Hyunjin felt like every single one of his nerve endings were on fire. Alight with fireworks and sending false pain signals singing through his entire body even if the only enemy that his body was fighting was himself.
He didn't know much of what happened, only the pain that followed.
The sharp, never ending throbbing because his entire body was on fire even if every few seconds, he got chills like he was suddenly disposed of into a snowdrift. His body was almost numb with pain, but not numb enough to offer even a small amount of bliss from it.
He couldn't talk, like something was lodged in his throat and refused to let him make any noises. The few noises that did escape past his lips weren't ones of a human.
The only comfort that was offered to him was the fact that he wasn't alone. Occasionally, he would wake up dreary to warm hands on his body, soothing him. Even if it felt like a million pinpricks of needless to his skin, he couldn't bring himself to pull away from the helpful hands because it was contact and his body craved contact even if his brain repulsed it.
He could feel the warmth on either side enveloping him like a warm painful hug. Almost so tight that it felt like a constructor wrapping around him- even if he knew that deep down it was Felix and Jisung offering comfort. There was a new animal inside of him that seemed to seek out the warmth even if he was already on fire.
And then there was the smells. The touch. The light. It was all too bright, and every time he got a whiff of one of the others distinctive scents, he wanted to throw up, but he also wanted to lean in and rub his nose instinctively against their necks.
His new instincts and his human side were fighting each other adamantly, and neither was going to give up the fight easily. It only prolonged Hyunjin's suffering.
He lost track of time, because the only way for him to track time was when there was intervals of particularly harsh pain.
He would guess days- or had it been hours?- later, when he could hear muddled voices above him.
"Shouldn't... be hurting this... much."
"It's... weird".
Those voices were familiar, the deep timbre of Felix accompanied by the chocolate smell of baked brownies.
And then there was the unmistakable sound of Chan- and even louder than his voice was his campfire and forest smell.
Hyunjin wanted them.
He wanted to hold Felix close and sniff at him until he was pudding in his arms and he wanted Chan to trap him in his arms until the pain finally subsided.
He didn't want them; he needed them.
It was like something shifted inside of his body at the thought, clicking into place like a missing pice of the puzzle.
Suddenly a foreign scent evaded his senses, like a flower shop mixed with the unmistakable scent of acrylic paints. It only took him a lagging moment to realize that the smells were coming from him.
"...Jin?" Felix's concerned voice asked, and he sounded close. Tauntingly close. With renewed fire, Hyunjin tried to tell him something, but all that came out was a choked noise from his throat. Struggling, he blindly pawed at the empty air above him until he finally touched something warm and solid- Chan.
He could feel something rubbing against his sensitive neck- a nose- before another voice joined them. Jisung. "It's... starting."
And Hyunjin was too confused and too drowsy to ask what he meant by that.
All he knew was the sudden feeling of nausea that boiled up his throat accompanied by a stabbing pain so deep that it could only have accumulated from directly inside of his bones.
