The house was quiet after the funeral, but the air felt heavy. Marcus and Mia stayed close, trying to process everything. As night fell, Mia sat in the living room, lost in thought, when the power suddenly went out.

Before she could react, someone grabbed her from behind. It was Helen. Her grip was strong as she whispered, “You’re coming with me.”

Mia struggled, her heart racing, but Helen dragged her toward the door. Just then, Marcus appeared, his face filled with shock and anger. “Let her go!” he yelled.

Helen tightened her hold on Mia and smirked. “Stay out of this, Marcus. You’ve already lost your mother. Do you want to lose her too?”

Marcus’s blood boiled. He couldn’t let Helen take Mia. He rushed toward them, and Helen pulled out a knife, threatening him to back off.

Mia broke free for a moment, but in the struggle, Marcus and Helen fought over the knife. It all happened so fast—Helen lunged, Marcus tried to stop her, and the knife ended up piercing Helen’s chest.

Helen gasped, stumbling back before collapsing to the floor. Marcus froze, staring at his hands in disbelief. “I didn’t mean to…” he whispered, his voice shaking.

Mia ran to him, her eyes wide with shock. “Marcus, you saved me. You didn’t have a choice,” she said, holding his trembling hands.

Tears rolled down Marcus’s face as he looked at Helen, lifeless on the floor. “What have I done?” he muttered.

Mia hugged him tightly, her voice steady. “You were protecting me. It’s not your fault. We’ll get through this together.”

As they sat on the floor, holding each other, they both knew their lives had just changed forever.

The aftermath of Helen’s death shook both Marcus and Mia. The police arrived, and Marcus didn’t resist when they questioned him. He confessed to what happened, explaining that it was an accident while trying to protect Mia.

As for the investigation, shocking truths about Helen came to light. She was a nasty mafia leader, involved in countless illegal activities, including the threats against Mia and her mother. Evidence from her past crimes proved that Marcus acted in self-defense while saving Mia.

Despite this, the court decided Marcus was responsible for Helen’s death, even if it wasn’t intentional. He was sentenced to two years in prison.

Before leaving, Marcus pulled Mia close, his voice soft but firm. “Don’t wait for me. Live your life.”

Tears welled in Mia’s eyes, but she replied. “I’ll be here when you’re back, Marcus. You’re not alone in this.”

As Marcus was taken away,he said Mia to stay strong, knowing the truth about Helen would finally bring justice.
