"Hey, Neo..." You leaned your forehead against the cold bars, holding a bowl of steaming stew in your hands. Barely any light made its way into your brother's cell through the little peeping window cut into the middle of his door, but the purple glowing of his eyes blinking towards your direction helped you find him in the darkness.

He was sitting in one of the farthest corners of the little premise, pulling himself into a small shadow against the wall.  He seemed stressed, but to be honest, he'd been stressed ever since you brought him here with Ekko and Scar. And you knew it was because he didn't trust neither himself nor the thickness of the door to his 'new home'. You hated that you came here to put another weight onto his shoulders but there seemed to be no other way.

"I think I need your help..." you said unsure and you noticed how he instantly moved for that. He raised his head to be able to listen to you better but he restrained himself to the shadows and your heart sank. Even in this state you still seemed to be his top priority... He should have been focusing on getting better instead...

Now especially. Your incident with the tree happened 2 days ago, and you haven't been able to use your powers ever since... Every time you tried, you felt that this something that corrupted the tree was still hiding inside you somewhere, putting a leash on your healing abilities...

You still also had coughing episodes and every time, you coughed up the same oily slime... Which both worried you and calmed you at the same time that maybe this thing was slowly discharging from your system.

You haven't told about it anyone yet. Ekko was scared to death enough without this detail when that something in the tree kicked you away but you tried to calm him as much as you could.

"It's nothing serious..." you told him but your voice sounded too hoarse to be believable...

"Don't say that bullshit again..." Ekko replied vehemently and you sighed because you knew it was only because he was worried. He sat down on the edge of his bed and started massaging his face with his gloved palms. "Sorry, I just..." he started but you cut him off. He didn't need to explain himself, you would have reacted the same way if the roles were reversed.

"I know..." you sat down beside him and leaned your head against his right shoulder. You felt him deflate for your touch and you reached your left hand for his right. He immediately braided his fingers with yours and your stomach crumbled into an uncomfortable knot as you opened your mouth to lie to him. "I'm really okay. You don't have to worry about me. I can't tell you what exactly happened, but I'm fine now." you squeezed his hand and you were glad that he couldn't see your face at that moment.

"Promise me you will tell me if anything worsens, okay?" he pulled your knuckles to his lips to breathe a soft, longing kiss on them and your heart shattered to pieces as you needed to lie again...

"Promise," you said quietly and quickly distracted the subject from you. "We have to solve the tree's matter..."

"I will talk to Heimerdinger about it," he said tiredly and you hummed in agreement. That was probably the best thing to do now. Also, you were glad that he decided to leave your part of the topic be, even if it made you feel terrible that you had to lie to him.

The truth was that you were scared like never before about losing your powers once and for all, which you found funny because only a year ago, you would have given anything to get rid of them and live the most normal life one could have lived in Zaun...

But a year ago everything else was different... You didn't have all these people that needed your help, your brother was still himself and you had to hide because of your powers.
