You, you, you!
403 glared at the photograph of Avi hanging in his office, jabbing an accusatory finger at the smug-looking man in the frame, as if the static image was personally responsible for his misery,
First'uh you, ippo un sister, mathi mathi mathi en nimmadhiye kedhukuradhulayeeeee, irukinga!
( First you, now your sister, you're both soooooooooo invested in spoiling my peace!)
He accused outrageously, taking a dramatic sip from the bottle in his hand. After a brief pause to burp—because even fury needs a moment—he resumed his tirade with renewed anger.
Kudumbame ipdhi dhana ya?
( Are you and your entire family the same?)
He demanded, his voice echoing with all the pent-up anger and frustration inside him. Puffing out his chest in a feeble attempt to look intimidating, he leaned closer, fixing a menacing glare on Avi's straight-faced photograph as if expecting it to flinch.
Yennaya moraikirae? Moraicha bayandhuruvoma?
( How dare you glare at me? Do you think it'll scare me?!)
Avan moraikilae!
( He's not glaring!)
Shakthi turned around, his movements unsteady under the weight of the bottle dangling from his hand. There sat Ananya, perched on the table with her own bottle in tow. She swayed slightly, her giggles spilling out like a melody gone rogue, before she replied with a mischievous grin.

Andha ginger eaten monkey'ku moonje apdhidhan!
( That's that ginger eaten monkey's face!)
They both burst into a messy fit of laughter, the kind that made no sense but felt utterly contagious. Shakthi even dropped himself onto the floor, clutching his stomach as if laughter itself had knocked him over.
Avi stood leaning against the doorframe, his face frozen in a mix of horror and disbelief as he watched the scene unfold. He hadn’t raced down the road like a madman, skipped parking, and dragged his men here just to witness this—two tipsy species mocking him.
He glanced at his men, who avoided eye contact like their lives depended on it, clearly unsure how to navigate this. Clearing his throat loudly enough to wake a sleeping bear, Avi hoped to restore some order. But Ananya and Shakthi, far too engrossed in their fit of giggles over his “ginger-eaten monkey face” in the photo, barely registered his presence.
Shakthi’s laughter slowed just enough for him to droopily open his eyes. For a brief moment, he stared at Avi and blinked,
Enga inga parungalen, en kannuku avar nikira maariye theriyudhu
( Hey look, I think I can see him in front of me)
Ananya frowned. Wobbling like a toddler learning to walk, she made her way to Shakthi and plopped herself onto the floor beside him with zero grace. She tilted her head back to look up, her gaze meeting Avi’s with an unsteady focus.
Her eyes widened in surprise as she squinted, as if confirming the apparition before her.
Ada ama! En kanukum un bro theriyuran! Yepdhi?
( Wait yes! I can see him too! But how?)
Avi’s lips twitched, the ghost of a smile threatening to break through. But just as he entertained the thought, Ananya, in her drunken haze, squinted harder and muttered,
