♡♡Tw: hate comments
_____Jay had always been someone who took pride in his appearance and abilities. Before joining the group, he'd been confident in his looks and voice, constantly praised by his friends and family for his natural charisma. But once he debuted, things quickly changed.
The spotlight, as much as it brought attention and success, also invited criticism. It was an inevitable part of being a public figure, but Jay hadn't anticipated the harshness and cruelty of some fans. Comments about his looks started creeping in-comments about his weight, his face, his voice. They hurt, but at first, Jay tried to brush them off. He reminded himself that everyone in the industry faced negativity, and it wasn't anything personal.
However, the criticisms began to affect him in ways he hadn't expected. The more he tried to ignore them, the louder they seemed to grow. Online trolls called him "fat," "ugly," and "the weakest singer" of the group. They compared him to the other members, making him feel like he could never measure up. Even the fans who once supported him now left comments that only made him feel worse about himself. Jay found himself becoming more self-conscious, avoiding mirrors, and constantly scrutinizing his reflection.
At first, the older members had noticed Jay pulling back. He wasn't as talkative or as open as he used to be. His smiles seemed forced, his confidence waning with each passing day. When the others asked him about it, Jay would simply brush it off, saying it was nothing. He didn't want to burden them with his insecurities, especially when they were all working so hard as a team.
But the truth was, he was struggling
~
It had been a long day of practice, and the group was winding down. Jay stood by the mirror, staring at his reflection. The usual doubts crept into his mind. He had lost weight recently, trying to fit into the image others expected of him, but he didn't see it as a victory. Every part of him felt wrong-too much, not enough.
"Jay, you're okay?" Heeseung's voice pulled him from his thoughts, and Jay quickly wiped his eyes, forcing a smile.
"Yeah, just tired," Jay replied, not looking directly at the others. His eyes darted to the floor, unwilling to meet the concerned gazes of the group.
But Heeseung wasn't convinced. He walked over and placed a hand on Jay's shoulder. "You don't have to hide it from us, you know? If something's bothering you... we're here."
Jay swallowed hard. The overwhelming weight of the past few weeks was catching up to him. He wanted to scream, to let it all out, but his pride wouldn't let him. He didn't want to look weak, not in front of his members. But today, something inside him finally snapped.
He found himself in the practice room later that night, alone. The members had gone to rest, and Jay was left in the quiet, trying to focus on the choreography. But as the movements flowed, he couldn't stop thinking about the cruel comments. "Fat," "ugly," "can't sing." They all echoed in his head. He pushed himself harder, hoping to burn off the suffocating weight of those words.
Then, his phone buzzed.
He checked it. Another message from a fan-another cruel message.
"Jay's just the filler member."
"Why does he always look so miserable?"
"He's honestly so ugly compared to the others."That was it. Tears started to blur his vision. He couldn't take it anymore. He quickly hid his phone and collapsed against the wall, covering his face with his hands.
The door creaked open, and before he could even register who it was, the others rushed in, their eyes wide with concern.
"Jay hyung?" Jungwon was the first to approach, his voice soft but firm. "What's going on? We heard you... crying."
Jay wiped his face quickly, trying to compose himself. "It's nothing, really. Just tired..." He stood up, but his legs felt weak, and his body ached with exhaustion.
"No, hyung," Sunghoon stepped forward, his usual calm demeanor replaced with worry. "It's not nothing. What happened?"
Jay couldn't hold it in any longer. He broke down, sobs shaking his body as he finally allowed himself to speak. "I'm... I'm tired of it. The comments. They always call me fat and ugly. I try so hard, but it's never enough. I feel like I'm not good enough for the group. I don't even know how to sing like them. I can't even look at myself anymore."
The room was silent as the members processed his words. They knew Jay had been struggling, but hearing it all laid out like that hit them harder than they expected.
It was Sunghoon who stepped forward first, wrapping his arms around Jay in a tight hug. "You are more than enough. You're not just 'the filler member.' You're Jay. And we all love you for who you are-just as you are. Don't let those hateful comments get to you. They don't know you like we do."
Heeseung was next to join, gently placing a hand on Jay's back. "You're one of the most talented people I know. Your voice, your presence, your heart... they make this group what it is. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise."
Jay sniffled, his tears slowing down as the warmth from his members surrounded him. Sunoo and Sunghoon stood beside him, offering their quiet support, while Jungwon, the ever-present leader, took a deep breath and spoke with the authority of someone who knew Jay better than anyone.
"You're not just some random member, Jay. You're our Jay. And no matter what anyone says, we'll always be here for you. No one can take that away."
Ni-ki, the youngest, looked up at Jay with wide eyes. "Hyung, you're perfect the way you are. I look up to you so much. You've always been my role model."
Jay felt a warm, bittersweet smile tug at his lips. He hadn't realized how much he needed to hear those words, not from the fans, but from the people who mattered most.
"I'm sorry," Jay whispered, feeling embarrassed by his breakdown. "I shouldn't have let it get to me."
"You don't need to apologize for being human," Jungwon said firmly. "We've got your back, always. No matter what the world says, you're more than enough."
The others nodded in agreement, standing united around him. Jay felt a heavy weight lifting off his chest as their words of reassurance sank in. Maybe he had been listening to the wrong voices for too long. Maybe it was time to start listening to the people who truly cared.
Jay looked around at his members, his family. He didn't need to be perfect for them. He just needed to be himself.
And that, in their eyes, was enough.
