Chapter Fifty: Front and Center

"The Japan Idol Festival?!"

Kana and Ruby exclaimed together as they both looked at Mem-Cho in utter disbelief.

"Yeah! The producers I worked with on Love Now have a connection. If we're interested, he's saying he can squeeze us into the lineup."

Mem-Cho looked up from her phone, her face absolutely beaming with excitement. Kana, on the other hand, looked quite skeptical.

"But isn't the festival in a month? It'll be impossible for us to prepare in time! The thought of newcomers going onto that big of a stage out of nowhere is-"

"C-mon c'mon, let's do it!"

Ruby cut off the red head pushing their cheeks together. Kana became even more disgruntled as she shot a glare at Ruby.

"This is the JIF we're talking about! JIF! Just think about it, the rebirth of New-Komachi taking on such a big stage as our debut?! We'd make headlines!"

"Headlines on bombing the performance... They'd go on and on about how we're just pretty faces and only have connections with no talent."

Kana retorted, Ruby seemed unfazed by the counterargument and puffed out her chest, putting a fist to where her heart was.

"That won't matter! After all, we are the successors of the legendary Idol Group B-Komachi!"

"That's only because it's the name you came up with..."

"Personally, I think it'd be a waste to not attend."

Mem-Cho said, interrupting the pair's argument. Ruby, snuggly, pointed at Mem-Cho, which only gave Kana an even more exasperated look on her face.

"It's a stage that ordinary groups get to stand on after years of tireless work. If we're not going to take this risk, why did we even become Idols!?"

Kana seemed to finally relent, looking down at the ground, pondering for a brief moment.

"I guess you have a point. If you both insist, I'll do it... This is my job, after all."

"It's decided then! Now... since that's settled I think it's finally time we make a decision on that..."

Mem-Cho said, as she stood up, Kana and Ruby looked at her confused, looking at each other briefly before looking back at Mem-Cho

"A decision on what, exactly?"

The blonde haired Idol asked. Mem-Cho smirked at the question.

"Who'll be New-Komachi's center!"

"Is that all that important? Does it really matter who it is?"

Kana asked, but knew the second both Mem-Cho and Ruby turned on her that she should have probably kept her damn mouth shut.

"Of course it does!"

The pair both shouted in unison.

"Centers are the star among Idols!"

Mem-Cho exclaimed, than Ruby joined on:

"A role for a cute girl who can really sing and dance, they're the face of the group!"

"It's the most important position of all!"

Mem-Cho and Ruby clap their hands to each other. Both girls smiled at their groupmate.. Kana could feel herself getting a headache from the pair's loud and frankly, overbearing mix of personalities.

"You two get along way too well... Well, does anyone want to be the center?"

Both Mem-Cho and Ruby both looked at each other for a moment, they're expressions barely being held together.
