fire that was going, colors of red and amber flickering off the pail whitewashed of the walls, she walked over to the side window to look out and gasped. Hand over her mouth she spoke again. “But how? Ya did this?” Nadine was shocked beyond belief.
