Flashback

I burst into my dad's study, the cozy room filled with the scent of old books and polished wood. My excitement bubbled over as I leaped onto the well-worn leather couch, its dark surface perfectly soft and warm against my pink nightgown, which flowed around me like a feather. My matching pink bonnet perched playfully on my head, completing my whimsical look. 

Dad glanced up from his cluttered desk, his brow furrowing in mock disapproval. "Get down now, you little troublemaker!" he exclaimed, trying to maintain his stern demeanor.

"Or what?" I giggled, bouncing higher with delight. 

With a playful grin, he pushed back his chair and rose to his feet. "Or else I'm gonna come get ya!" 

I squealed with laughter as he lunged after me. We danced around the room, his footsteps heavy and exaggerated, while I darted away, my heart racing with joy. After a few minutes of this playful chase, he halted, feigning exhaustion and wheezing dramatically. "Okay, okay, you got me!"

I laughed heartily, jumping into his arms as he scooped me up effortlessly. We settled down together in front of the crackling fire, its warm glow casting flickering shadows on the walls. 

"What are you doing up, sweetheart? You know how your mother feels about your sleep schedule," he said, brushing my curls away from my face with a gentle hand, my pink bonnet now resting beside him on the couch.

"I couldn't sleep," I admitted softly, looking up at him with wide, hopeful eyes. "Can I sleep in your office?" 

He sighed, a mix of affection and exasperation in his voice. "Now, sweetheart—" 

"Please, please, pleeaasssee!" I begged, my enthusiasm spilling over as I pressed my case.

His sigh came again, a resigned but loving sound. "Oh, alright. Go get your blanket and pillow." 

I couldn't contain my excitement. With a gleeful squeal, I jumped off his lap and raced upstairs, my feet barely touching the ground as I hurried to fetch my cozy blanket and pillow for our special evening together.
