The days at Blue Lock had been both exhilarating and exhausting. The pressure was always palpable, and every training session felt like it could make or break a player. But you had come to realize that this was exactly where you belonged. You'd pushed yourself to new heights, surprising even the most confident players with your speed and skill. Still, there was one thing you couldn't shake—the quiet pull you felt toward Rin.
It had started innocently enough—those fleeting moments when your eyes met across the field, the occasional banter between the two of you—but lately, it had become something more. Something you couldn't quite explain.
You had always been close friends, but now, there were moments when you felt a shift in the air. A tension that wasn't there before.
And it wasn't just you who noticed.
"Hey, do you think [Your Name] and Rin are...?"
Yoichi, one of the players in your group, trailed off as he and the others watched the two of you interact.
Ryo, another player, raised an eyebrow. "You mean, are they getting close?"
"Yeah, there's definitely something going on there," Yoichi said, glancing between you and Rin, who had just finished an intense training drill. "I don't know what it is, but the way they look at each other... it's different."
"I've been noticing that too," Ryo chimed in, leaning against the fence. "Rin's usually so focused on himself, but lately, he keeps looking your way, [Your Name]."
You hadn't noticed it at first. You were too focused on your own game, too determined to prove yourself in Blue Lock. But now that they mentioned it, you couldn't help but wonder. Was there something between you and Rin that neither of you were acknowledging? Or was it just the stress of Blue Lock making everything feel more intense than it actually was?
The next day, you found yourself on the field with Rin, preparing for another round of drills. The sunlight was harsh, and the sweat trickled down your back as you focused on keeping up with his relentless pace.
Rin had been quieter than usual lately, his intensity almost too much to keep up with. His eyes rarely left the ball as he dribbled it past you, his movements sharp and calculated. But when you met his gaze, there was something different in his eyes—something you couldn't quite place.
"You're slowing down," he remarked, his tone more clipped than usual.
"I'm not slowing down. You're just going too fast," you shot back, a teasing smile on your face.
Rin raised an eyebrow, his lips quirking upward in a rare, genuine smile. "Is that so?"
You nodded, maintaining eye contact with him. "Yeah. You know, I think you're starting to get too comfortable with me."
That caught him off guard. He blinked, his smile faltering for just a second before it returned, albeit a little more guarded. "I don't need to be comfortable," he replied coolly, but there was something in his tone that made your heart skip a beat.
You didn't quite know what to make of it, so you shrugged it off, focusing on your next move. But inside, you couldn't deny the fluttering feeling in your chest. There was something happening here, something you couldn't fully understand.
The next few days only made things more complicated. Rin continued to push you in training, his presence like a constant pull on your focus. You knew he was trying to gauge you, trying to see where your limits were. But at the same time, it felt like he was testing something more—something that had nothing to do with soccer.
And then there was the way he looked at you. It wasn't like the others. It wasn't the same sharp, calculating gaze he gave everyone else. When Rin looked at you, it was almost like he was trying to see through you, trying to understand something hidden deep within you.
You tried to ignore it, to brush it off as nothing more than the intensity of Blue Lock getting to you. But the more time you spent with Rin, the harder it became to pretend that the tension between you wasn't real.
It all came to a head one evening after a particularly grueling training session. The sun was setting, and the air had cooled slightly as you and Rin stood by the edge of the field, catching your breath. The others had long since gone inside, but the two of you remained, lingering in the stillness of the evening.
"You're quiet tonight," Rin observed, his voice soft but not entirely without its usual edge.
You glanced at him, frowning. "What do you mean?"
"I don't know," Rin said, running a hand through his tousled hair. "You've been off lately. Something on your mind?"
You hesitated, unsure of how to answer. You didn't want to be the one to bring up the unspoken tension between the two of you, but it had become impossible to ignore. There was something in the way Rin had been acting—something in his eyes when he looked at you.
"I'm just... thinking," you finally said, trying to keep your voice steady. "About everything here. Blue Lock... the pressure, the competition. It's a lot."
Rin nodded, his eyes never leaving you. "Yeah, I get that. But you're handling it well. You're strong."
You bit your lip, unsure of what to say next. There was so much more you wanted to say, but it felt like something was holding you back. Something in the air between you and Rin was shifting, and you couldn't tell if it was the pressure of Blue Lock, or something more personal.
"Rin..."
He turned to face you fully, his gaze intense. "What is it?"
You opened your mouth to speak, but the words caught in your throat. It wasn't just the pressure of Blue Lock. It was something deeper—something you had started to feel for him, something that had been growing over the past few weeks.
"I don't know," you said quietly, your voice barely a whisper. "I just... I don't know what this is between us."
For a moment, Rin didn't say anything. He just watched you, his expression unreadable. But then, as if he were finally able to make sense of it all, he stepped closer.
"I don't know either," he admitted softly. "But I think I'm starting to figure it out."
Your heart raced as Rin closed the distance between you two. His presence was overwhelming, and the air between you felt electric.
You wanted to say something—anything—but the words never came. Instead, you just stood there, your breath hitching in your chest, as Rin's gaze locked with yours.
The tension between you two had reached its peak, and neither of you knew how to break it. But one thing was certain. Whatever this was, it wasn't going away anytime soon.
The next day, the realization hit you fully.
You liked Rin. You liked him in a way you couldn't explain, and you weren't sure if he felt the same. But the more you tried to push the feelings away, the stronger they became. And deep down, you couldn't shake the nagging feeling that Rin was hiding something from you too. Something that had to do with you.
But would he ever admit it? And would you be brave enough to find out?
For now, the unspoken tension between you and Rin was enough to drive you both forward—on and off the field. But you knew that sooner or later, something would have to give.
