Chapter 36: Within My Heart (Part 1)

Story from Nong Toey's POV

"A'Guy, where's my seat?" I asked Guy, my friend in the group, because I had asked him to save a seat for me with my backpack.

"In the back." he said, too engrossed in his PSP to look up at me.

I squeezed past the seniors and juniors who were singing and dancing merrily to find my seat. The bus was chaotic with everyone looking for their seats, asking names, and schools of new friends.

Finally, I found my seat. Damn it, Guy, you put me all the way at the back. I put my backpack in the overhead compartment. After a while, the bus started moving with the sound of music and drums.

If I remember correctly, the person playing the drums was named K from the architecture faculty. There were many people singing, including P'Green from the performing arts department. She was the head of the entertainment team. I think she has a crush on P'Q. It's funny when P'Green flirts with P'Q.

I sang and clapped along with everyone. Two girls were punished and made to dance, but I wasn't paying much attention because I was busy watching the person P'Jet called to play the drums instead of P'K.

When P'Q stood up, the junior girls and the girls from the architecture faculty screamed. They kept calling Nong Q, Phi Q without being tired. Hmph, I was starting to get annoyed and quickly looked away when P'Q looked at me.

P'Jet explained that the resort we were staying at belonged to P'Q's family. The screams got even louder. No wonder the budget wasn't high, but we were staying at a five-star resort because the owner's son was our sponsor.

I stopped paying attention to the Q fever because I was afraid I wouldn't be able to control myself and shout 'That's my P'Q!' So, I put my iPod earphones in both ears, let my heart relax, and looked out the window.

I don't know where the bus is in Thailand right now. I just know that there are no tall buildings on either side to make me feel cramped anymore. There are only fields and mountains. Seeing the green of the trees is so soothing that it makes me feel at ease. I don't know how much time has passed since the sound of music and drums faded from my hearing.

"Move over a bit, let me sit."

I looked up at the person tapping my shoulder. As soon as I saw who it was, my heart skipped a beat. I moved to make room for P'Q to sit, even though I was so excited I could barely function.

"What are you listening to?" P'Q took the liberty of grabbing one of my earphones and putting it in his ear. I switched my left earphone to my right ear. I must have unconsciously stared at P'Q's face for too long because he flicked my forehead with his long fingers.

"Ouch! Why did you hit me, P'Q? That hurt!"
"Why were you staring at me? Do you want to get bitten again? Heh heh."

"You're crazy, P'Q." I was speechless when he brought up that incident.

This morning, Hia Phum and Hia Peem teased me about it too. Wait, where is Hia Peem anyway? He must be on the other bus. I glared at P'Q but quickly turned to look out the window again. Does P'Q know how he's looking at me? That look is too sweet.

When I was in the haunted house, I wasn't scared of ghosts. I could go in alone, no problem, as long as the lights were on. Heh, because I don't really like dark places.
