It started with a simple suggestion.
"You guys should hang out with us more," Bachira said during practice. "You're always sneaking off together. Let's do something as a group!"
You had to admit, it had been a while since you'd spent time with everyone outside of Blue Lock. So when Bachira suggested a trip to the mall, you reluctantly agreed.
"Fine," you said, pointing a finger at him. "But no teasing. I mean it."
"No promises!" Bachira chirped.
The mall was bustling with activity when you and Rin arrived. As usual, the two of you walked in step, quietly discussing where to grab food. Your friends, however, were far less subtle.
"There they are!" Bachira called out, waving dramatically as you approached.
Chigiri, Isagi, and Nagi were with him, each looking varying degrees of amused. "Took you long enough," Chigiri said with a smirk.
"Let's split up," Bachira suggested. "We'll meet back at the food court in two hours."
Everyone agreed, but you noticed that even though you technically weren't assigned to anyone, Rin stuck by your side.
As the two of you wandered through the mall, it became increasingly obvious that people were... watching. Every store you entered, every display you stopped to look at, someone would glance at the two of you and smile knowingly.
At one point, a shopkeeper even asked, "Are you two looking for anything in particular? Matching outfits, maybe?"
"No, thank you," you said quickly, dragging Rin out of the store before your face could turn any redder.
"People are weird," Rin muttered, glancing back over his shoulder.
"They probably think we're a couple," you said, trying to laugh it off.
Rin didn't respond, but you swore you saw the corner of his mouth twitch upward.
After an hour of wandering, you found yourself in a small accessory shop. You were busy admiring a delicate bracelet when Rin disappeared.
"Where'd you go?" you asked, scanning the aisles until you spotted him at the counter.
"Wait here," he said without looking back, his voice oddly serious.
Curious, you stayed put, watching as he paid for something and slipped it into a small bag.
"What did you get?" you asked when he rejoined you.
"You'll see," Rin said simply, refusing to elaborate.
When it was time to meet back at the food court, everyone was already seated, chatting loudly as they dug into their meals.
"Finally," Bachira said, waving you over. "What took you two so long?"
"We were just looking around," you said, sitting down beside Rin.
As the conversation flowed, Rin reached into his pocket and pulled out the small bag from earlier. "Here," he said, holding it out to you.
You blinked, surprised. "What's this?"
"Open it," he said, his tone as calm as ever.
You carefully pulled the bag open, revealing a dainty necklace with a simple charm. It was understated but beautiful—exactly your style.
"Rin..." you said, looking up at him. "You didn't have to—"
Before you could finish, Rin did something you hadn't expected. He knelt down on one knee in front of you, holding the necklace up in his hand.
The entire food court seemed to go silent.
"Is he—"
"Wait, is this happening right now?"
"They're so young!"
Your friends were no better.
"WHAT IS GOING ON?" Bachira yelled, nearly spilling his drink.
"Oh my god," Chigiri whispered, eyes wide.
"Is this for real?" Isagi asked, looking between you and Rin.
Meanwhile, you were frozen, your brain short-circuiting as Rin calmly said, "Turn around. I'll help you put it on."
It took you a moment to process his words. "Oh! Right. Yeah."
You turned around, letting him clasp the necklace around your neck. When he stood up, you glanced around the table, only to realize everyone was staring.
"What?" you asked, confused.
"You—he—" Bachira stammered, pointing between you and Rin. "You guys aren't getting married?!"
"What? No!" you said, horrified.
Rin, ever the picture of composure, sat back down and started eating his food like nothing had happened. "You're all idiots," he said flatly.
"Then why'd you go down on one knee?" Chigiri asked, looking genuinely flustered.
"To put the necklace on her," Rin said, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.
"Oh my god," you groaned, burying your face in your hands.
By the time you left the mall, the rumor mill was already in full swing.
Group Chat: "Blue Lock Chaos"
Bachira:
RIN PROPOSED AT THE MALL.
Chigiri:
He didn't propose. He was just giving her a necklace.
Isagi:
Why was he on one knee then??
Bachira:
BECAUSE HE'S ROMANTIC.
[Your Name]:
I hate all of you.
Nagi:
Too much effort to care.
Reo:
Wait, Rin and [Your Name] are engaged?!
Bachira:
SEE? I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO THOUGHT THAT.
Rin:
Delete this group chat.
Despite the chaos, you couldn't help but smile as you walked beside Rin. The necklace felt warm against your skin, and for once, you didn't mind the teasing.
"Thanks for the gift," you said softly, glancing up at him.
Rin shrugged, his ears faintly pink. "It looks good on you."
And just like that, the chaos of the day didn't seem so bad.
