The soft sunlight filtered through the curtains of the room, casting a warm glow over Jungkook's pale face. His chest rose and fell steadily, the sound of his breathing filling the otherwise silent room. Taehyung sat in a chair by the bed, his elbows resting on his knees and his face buried in his hands, the weight of the past days etched into every fiber of his being.
The faintest of groans escaped Jungkook's lips, and Taehyung's head shot up, his eyes wide with hope.
“Jungkook?” Taehyung whispered, his voice trembling as he leaned closer, his heart pounding in his chest.
Jungkook’s lashes fluttered, and his hazy brown eyes opened, blinking a few times before settling on the man in front of him.
“Tae…?” he mumbled, his voice weak but filled with familiarity.
A gasp left Taehyung as relief flooded through him. He didn’t wait another second before pulling Jungkook into his arms, careful not to hurt him but firm enough to convey just how much he had missed him.
“You’re awake,” Taehyung breathed, his voice thick with emotion. “You’re okay… God, Jungkook, you’re okay.”
Jungkook winced slightly at the sudden contact but then relaxed, his head resting on Taehyung’s shoulder. A small, teasing smile tugged at his lips despite his exhaustion.
“Were you worried about me, Mr. CEO?”
Taehyung chuckled softly, a sound laced with both amusement and unspoken pain.
“Worried doesn’t even begin to cover it,” he murmured, pulling back just enough to cup Jungkook’s cheek with one hand. His thumb brushed over Jungkook's pale skin, as if reassuring himself that this wasn’t a dream.
“You’re my precious husband, bun. Of course, I was worried.”
Jungkook’s smile faltered for a moment, his eyes searching Taehyung’s face.
“You… mean that?”
Taehyung’s gaze softened, his lips quirking into a gentle smile.
“I mean it, Jungkook. I mean every word.”
For once, Jungkook was at a loss for words, his bratty persona fading as he gazed at Taehyung.
“I missed you,” he whispered, the raw honesty in his voice breaking something in Taehyung.
Taehyung leaned in, pressing a feather-light kiss to Jungkook’s forehead before again took him in his arms, resting his chin on the blond's shoulder. “I missed you too. More than I can ever say.”
The room was filled with a tender silence, broken only by the sound of their breathing. For the first time in what felt like an eternity, Taehyung felt at peace, holding the most important person in his life close and vowing to never let him go.
Suddenly, Jungkook broke the hug, taking a deep, shaky breath as he looked at the expression on Taehyung’s face. His heart ached at how much pain and anxiety his husband must have endured because of him. Slowly, Jungkook reached out, his hand trembling slightly as he cupped Taehyung’s cheek, his thumb brushing away the remnants of the already dried tears.
Taehyung blinked at the sudden movement, his brows furrowing in confusion. Before he could ask, Jungkook spoke softly, his voice tender yet steady, each word carrying an overwhelming weight.
“I love you, hyung.”
The sentence was so familiar yet had power that made Taehyung froze for a moment, his mind racing as the words settled in. Jungkook’s eyes, shining with raw vulnerability and love, pierced through every defense Taehyung had ever built.
But what left Jungkook absolutely bewildered and on the verge of malfunctioning was Taehyung’s reply.
“I love you too, bun,” Taehyung whispered, his voice firm yet filled with emotion.
Before Jungkook could even process what he had just heard, Taehyung pulled him back into his arms, holding him tightly, as if he never wanted to let him go. His fingers tangled in Jungkook’s soft blond hair, and his breath hitched slightly as he rested his chin on Jungkook’s shoulder.
“Hyung…” Jungkook’s voice came out as a soft squeak, his wide doe eyes blinking rapidly, his brain struggling to catch up with the sudden confession.
“Shh,” Taehyung murmured, holding him closer. “Let me hold you, bun. I almost lost you once—I don’t want to let go until I feel like I can breathe again.”
Jungkook stayed still, his cheeks a deep crimson, his mind malfunctioning like an overheated circuit. His bratty nature was nowhere to be found as he allowed himself to melt into Taehyung’s embrace.
For once, Jungkook didn’t have a witty comeback or a cheeky remark. His heart was too full, and his mind was spinning with Taehyung’s words. All he could do was cling tightly to his husband, feeling more loved and cherished than ever before.
The atmosphere in the room was warm and intimate, their heartbeats seemingly in sync as they held each other. But the moment was abruptly interrupted when the door burst open with a loud thud.
Both Taehyung and Jungkook turned their heads sharply, only to see Jimin standing in the doorway, his eyes widening momentarily before he clicked his tongue dramatically.
“Oh, woops! Sorry to disturb you lovebirds,” Jimin teased, spinning around with a playful smirk on his lips.
“I can call you that now, right?”
Jungkook’s face turned a deep shade of crimson as he quickly pushed himself away from Taehyung, burying his face in his hands. Taehyung, on the other hand, merely chuckled, thoroughly enjoying the moment.
“What is it, Park?” Taehyung drawled, his voice dripping with amusement as he gently tugged Jungkook’s hands away from his face.
“Can’t you see I was having a moment with my love?”
The teasing edge in Taehyung’s voice made Jungkook whine, swatting at Taehyung’s chest playfully.
“Taehyung, stop it!” he protested, his pout only making Taehyung grin wider.
Jimin spun back around, rolling his eyes in mock disgust.
“Gross. When am I going to get hitched too?!” he muttered to himself. Despite his dramatic complaint, a soft smile of adoration flickered across his face as he watched the couple.
But then, with a quick inhale, Jimin straightened himself, his expression turning serious as he addressed Taehyung.
“Well, Taehyung... we’ve got the names of the culprits.”
The room fell silent, the weight of Jimin’s words sinking in. Jungkook glanced at Taehyung, his hand instinctively reaching for his husband’s, seeking comfort. Taehyung gave his hand a reassuring squeeze, his face hardening with determination and something malicious filled his eyes.
