"Quick get supplies ready- water, food, pain meds, and anything else you can think of!" Chan ordered the moment he burst past the door of their cabin. Hyunjin had been concerningly limp the entire trip back, like a rag doll with torn strings, but the fever was boiling under his skin and threatening to tip even higher.
The first sign of a successful shift.
Sometimes, when werewolves turned a human, it didn't even work. Most of the time, in fact. But if the option was between Hyunjin dying from a vampire bite and Hyunjin dying when they were trying to save him- Chan knew the answer easily.
Felix, still not completely back to his senses, remained rooted to Chan's side as he breached past the nest room while Minho scrambled to gather the necessities for helping Hyunjin through what would probably be the most painful experience of his life.
In the end, Minho stayed by their side instead of rounding up the others because his alpha (normally not so possessive) refused to leave Hyunjin's side. Especially when he smelled so much like death after a vampire bite.
They howled to gain the others attention like they usually did when in wolf form. Because now Chan was too focused on making sure Hyunjin stayed alive for the process that his body was about to go through.
It was messy, bloody, dark, and sometimes life-threatening If Hyunjin's body were to deny the change. It was the flip of a coin, but Chan remained hopeful because Hyunjin spent a lot of time with them as it was and he should have gained a tolerance with their slobbery kisses.
Chan gently lay a very unconscious Hyunjin down onto the nest piled with blankets, and Felix was quick to nestle to his side. "Felix," Chan warned, sitting on the edge of the bed as Felix nudged his nose and licked at Hyunjin's newly forming scent gland. In his sleep, Hyunjun flinched at the contact because the area of his neck would be tender for a long while, especially with his scent glands pathetically trying to form and create a distinctive smell that only he could own.
Felix only whined and licked some more at the irritated skin, and Hyunjin muttered in his sleep. The dried and scabbed blood on his neck had clotted, but the ominous smell of iron still lingered.
Chan sighed and grabbed the back of Felix's collar to pull him back. "Lix, you can't lick or scent him right now, you're hurting him." Chan hardly used his alpha voice, but he reprimanded him just enough for Felix's eyes to return back to their normal color instead of the dilated black that they were.
Felix nodded sadly and looked down to Hyunjin, who only groaned in pain as his eyelashes fluttered against his flushed cheekbones, but other than the pained sleep, he probably wouldn't be coherent for a long while.
It was how Felix had been when Chan had turned him, at least.
Felix reached down to brush Hyunjin's dark hair away from his face, and winced upon feeling his temperature. "He's burning up fast."
"It's the first phase, it'll get worse." Chan agreed, and soon, Hyunjin would start writhing and twisting in the sheets to try and escape the pain. It was why he nor Felix decided to cover him with blankets like they would with a normal sick person.
"We should help him get more comfortable," Chan decided, after a moment of looking down at Hyunjin's chest rising and falling at a laborious pace. "He's going to sweat through his clothes."
Together, he and Felix worked on settling Hyunjin in easier. Chan settled Hyunjin, holding him up against his chest while Felix maneuvered his limp limbs to put on a gray cotton pair of shorts and one of his tank tops because he would overheat quickly. The less clothes, the better.
By the time they settled Hyunjin down onto a fluffed pillow (his hair pulled up in a bun mostly out of his face with only a few loose strands, courtesy of Felix.) The sound of the front door bursting open accompanied by the panicked yelling of the rest of the pack could be heard.
