Avi and Ananya settled into their seats as the plane took off. Ananya wrapped herself in the provided blanket, already preparing to drift off to sleep like she usually did. Just as she was getting comfortable, Avi’s voice cut through the quiet, calling her name.
Ananya?
Ananya turned with a slight frown, her eyes questioning as they met Avi's. He let out a sigh, his expression shifting to something more serious, and began to speak.
Nee enaku onnu seiyanum, its not official so as a help'ah..?
( I need your help for something, it's not an official task so..?)
Ananya's eyebrows drew closer before she asked,
Sollunga
( What is it?)
Enaku un oorla, school aprom hospital'la yenenna facilities improve panna mudhiyumo adhodhae list venum.
( I need a list of the facilities that can be improved in your village school and hospital.)
Ananya blinked, confusion clouding her eyes. Avi shifted uncomfortably, scratching his eyebrow before he revealed,
I want to do something for them, ana adhae yepdhi avanga kitta kekuradhunu therla, so help panriya?
( I want to do something for them, but I didn't know how to ask them, so can you help me?)
Ananya simply stared at him in disbelief, her lips parted in surprise. Avi blinked, lifting an eyebrow with a questioning look. She let out a small scoff, shaking her head as she responded,
Illa, usually enaku oruthavanga veetuku poi avangala pudhicha, gift'uh or souvenir vangi kupuden. Ana neenga?
( Usually when I go to someone's house and like it there,I'll go as far as buying them a gift or a souvenir, but you?)
Avi's face fell into a deadpan expression as the realization hit him—she was mocking him. Ananya's laughter bubbled up, and she nodded, barely holding back more giggles.
Na nalliki kula ketutu anupuren
( I'll send it by tomorrow)
However, Avi waved his hand dismissively,
Avlo avarasam'la illa, veetuku poi rest pannitu porumaiya've anupalam
( No need to rush, you can send me patiently after resting well)
Ananya nodded humming to him.
Avi settled back into his seat, his gaze shifting to the view outside as he rested his head against the headrest with a deep sigh. The clouds outside were soft and endless, and the quiet hum of the plane was soothing. He was oblivious to the set of eyes that kept glancing at him, capturing every detail of his pensive expression. Ananya found herself lost in thought, trying to understand why even the smallest of his movements now seemed significant.
It felt strange and unsettling, this sudden pull she felt toward him, like a hidden chord that had been there all along but was only now vibrating to life. Each of his gestures, from the way he tapped his fingers to the way he quietly sighed, made her heart flutter in an unfamiliar way. Avi appeared different, as though a veil had lifted, revealing a new side of him that she hadn’t noticed before. Yet, at the same time, he was still the Avi she had always known, the one who teased her and stood by her. It both excited and confused her.
