Jimin crossed his arms, sulking as he watched Jungkook emerge from their room wearing a simple black shirt and beige pants. The blonde looked effortlessly handsome, as always, but Jimin couldn't help but grumble under his breath.
“Seriously, Kookie? That’s what you’re wearing? You couldn’t have picked something that screams ‘irresistible heartthrob’ a bit more?” Jimin huffed, tapping his foot impatiently.
Jungkook only shrugged, a faint smile playing on his lips.
“Hyung, I’m not trying to impress anyone. It’s just Taehyungie.”
“Exactly!” Jimin said, eyes wide with exaggerated exasperation.
“It’s Taehyung! Your husband! You should be wowing him every chance you get.”
“Hyung, I’m not going to a fashion show,” Jungkook pointed out, grabbing the file Taehyung had forgotten. Jimin ran a hand through his chestnut hair, shaking his head as he muttered something under his breath about ‘wasted potential’, making Jungkook giggle.
Moments later, they found themselves at the grand entrance of Kim Tech. The building stood tall, sleek, and imposing, a testament to the generations of Kim’s hard work and ambition. The lobby was bustling with employees and visitors, all moving with a purpose. Jimin’s eyes sparkled as soon as they landed on the beautiful raven-haired receptionist sitting behind a polished mahogany desk.
“Well, hello there,” Jimin said smoothly, sidling up to the desk and leaning on it with a confident grin.
“I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone brighten up an already bright room like you do, pretty.”
The receptionist blinked in surprise, a light blush creeping onto her cheeks. She tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear, smiling shyly at Jimin.
“Um, thank you, sir.”
Jungkook stifled a laugh, shaking his head as he approached the desk.
“Hyung, really?”
Jimin shot him a playful glare.
“Shush, Kookie. Some of us are trying to charm our way into hearts.”
Jungkook rolled his eyes, turning to the receptionist.
“Could you tell me where Taehyung’s office is, please?”
Her eyes widened slightly when she recognized him.
“Of course, Mr. Kim. The CEO’s office is on the 15th floor.”
“Thank you,” Jungkook said with a polite smile. He was about to head to the elevator when he noticed Jimin still leaning across the desk, eyes twinkling as he whispered something that made the receptionist giggle.
“You coming, hyung?” Jungkook called out.
Jimin waved him off, not taking his eyes off the receptionist.
“Nah, I’ll stay here and admire this beauty a little longer.”
The receptionist blushed harder, and Jungkook couldn’t help but laugh.
“Just don’t cause trouble,” he said, a teasing lilt in his voice.
“Go win your hubby’s heart, Kookie!” Jimin called out, winking before returning his full attention to the receptionist.
Jungkook took a deep breath, heading towards the elevator. The nerves started to bubble in his stomach, but he pushed them down, focusing on the excitement of seeing Taehyung. He picked up his pace, and as soon as the elevator doors opened with a soft chime, he stepped forward in a hurry, not realizing someone was coming out at the same speed.
The two bodies collided hard, and Jungkook stumbled back a step, clutching the file tightly to his chest.
“Are you fucking blind or what?! Oh god, I am already late to page in to the reception and now this, this! Arghhhh!” The brunette spat out, her eyes narrowing in irritation as she smoothed down her crisp, designer blouse. Her hair was immaculately styled, and her makeup was heavy and meticulous.
Jungkook’s expression softened apologetically.
“I’m sorry, miss. I didn’t see you; I was in a bit of a rush.”
The woman’s eyes darted up, recognition flaring as she realized who stood in front of her. Her polite mask dropped instantly, replaced by a sneer.
“Oh, it’s you,” she said, voice dripping with disdain. “Mr. Kim’s beloved husband.” She practically spat the word out like it was poison.
Jungkook’s polite smile faltered, but he maintained his composure.
“Yes, I am. Excuse me, I really need to get to his office.”
The woman didn’t move, crossing her arms as she glared at him.
“You think just because you’re married to him, you can waltz around like you own the place? Some of us actually worked hard to be here.”
Jungkook’s eyes hardened, but he kept his tone level.
“I never said anything like that. Now, if you’ll excuse me—”
“Excuse you?” She cut him off, stepping closer as her eyes glimmered with envy.
“You’re just some pretty boy who got lucky. Do you even know how much people resent seeing you, acting all high and mighty? You’re not even worthy of Mr. Kim’s attention.”
Jungkook felt the sting of her words, but he took a breath, willing himself to stay calm.
However, the woman wasn’t done.
“Look at you,” she continued, waving her manicured hand dismissively at his simple outfit.
“Waltzing in here like you’re some kind of prince. At least try to dress like you belong by his side instead of looking like you just walked out of a coffee shop.”
And there, Jungkook’s patience wore thin.
His brow twitched, and the hint of a smirk tugged at his lips.
“Well, it’s clear to me why you’re stuck at a reception desk while I’m married to the CEO. Must be all that makeup weighing down your common sense.”
The brunette’s eyes widened in shock, her mouth dropping open slightly. She blinked rapidly, clearly not expecting such a sharp retort from the seemingly composed man.
Jungkook took a step closer, tilting his head as if studying her.
“And for the record, the only thing high and mighty here is the amount of makeup you’re wearing. Maybe if you focused less on how others got where they are and more on improving yourself, you’d move up a floor or two.”
The surrounding staff who had been pretending not to eavesdrop now exchanged amused glances, their eyes darting between Jungkook and the stunned receptionist.
“You… how dare you?” she finally managed, voice shaking with indignation.
“Oh, I dare,” Jungkook replied, eyes flashing as he straightened his posture. “Because while you’re busy hating from the sidelines, I’m going to do give damn about you and your opinions,. Now will you move sideways, I have my husband waiting for me.”
He stepped around her, leaving her rooted in place with a look of fury and embarrassment etched on her face.
"You will regret this, Jungkook. You don't know me...." she said to herself after a moment and left.
