Even the gods are interested in this case now.
Its been a few days, and we have not the LEAST idea what we are supposed to do.
Yes, initially, we thought it's one of the three families he had enmity with. But, how wrong we were. Or maybe, we are right. It's simply that we don't know anything as of yet. We can't prove anything as of yet.
What the hell.
Kim Namgi. WHO KILLED YOU????
I sit by my terrace as I think about all the progress we've made in the case till now... It's not much. But it makes me feel like I'm doing something useful.
"I'm coming inside." Eun-woo says, as he comes inside the room.
"Wait. Why are you sitting out there in this blizzard???" He asks, clearly concerned. I hop out my seat and enter the room, closing the door to the terrace. I know he's probably gonna scold me now.
"It's December, Moonyoung. You'll catch a cold." He says, wrapping a scarf around my neck. It gives me butterflies.
"Yes, its 29th December. And we still haven't got anywhere with that case!!" I say, pouting.
"Aww dont worry, moony. I'm sure we will get somewhere soon." He says, patting me gently. I'M GONNA DIE.
"Wait a damn minute."
Realization. It hits hard. Really hard.
Kim Namgi wasn't killed.
"What?" He asks, gently.
"Eureka, bishh" I say, taking my coat off the hanger. "I think I know what to do." I add, grinning.
"Huh?" He's puzzled.
So, let me bring some light on this amazing discovery.
What do we know about the victim? Kim Namgi, 37, Prosecutor ... and?
Novelist.
A person obsessed with murder mysteries. A person who has no one to live for. A psycho who staged his death. Staged it to draw suspicion to his enemies. Staged it in the most unimaginable way. Stabbing himself. I know the idea seems ridiculous, but one must consider... as I like it call it, "psychology" of the crime.
"The one mistake to never be made is overlooking the obvious." I say wisely, choosing every word.
"Moonyoung? Do you know who committed the murder?"
"Yes. Namgi."
"What? But, he was stabbed!"
"Yes. But he stabbed himself in that excruciating way. And I will prove it. And for that, I need you to take me to the scene of the crime. Call Yoona and Sung-Jae too."
"Okay." He doesnt ask any questions further. Great. I am going to unviel my extraordinary discovery like the best performance.
We get in the car and get to the scene of the crime.
"Moonyoung!? Have you cracked the case already??" Yoona asks me.
"Maybe." I answer.
We all get to the room where the body was found..
Now, there is one thing that should be present in the room if Kim Namgi had actually killed himself. Evidence. A tiny proof that only the true fans of his would find out. He always had this feature in his books... I don't know what the proof is, but I am sure I can find it.
I begin examining the room.
"Moonyoung. What are you-" Sung-Jae wills to ask, but Eun-woo gestures him to wait.
I look around, touching everything. For 15 minutes. No results. No nothing. But then...
I look up.
A strange hook is mounted on the ceiling. And, another little mechanism is fit on the wall, right next to the chair where we found Namgi.
I turn off the lights. A light, would be transparent if lights were on, thread hangs from the ceiling to the mechanism. No one says anything, thinking its simply a web. Little do they know, its a strong material.
Transparent Foylon. A material from his last book.
And then it clicks.
And then... I unveil my discovery.
"He sat down thinking.. that he had nothing to live for. Being a prosecutor, he knew, murders. So, he became a novelist. To find something to live for. Writing about murders all the time, he had developed a maniacal mind. He wanted to say his last goodbyes... like a performance. Only the real fans would know the truth.. that is, if someone ventured to find out. So, the man takes a knife, hangs it by foylon, through the hooks and to the mechanism, which would suspend the knife to his throat in a pendulum like motion. And thats the gruesome suicide of Kim Namgi."
"What???" Yoona shouts.
"Are you sure?" Sung-Jae asks.
"One hundred percent." I say.
A letter is brought up to me by a man dressed in black again.
I take it from him and read it aloud.
"Congratulations, Kim Moonyoung. You have successfully passed your GRIM REAPER EXAMINATION!!!!" I scream in delight.
"OMG CONGRATS MOONYOUNG!!!" Yoona shouts too. We both dance in joy. Sung-Jae congratulates me as well.
"I believed in you always." Eun-woo says, smiling his most beautiful smile.
"Lets eat out today to celebrate!!!!" Yoona proposes. We all agree.
At the same time, someone calls me. An unindentified caller.
"Just a minute." I say, and Eun-woo says, " Okay. "
"Hello?" I say.
"Congratulations for cracking the case, Moonyoung. I am very very happy for you. I wish I could be there for you right now. I would have been, but, I am in a little pickle right now." Joon says.
"Joon!? Oh my god. Thank you! And its alright if you couldn't meet me." I say, with a slight chuckle.
"I will make up to you, though. Would you kindly join me for New Year's Dinner, miss reaper?" He asks.
"What? Really?"
"Yes, I can pick you up. You see, I think I know how I can make this New Year special for you." He says, and I can imagine the smile on his face right now.
"Well, alright, mister angel. See you on the 31st." I say.
"Who are you seeing on the 31st again?" Eun-woo says.
I guess he heard me.
