"Hyunjin's in trouble," Minho announced casually for the general populace to hear. The moment he received the text from Hyunjin and no reply, he turned the burner off on the meal that could wait a little longer until he was sure that Hyunjin wasn't dead in his apartment.
"What?!" Jisung shouted from his place on the couch where he was bothering Jeongin, reaching a foot out to press on the controller in his hands to sabotage his gaming. Jeongin tossed Jisung's foot to the side and turned to look at Minho over the back of the couch with wide eyes. "Is it the vampires again?"
"...I dunno," Minho admitted. "He has a visitor."
At his words, the group was quick to scramble from their respective Rooms to interrupt whatever they had been doing. Even Chan left the studio where he was mixing beats, and at times like this it was nearly impossible to drag him away from his work. Felix, fresh out of heat, nearly dragged all of them by the ear all the way to Hyunjin's apartment complex because his instincts were always so protective. They always jokingly called him an alpha, especially in moments like this.
The moment they reached the lobby area of the apartment building, the sun sunk below the horizon and the lights were all off in the building. Not that they even worked in the first place. The first thing that Minho noticed was the pungent smell- so strong that he resisted the urge to gag as he pinched his nose.
From next to him- Jisung wasn't so lucky and looked like he nearly threw up in his mouth. "What is that smell?" He whined, eyes watering at the harshness of the smell- acrylics mixed with a smatter of red roses.
"It's Hyunjin," Felix was already at the emergency stairwell, only to be used as a fire exit, but since his apartment was so out of order, it was the only way upwards. And now that Minho focused enough on the smell- it was Hyunjin's newly presented scent, just, overwhelming. Strong. It smelled bitter, like anger and sorrow. Chan was the next to move behind Felix, so Minho dutifully took the rear of the group to make sure everyone got up safely. Just in case.
As he made his way up, the atmosphere thickened with pure distress as the scent only grew more prevalent. Jisung, from directly in front of Minho, faltered at the smell with his heat sensitive nose, so Minho gently nudged him forward in encouragement. Due to the mild setback, by the time they made it up to the apartment, they were the last ones.
The moment Minho and Jisung entered through Hyunjin's broken apartment door, the yelling could be heard (even through the thin walls) though the most audible sound was the distressed growl directly from Hyunjin's chest. And then the shouting of an unfamiliar man that none of them had ever seen before- not even in town.
The man looked threatening, and given the state of Hyunjin's bruised face, he was a threat. Despite this, Hyunjin wasn't cowering- no, he looked pissed. More angry than Minho had ever seen him because he was always their calm and sweet Hyunjin- even with his new wolf instincts. This was new territory, and judging by the way Hyunjin's coal black eyes flashed a brilliant color of anger, he had no idea what was going on with himself. He was no longer present.
Chan and Felix were already inside of the apartment and pushing themselves between the man and Hyunjin before the man could cause anymore harm (or before Hyunjin could sink his teeth into his face. Fangs poked past his lips.) Before Minho knew it, Chan was tackling the man to the ground like a linebacker probably to interrogate him on why the hell he was even here- and seeing that their leader had him handled, Minho turned back to Hyunjin.
Hyunjin who was about to blindly lunge at the closest person in his rage.
"Changbin!" Minho warned, though he didn't have to say anything because Changbin was already wrapping his arms around Hyunjin's waist and bending him backwards to lift him from the ground. He was shorter, but with the angle, Hyunjin's feet still lifted as he struggled and struggled against his hold. His little pup growls would have been cute, if it hadn't been for how utterly distressed he looked accompanied by his salting smell. His dark hair fell from his hair tie in his thrashing and framed his face- stressed tears fell from his eyes.
"Hyunjin!" Minho approached, trying his best to make his own scent as soothing as possible. As he got closer, Hyunjin let out a whimpering sound as he jolted in Changbin's strong arms. "Hyunjin! Listen to my voice, you need to calm down."
Minho didn't have an alpha voice like Chan did- but he tried his best to put a sense of command in his tone. He grabbed either side of Hyunjin's face to keep it still, running circles high into his cheekbones to calm him. "Hyunjin, you are here with us. That man can't hurt you anymore. You need to calm down."
Hyunjin only looked at him with unseeing eyes, and Minho knew that there wasn't much he could do. The pup's black fluffy ears were held flat atop his head and his tail whipped around behind him in tandem, thumping repeatedly against Changbin's thigh. Turning back momentarily, Minho could see Jeongin and Seungmin nosing around the apartment to make sure the man didn't steal anything while Chan and Felix remained on the tied up man like hawks.
"What do we do?" Jisung asked, an arm wrapped around Minho's elbow to steady himself because Hyunjin's distressed pheromones were probably making him lightheaded. He sounded terrified, peering at Hyunjin thrashing around in Changbin's arms. "He's not here he- he looks so... angry."
Minho thought for a long moment before nudging Jisung forward. "Scent him."
Jisung's lips pursed into a surprised 'O' shape. "...are you sure."
"Minho's right," Chan called from a few feet away, where he had his knee digging into the stranger's back, just between the shoulder blades. There was really no way he'd be able to escape his hold now, not when Chan was on top of him. "He's too out of it right now- get him scent drunk." He sent a pleading look to Felix, and Felix backed away from where he was crouched in front of the ragged man. Felix didn't look too fond at leaving the attacker, but he sent him a nasty look before he turned his back to him to approach a wiggling Hyunjin. Prompted, Jisung joined him.
The way they scented was polar opposite in such a way that it made Minho amused. Jisung was all soft edges, bumping his cheek and nose against Hyunjin's cheek, squishing his face with kisses. Hyunjin went still and his ears twitched back upwards in interest- though it wasn't enough to completely diminish the fog in his eyes.
When Felix joined in from the other side, he was all sharp edges and warm scent. He nipped lightly against Hyunjin's scent gland with his sharpened canines, and Hyunjin immediately shivered in Changbin's arms and finally barred his neck for Felix to turn his bites into apologetic licks and suckles against sensitive skin.
The room's dangerous smell was easily replaced by the familiar aroma of calming pheromones, and Minho instinctively found himself relaxing into the scent as Changbin carefully lowered a dazed Hyunjin to the floor. Felix and Jisung followed him down and held him up by either side as his head lolled forward. Minho carefully stepped over his clumsily splayed legs to crouch in front of him.
"Hyunjin?" He asked, gently placing a hand on his chin to lift it up and get a good look at his clouded eyes. "Hyunjin? Can you hear me?" He snapped and waved in front of his face, and Hyunjin didn't even flinch in response. Minho hummed, "he's out of it." He carefully let go of Hyunjin, and he let out a low groaning noise as he loopily leaned back into Changbin. Minho would have been laughing and getting blackmail material at his drunken mate if there wasn't currently a stranger in the apartment witnessing every second of it.
He turned back to the haggled looking man, narrowing his eyes dangerously as he got up from his crouch and stalked over to him. "And just who the fuck are you?"
