It was a typical evening at the dorm. The members had just finished practice, and now they were all lounging in the living room, unwinding after a long day of intense rehearsals.
Heeseung was sprawled out on the couch, talking animatedly about something that had happened earlier in the day. Sunghoon, always quick to add his own witty remarks, was laughing in his usual carefree way.
Jake, ever the playful one, was poking fun at Ni-ki, who was mock-scowling in response.
Laughter and chatter filled the air, but amid all the noise, one thing stood out. Jay, who usually had something to say, who usually had a joke ready, was eerily quiet. He was sitting on the floor near the window, his back leaning against the wall, his gaze focused somewhere far off. His usual smile was absent, and his energy seemed distant. He hadn't laughed once at Heeseung's stories or even responded to Jake's teasing.
At first, the others didn't think much of it. Maybe he was just tired after the intense practice, or maybe he just needed a little quiet time. But as the minutes passed, they couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong.
"Jay hyung?" Sunghoon called, his voice light but laced with concern. "You're awfully quiet today. Everything okay?"
Jay didn't look up, his gaze still distant, unfocused. He just shrugged slightly, offering no verbal response. It wasn't like him at all.
Heeseung, who was usually the first to pick up on such things, leaned forward and looked at Jay more closely. "Jay," he said again, softer this time. "You've been really quiet. What's going on?"
The others stopped talking, noticing the change in Heeseung's tone. They all turned their attention to Jay. It wasn't like him to just sit in silence, especially not when everyone else was so lively. Even when he was in a more reflective mood, he would still engage, even if only a little.
"Are you feeling okay?" Jungwon, the leader, asked. His voice was calm but firm, his concern evident. "You've been really distant today."
Jay blinked slowly, then looked up at Jungwon. His eyes looked tired, and his usual brightness was missing. "I... I don't really know," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "I just... don't feel like myself right now."
The room fell into a heavy silence, the weight of Jay's words sinking in. The members exchanged uncertain glances. Jay wasn't one to share much about his inner feelings, so to hear him say this was unusual.
"You don't know?" Jake asked, his tone gentle but confused. "Do you feel sick or something?"
Jay shook his head. "No, it's not that. I just feel... off. Like I'm here, but I'm not really here." His voice trailed off, as if he was still trying to make sense of it himself. "It's hard to explain. I just feel empty, like I'm not... I'm not really connecting to anything right now."
The other members exchanged looks, all of them visibly concerned but unsure how to help. They weren't used to seeing Jay like this, and it hurt to see him so distant.
"Jay, hyung, we're all here for you," Sunghoon said, moving closer to him. "You don't have to go through this alone."
Jay looked at Sunghoon, his eyes filled with confusion and a bit of sadness. "I know... but it doesn't make sense. I don't know why I feel like this."
Jungwon sat down next to him, placing a hand on his shoulder. "Sometimes people feel that way," he said softly. "Sometimes, there's no clear reason for it. It doesn't mean there's something wrong with you, and it doesn't mean you're weak for feeling like this. It's just part of being human."
Jay glanced at Jungwon, his eyes searching for some kind of comfort. "But what if it never goes away? What if I stay like this forever?"
Ni-ki, who had been quietly observing, stepped forward, his voice small but sincere. "Hyung... you don't have to figure it out all at once. We're here for you, always. If you need time, that's okay. But if you ever want to talk, we'll listen. You don't have to go through this alone."
Sunghoon nodded, agreeing with Ni-ki. "Exactly. We're your family. You've been there for us countless times, hyung. Now it's our turn to be there for you. Whatever you're feeling, it's okay to feel it. You're not alone in this."
Jay looked around at his members, their faces full of concern and care. For a moment, he just stared at them, the weight of their words settling over him. He hadn't realized just how much he needed to hear them, how much he needed the reminder that he wasn't alone, even when he felt like he was.
"Thanks, guys," Jay said softly, a small, grateful smile tugging at his lips. "I didn't realize how much I needed to hear that."
Jungwon squeezed his shoulder reassuringly. "You don't have to have all the answers right now, hyung. We'll figure this out together. Just remember that it's okay to not be okay sometimes. We're always here for you."
Heeseung, who had been quietly observing, leaned back against the couch and spoke up. "Yeah, hyung. You're one of us. We're a team, and we've got each other's backs no matter what."
Jake smiled at Jay, his eyes full of warmth. "Whenever you're ready to talk, we'll listen. But there's no pressure, okay?"
Jay nodded slowly, the weight on his chest beginning to feel a little lighter. "Okay," he said quietly. "I'll try to talk when I can. I just... I don't know what's going on yet. But I'm glad you guys are here."
Sunghoon gave him a reassuring pat on the back. "Of course we're here. We're your brothers, Jay."
The room remained quiet for a while, but this time, it wasn't an uncomfortable silence. It was a peaceful one, filled with the understanding that sometimes, people needed space to figure things out, and that it was okay to lean on others when it felt hard to carry the weight alone.
As the evening went on, Jay slowly began to feel the warmth of his members' presence. He still didn't have all the answers, but he knew one thing for sure-he wasn't alone. And that made all the difference.
