Chapter 2

Geo woke up with a jolt, her heart racing as remnants of childhood dreams clawed at the edges of her mind. Shadows of the past that had haunted her since her return lingered uneasily in the air. She groaned softly, rubbing her face with weary hands, trying to erase the fog of sleep. As she glanced around the cramped space, confusion washed over her—this was not the comfort of her own room. 

The apartment felt stiflingly small, the bathroom so close to the kitchen that the distinct scent of spoiled food mingled with a lingering aroma of alcohol. she noticed she was perched unceremoniously on a thin mattress pushed against the wall next to a punching bag.

Her gaze drifted downward, and a jolt of realization hit her. She had no clothes on, the chill of the air kissing her skin. She nervously ran her fingers through her silver hair, its color glimmering in the muted light. Slowly, she rose from the mattress, the fabric creaking beneath her movements. 

She looked on the ground for her clothes. She started to put on her pants when the figure on the bed got up rubbing her eyes. Geo quickly put on her bra so she wasn't totally shameless.

The figure lifted her gaze to meet Geo's, her eyes reflecting a spark of recognition. "Good morning," Vi said, her voice soft despite her disheveled appearance that somehow struck Geo as adorably endearing. 

"Morning," Geo replied, a hint of warmth in her tone. "Sorry, I'll be out of your hair soon." She began to rummage through the messy pile of clothes in search of her outfit, the fabric slipping through her fingers. 

"Stay. Please," 

Geo blinked in surprise, her brow furrowing slightly. "Are you sure you want me to? I mean... you don't even really know me," she asked, the uncertainty evident in her voice.

Vi's shoulders slumped, and she cast her gaze downward as if the very mention of solitude weighed heavily upon her. "I'm sorry, I just can't bear to be alone right now," she admitted, a tremor in her voice. "I know it sounds strange asking my one-night stand to stick around, but believe it or not, you're the first person I've talked to in ages."

Geo studied Vi closely, noting the flicker of anguish hidden behind her attempts to look away, a vulnerability that tugged at her heart. It was clear that this woman was wrestling with some unseen burden, and a strong instinct urged Geo to remain. Her eyes drifted around the cramped apartment, taking in the array of bottles littering the surfaces—a silent testament to Vi's struggle. It dawned on her with a poignant clarity: this woman truly needed help. Geo sighed. "fine. I'll stay."

Vi glanced up, taken aback by her agreement. "Thanks," she said, a hint of surprise in her voice. 

Geo quickly grabbed a sturdy bag and began to collect the scattered trash around them, her movements efficient and purposeful. 

Vi watched her with a mixture of curiosity and admiration. "What are you doing?" she inquired, tilting her head slightly. 

"Cleaning," Geo replied, wrinkling her nose at the foul stench permeating the air. "I can't stand the smell" With a swift motion, she tossed a worn shirt in Vi's direction. "Here,"

Vi caught the vibrant shirt as it fluttered through the air and slipped it on, feeling the soft fabric against her skin. She stood there for a moment, observing Geo, who was diligently cleaning up the clutter around the room. Geo moved with purpose, her hands deftly sorting through debris, finally disposing of a bulging bag of garbage that she unceremoniously dropped in front of the door.

Curious, Vi asked, "So, your name is Geo? Am I right?" 

Geo glanced up for a brief moment, her nod affirming Vi's assumption, and then returned her focus to her task.

With a hint of a smile, Vi suggested, "I guess we should take a moment to get to know each other?"

Geo leaned against the bedroom wall, a playful smirk dancing across her lips. "Do you treat all your one-night stands with such charm, or am I just special?" 

Vi smiled softly, her expression warm yet a touch shy. "Well, I don't have that many," she replied.

"Really? A girl like you?" Geo teased, her tone lighthearted. "Girls love angsty, buff ladies." She caught a glimpse of Vi as she finished dressing, the way the sunlight streamed in through the window casting a soft glow around her, making her seem almost ethereal.

Vi chuckled, a hint of mischief in her gaze. "Guess my feminine charms don't work on them." Her smile was infectious, and Geo couldn't help but notice how breathtakingly beautiful she looked in that moment.

"Cool tattoo," Vi said, her eyes drifting to the ink etched on Geo's arm, a swirling design that spoke of adventure. 

"Not as cool as you might think," Geo replied, her voice a bit strained as she tried to shift the conversation away from territory she wasn't ready to delve into. Her gaze caught a wanted poster pinned to the wall outside the apartment, the bold letters spelling out "Jinx" alongside the girl's fierce image. "So, what do you think about that criminal, Jinx? I hear she's dangerous." 

The change in Vi was immediate; her demeanor hardened, her eyes averted. "I don't know much about her," she snapped. 

Geo sensed the weight of the unspoken words hanging in the air, a reminder that this topic could be sensitive for Vi. The thought crossed her mind that perhaps Jinx had a darker connection to Vi's past—maybe something tragic, something deeply personal. Geo shook off the possibility, letting it dissipate like the morning mist.

Suddenly, a pounding ache erupted in Geo's head, a cruel reminder of the alcohol she had indulged in the night before. 

"Are you okay?" Vi asked, her brows knitted in concern, the genuine care in her voice pulling at Geo's heartstrings.

"Yeah, just stupid hangovers," Geo replied, forcing a grin as she made her way to the door. "So, what's the plan? Are we going to grab some breakfast, or do you have something here?"
