Nishtha

It's been a few days since that day. Luckily, Pri had agreed to come on the intentional trip and I was super glad to have someone with me. Bua hadn't done anything, since we last met, which was lowkey terrifying me. This isn't normal.

We haven't spoken much. Yuvaan tried to talk to me but I walked away - every time.
I didn't want to get attached to him anymore, it was a waste of time when I know that our marriage has an expiry date. I was civil, but not more than that.

This morning, I had decided to spend most of the day outside. I woke up by 8, got everything done and I was in the office since 9:30. After the office, I went to Pri's house, we were going to pack her bags today. I had already packed my bag and it was kept ready in my room.
Needless to say, I was very excited!

"Aai!" I said on call, "Are you all free this evening?"
"No beta, we're going out."
"Oh."
"Why? What happened?"
"I thought I'll come over, I'm going to Pri's house anyway, but it's alright."
"Sorry beta!" Aai said and cut the call.

I got up and went over to Pri's house after that. Within 10 minutes, I was there.

"Pri!" I said as I entered, "How are you?"
"I'm good, how are you?"
"I'm good, are you packed?"
"I started! Waiting for you."
"Chalo then! I'm here. Let's go and pack!"
We went into her room and started to pack and we spoke for so long until she pulled up the one topic I didn't want to hear, Yuvaan.
"You need to sort yourself out." She said.
"I'm trying, but I don't want to make things work with someone who doesn't defend my Aai Baba, Pri!"
"He couldn't defend but what about the fact that he believed Bua, he did... and said..."
"I don't want you to go back into the past Nish, I just want you to understand that this is your married life, and contract or not, you need to make yourself and your marriage bearable."
"I'm trying to, but I everyday hear things like I'm a liar, I'm a cheater, I'm this, I'm that. How much more do I tolerate?"
"Nishtha, just one last chance. For me!"
"Okay fine! I'll... I'll try."
"You know you still love him. I know you love him, but you need to let those feelings show and maybe he'll also let it happen."
"The old Nishtha and Yuvaan aren't coming back anymore, Pri, but we can only hope."
"They're going to come back. I'm betting on it. I'm sure they'll be back."
"Too many hopes aren't good."
"Yeah yeah! We'll see." She laughed and I laughed with her.

"Acha! I'm gonna go home." I said after 4 hours of packing with her, "I'll see you in 2 days!"
"We meet at the airport?"
"Yep!"
"Chalo! See you!"

I booked a cab home and got into the cab. Maybe she was right. I should have been trying to be more civil. Ever since I got married, I've been wanting him to try and now when he is, I'm the one who is backing away. I shouldn't do that. I need to try as well. I know that the old Yuvaan and Nishtha won't ever come back, but at least we can be civil with each other until.... We call it quits. I sighed and finalized my decision to myself. I'm going to be civil now.

I got down the cab and walked home. Upon entering and closing the door, I was greeted by a very angry Yuvaan.
"STAY THERE." He said, through anger.
I got shocked, "W...What happened?"
"Nishtha Yadav. Some people never learn their lesson, do they?"
"W..what?"
"I thought, that you know, maybe Nishtha is innocent, maybe nothing had happened then. Maybe, just maybe, she was innocent and it was me who misunderstood.... But you again proved me wrong Nishtha."
"What did I do?" I asked.
"What did you do?!" He glared at me. He pulled up an audio recording.... In my voice?
He played it and something very very close to my voice played in the house: 'Mukesh Bhai, I'm married to him now, you really think that I can't win him back. After 4 years, I've gotten the chance to finally continue my plan again, I'm not letting it go this time.'
What the heck? This isn't me!
'Kya karegi tu?'
'I'm playing hard to get. I know Yuvaan likes that. Once he's mine again, I'll continue my plan. Vamika is already in my finger, Yuvaan will come back. His family loves me anyway.'
I felt tears down my eyes, but this time, I didn't scream. I didn't yell. I knew he wouldn't trust me so there's no point of trying.
"Care to say anything?!" Yuvaan scoffed.
"It isn't me. Yuvaan." I tried to speak.
"It isn't you. Just like it wasn't you before?" He was surprisingly soft.
"No. It's not. It wasn't me and it isn't me right now."
"Shut up you liar. Some people really never change, really never ever change." He said, "I thought I need to try to get you back, maybe you'll talk to me and finally open up, but no. Nothing. Now I realize, you can't open up because you're a liar."
I cried. I can't defend myself. No point.
He came to me and grabbed my hand, "TALK NISHTHA. TALK."
I shook, "WHAT DO I SAY YUVAAN?!" I snapped, "WHAT DO I SAY? YOU DIDN'T LISTEN THEN AND YOU WON'T LISTEN NOW. YOU THREW ME AWAY YUVAAN. I TRIED TO CALL, I TRIED TO TALK, I SCREAMED, I YELLED.... YOU JUST THREW ME AWAY."
"KEEP YOUR VOICE DOWN YOU LIAR." He yelled, "STAY AWAY FROM ME."
He threw my bag at me, and I was shocked. I felt a relapse of what happened before. The past 4 years came back. Tears followed freely down my eyes.
"Yu...Yuvaan!" I cried, "You're making the same mistake as you did before. Please just hear me out."
"OH NOW YOU WANT TO OPEN UP, ONCE YOUR LIE GOT CAUGHT."
"Yuvaan no...." I cried.
"SHUT UP NISHTHA. THE ONLY MISTAKE I MADE WAS LETTING YOU BE MY WIFE. ONCE A CHEATER, ALWAYS A FREAKING CHEATER."
That.
That was it.
That broke the last remaining hope I had in me.
I froze.
I didn't think I'd have to hear that.
"I... why would you say that?" I stammered.
"DON'T DO EMOTIONAL DRAMA." He kept on yelling and yelling.
I stared at him.
"Get out, Nishtha." He said, without looking at me, "Your bags are packed. Get out."
"Yuvaan. Stop." I tried to reason, "Please don't make this mistake again. Please let me help you get to the bottom of this. It's not me Yuvaan, you know it's not me."
"I don't know what to think anymore. Nishtha, just go. I don't want to repeat the same mistake so I won't touch you, it's better you take your stuff and leave on your own."
I froze. I didn't think this would happen.
Just when I tried to make things work.!
It's the second time this happened and he still doesn't believe me. I thought he'd learn something from the first time, I thought that his efforts meant that he's seeing that I was innocent but I was clearly wrong.
"Who sent this to you?" I asked.
"I don't need to answer you. But you should know that this isn't it, I have more evidence against you."
"Who sent it?"
"Bua. She's the only one who saw the truth, then and now."
Bua. Of course.
I laughed, "Of course it's Bua. Of course it is. It was her the last time too, and it's her this time too. I screamed that it's Bua last time as well, but you sided with her.... And this time as well. You'll always only love one person. Your Bua."
He looked at me, "Just go."
I grabbed my bags and then looked at him once more, "I hate you, Yuvaan." I said and walked out of the house, vowing never come to back.

I walked out, and sat on the doorstep.
Cried, cried and cried.
Why doesn't fate always do this to me?
Some people aren't meant to be.
We were those people.
We aren't meant to be. He'll always side with his Bua, no one else. He will always react before he tried to find out the truth. Now, it's too late.

"Hello?" I said on call, my voice breaking, "Pri. Listen. Can I come over please?"
"Babe, O...Of course." She said and I instantly called a cab and drove to her house.

Once I reached, she opened the door and Aditi and Priya were there. I narrated everything to her and cried. Cried for the last 5 years when I hadn't. Cried for the last horrible month of my marriage. My marriage which ended. It's done.
"You told me to give it a try. Look where it got me Priya." I said through tears, "He'll never love me."
"I'm sorry Nishtha. I'm sorry." Pri said.
"Just stay with me tonight if you want since Pri has her parents here, I don't think they'd want to know anything right now." Aditi said.
I nodded.
"Where are your bags?" She asked.
"Outside. Yuvaan had gotten all my stuff packed before he pushed me out." I scoffed.
"I'm sorry."
"I'm never going back to him." I said, "Once the trip ends, I'm going to find a new house and I'm going to file for divorce. Screw this marriage."
