Chloe pov:
I can't believe she said that. Is that true? I mean, why would she lie about something that serious. She's got a list of traumas, and I only know a few. Imma need to write that down. I then headed to class where I was sitting in the second row. I couldn't focus on the class because my mind kept thinking of all the things Red has said and revealed about herself. Now that I truly think about it. She has never been open to anyone else but me. She tells me things she said I wasn't supposed to hear, too. I opened my notebook and read again and again. Mal said that what Red said was direct. How come I can't get it like she does. Mal clearly can see something I don't. As I'm reading, I notice a little written drawing of an arrow. I then flip the page to see Evie's phone number with a note saying, "If you want to understand Red more, give me a call when you're alone." I then closed my book before anyone can notice. The rest of the day went slow, considering my mind kept thinking of Red. It's like she's all I'm thinking about. I'm starting to see her a little differently.... I'm not sure how different yet, but it's definitely something. After the bell rang, I went to my usual fencing. It was one of the few times I didn't think about Red. After the 30 minutes was up, I decided to hide in a quiet corner before supper and try to call Evie. Sat down next to a tree away from the building and opened my book to the page where Evie left her number. I grabbed my phone and called.
Evie: Hello?
Chloe: Hey Evie, it's Chloe.... umm..... I found your little note in my book.
Evie: Oh good, I was expecting you to call as soon as you could. I'm guessing that means you're interested in learning how a vk thinks?
Chloe: Yes, but how are you able to help me?
Evie: Well when you left your book at our house we decided to read it and try to understand it ourselves, Mal had a better understanding on certain parts just like I had a better understanding of some other parts. Together, we worked together, and we figured you'd also want to maybe hear on what we think.
Chloe: I'd love to know, I mean, you know how I told you how clueless I was.
Evie: ok, great, give me a quote and the context behind that quote, and we can try to understand it better together.
So, I flipped the pages back and read one out loud to Evie.
Chloe: I need you to know that I only have so much power. If my mom wants some things, she’ll do anything in her power to make it happen… So, for the love of god, please stop breaking the rules before you end up like your mother.
Evie: Ah, yes. That one is one of the more tricky ones.... The first half is about her warning you about the things her mom can do..... the second half, she's trying to show her care.... because she doesn't want you to end up like your mom. Her way of showing you that is through rule enforcement, I think there were a few other quotes similar. Both Mal and I think that it's about keeping you safe in a way.
Chloe: So everything I thought she was threatening me by saying I need to follow the rules is just trying to protect me from being killed?
Evie: It looks like it to us. But we do have to let you know that we are not Red. These are just potential theories persay.
Chloe: I get that... can we try another?
Evie: Sure, give me another quote.
I then read a few more and found one I've been trying to understand for a few days now.
Chloe: Yeh kinda started after orientation….
Evie: Hmm, I might need some context for that one. If you can tell what you know about the situation or convo, I can maybe try to understand it.
