Nishtha

I had gotten up and taken a nice shower, then had just put on a simple salwar suit when I felt my body freeze as he called my name. I knew he was behind me but I didn't want to talk to him. I turned, tried to walk away but he blocked my way and suddenly I became selfish wanted to stay in his warmth.
But I can't.
Not after everything.

"I found out about Bua...." He started.
Wait? What?
How did he find out about her? Did she confess? No, she wouldn't.
How did he know then? What about Vamika? I needed answers, but I'm not going to get them through him, I'll ask Vamika. She's the only one dealing with it for as long as I have. We will help each other out.

I didn't dare to look into his eyes.
If I do, I'll fall for him again.
Again? You never stopped loving him.
Shut up.
I can't stay here another second without crying, so I walked away, ignoring him entirely.

I ran outside and tried to calm my tears.
I can't stay here, God.

"Nishu!" I heard Mom say.
I went downstairs, "Yeah?"
"Nishu! Good you're here. Are you okay to have guests today? Or do you want to stay inside?"
"What do you mean?"
"We mean," Dad said, "Vamika's boyfriend's family are coming today, to finalize the wedding and everything to do with it. Would you like to stay inside or join us?"
"Whatever you want, Dad." I said.
I didn't make sense to join when I know I'm not going to be a part of this family for too long.
"Well then, come join." He chirped.
Thought so.
I nodded and started to help Mom in the kitchen. I worked quietly when she spoke, "How was your trip?"
"It was good."
"Nishu... I... I found out about Meenakshi."
I froze and looked at her.
"We're really sorry you had to deal with this Nishtha, it should have been us taking care of her situation and not you, you were left to suffer for it, I.... I'm sorry."
"No Mom. It...It's okay. Vamika is my sister too, so I did it for my sister."
"You're too strong. Stronger than all of us. Yuvaan had always been right about you."
I felt myself internally smirking.
Sure, Mom. Right about me. Of course.
"Let's... not talk about that. I... I think we should focus on the lunch."
"You're right." She said and wiped her tears.

After a while, we all had finished working and I noticed Yuvaan come downstairs. His eyes were piecing at me, but I didn't look back.
"Mom." He said, his deep voice echoing.
"Yes?"
"When are they guests coming?"
"They'll be here any minute." Mom said.
"Okay." He said and came towards me. Before he could reach, I got up and went towards the kitchen.
Thankfully, Mom and Dad were engrossed in talking to Vamika, they didn't notice. But, on the other hand, I could feel Yuvaan walking behind me.

I reached the kitchen and grabbed a glass of water, and was pouring the water in when he entered. I pretended to ignore him and finished pouring and tried to drink it when he stood in front of me.
"Nishu..." he said, his tone as soft as a feather, "I know you don't want to talk to me. But, Nishtha punish me all you want, but please don't push me away."
I can't give in.
"I haven't heard your voice, my love. In days. I want to hear you, I want to hold you, I... I know I've damaged you to a level which might not be fixable, but.... It's you who told me, right, that every broken thing can be mended. I really need you, please."
He tried to grab my hand but I moved back and drank the water, one sip, as I tried to act unaffected by him, his proximity.
He came closer, put his hand around my glass and then took a sip, his eyes staring onto me, "It tastes amazing suddenly, and it's just water."
I moved back, trying to leave.
But his hold on me was too tight.
He slowly kept the water glass on the counter and then held my hand tightly, "Nishtha, I knew that 4 years back I promised to hold your hand and not leave it, but I did.... And I did it again this time, so you won't trust my words, and that's okay. You don't need to, but you need to know that I swear with my life and the life of my parents, I'm never letting this hand go again."
I looked down.
He came closer, caressed my face and then walked back outside.

What's he doing to me?
