And so, the day has come. The new semester has started! (Actually, it started four days ago.) A new semester brings new things. I have made a firm resolution:

I will read books every day. I will complete any assignments given by the teachers promptly, without procrastinating. I will go to the library whenever I have the chance. I will stop playing games and drinking alcohol. I will be a good student.

[T/n: That sounds just like me when I was a student! I made all those promises too, but let's just say it didn't always go as planned 😂.]

Wow, that sounds so perfect. Don't tell me you believe me! Haha, if I could do all that, I might as well become a monk. It would be great if I could, but I'm not very good at being good. Haha, I'm rambling too much. How can someone be so handsome and still be so talkative?

[T/n: 🥹]

A new semester also brings new freshmen. Welcome to all the lovely, fresh-faced first-year students! Seeing the freshmen always brings a sense of freshness and energy. There are so many girls (from other faculties).

Seeing them reminds me of my first day at university three years ago. It feels like it was just a few days ago. Now, I'm in my third year. Time flies, doesn't it? Ai Peem gets old, boohoo!

Throughout the past week, the sound of drums, freshman welcome songs, and the mischievous seniors teasing the freshmen echoed across the university, including my Faculty of Fine Arts. Q was teasing a group of female freshmen, making them ask the security guard to marry them in exchange for his autograph. Haha.

This was our last class, but the professor was away in Austria for a conference and would be back next week. So, I was free and decided to check out the freshmen activities. The atmosphere in front of the faculty was lively and chaotic. Freshmen were asking for seniors' autographs, some were being teased, dancing, or saying silly things. It was quite funny.
Green and Gigi were calling this their golden hour, making hay while the sun shines. They were targeting the male freshmen, while the female freshmen were mostly spared. The freshmen probably knew them from the orientation day since they were part of the recreation team and the cheerleading leaders. Meeting them always guaranteed a good laugh. I was sitting here with Neung and other guys too, waiting to tease the freshmen (they dragged me along, saying they haven't seen me for a long time and missed their husbands).

"What's your name ka?" Green asked sweetly. This group of freshmen seemed to have something in common with Green, as they were very fair-skinned, with pink cheeks and red lips.

"My name is Pan ka." said a freshman wearing a tie and slacks but using 'ka'. Haha. Actually, their names were hanging around their necks on name tags, but we just wanted to ask. The freshmen started introducing themselves until the last one.

[* in case you forgot, ka (คะ) is particle used by female speakers at the end of questions to make them more polite.]

"I'm Nong Kwang (กวาง Doe) ka."

"Wow, the name says it all." Neung said with bright eyes. Nong Kwang looked very neat and well-behaved, almost like a girl at first glance. Definitely your type, Neung.

"น้องเป็นอะไรคะ" Gigi stopped harassing me and stood up to ask. I was confused. What's wrong with the freshman? They didn't seem sick. Then, the group of freshmen answered in unison, making us all fall back in surprise.

[*เป็นอะไร Although the literally meaning of เป็นอะไร is closer to "what are you?" it's frequently used as a phrase by itself to mean "What's wrong ?". Peem was understanding Gigi's question as "What's wrong with you?" but she was actually asking "What are you?"]
