"What?" You blinked in your surprise. The room suddenly fell uncomfortably silent around you. "Why?" you asked, as you felt the same, cold, unnerving grip forming a knot on your insides you'd only felt three times before in your life.

Once, when you waited for your parents in vain, once when Ekko almost died on the bridge, and once when Ajuna...

"I need to see those researches with my own eyes to make sure..." he sighed tiredly and you felt a panicked lump in your throat. You reached your hand to turn his face to look at you desperately, hoping he could read your mind because you were afraid that your words wouldn't be enough to convince him.

"Please don't..." you asked him weakly. You felt all the blood leave your complexion as you were scared like never before. You couldn't lose him as well... "I have a very bad feeling about this,"

He seemed hesitant as his eyes searched your face and for a second you started hoping that maybe he would listen to you - but then he looked away and you immediately knew what he was going to say.

"I can't risk anything important getting overlooked and two heads are better than one," he shook his head.

"No, Ekko, please..." you begged him as you grabbed his arm as if holding onto him now could keep him back from whatever he set his mind on. "You don't understand... I had this same feeling when Ajuna disappeared..." You explained to him and you saw him furrowing his brows. Your words definitely surprised him, but you could see that he didn't take them as seriously as he should've.

After the events of the Memorial, Piltovians believed everyone from Zaun was a terrorist. Sneaking into the laboratory of the wealthiest folks just now was way too reckless.

"I'll be with Heimerdinger..." Ekko replied in the end and you felt your panic turn into desperate anger in just a blink of an eye.

"God dammit, Ekko..." you let go of him to jump off the table followed by his surprised gaze."This is exactly why I didn't want to tell you!" you raised your voice in your helpless frustration. "You always think that every problem in this world is yours, and only yours to deal with..." you gestured widely around yourself, and it was your turn now to start walking up and down in his room.

You felt an unexplained, growing tension along with your anger that made you more and more nervous with each passing second.

"And you always think that not telling me what's going on with you solves anything," the boy replied, equally frustrated, and you scoffed.

"Tell me how marching into Piltover just now will help me?" you felt the tears of anger burn your eyes as you were boiling from the inside and you hated that. You felt dizzy and strange as if the world waved around you. You literally felt like you could blow up any second, like a bottle of booze shaken too violently before being opened up.

"If anything happens to you..." you started weakly, but it was Ekko who cut you off this time.

"What could even happen to me?" he honestly didn't seem to understand your worry and deep down you couldn't blame him. You probably wouldn't be reacting this way either if it weren't for that feeling... Also, you weren't a fortune teller and you understood why he didn't want to believe solely your instincts when there were such important matters to solve. But still, three times before, your instincts were right...

"Are you seriously asking this? After seeing what the enforcers do to..." you started but couldn't finish your sentence. It felt as if your insides suddenly morphed around in your torso as you fell onto your knees and screamed up in pain with the last remaining breath in your lungs. Your whole body was burning as your muscles cramped and you wanted to hug your stomach, in a desperate attempt to ease the pain, but your arms literally glitched right in front of your eyes.

"Ekko..." you tried to call his name as your first instinct but he was already kneeling beside you, holding your body close to his to prevent you from falling further down.

"I got you," he said and you heard the panic in his voice. For a short, very scary second, you felt you would explode soon, but as quickly as it came, the pain went away just as suddenly.

You felt your limbs loosen and you could finally breathe again. You were sweaty, trembling, and just as terrified as when you were trying to heal the tree a few days ago.

"Y/N..." Ekko pulled your frame closer to his and you desperately buried yourself into his chest. "What the hell is happening to you...?" you heard his puzzled question through the drumming of your own heartbeats echoing way too loudly inside your ears.

Fuck.

You gathered yourself to wipe the tears of pain from your eyes and leaned back to look at him. His face was worried and confused as he looked back at you, searching for signs of another seizure like this along your body.

"Whatever this is inside me, it seems like it doesn't like me feeling too many emotions at once..." You tried to joke weakly but Ekko didn't laugh. He furrowed his brows so hard that they were almost touching each other and you were sure that whatever happened to you just made him even more sure that he needed to go with Heimerdinger...

"Please, don't go..." you tried one more time as you saw the growing determination in his gaze and he shook his head. The wrinkles on his forehead were the deepest you'd ever seen them as he started speaking.

"I will not sit and watch this thing slowly poison you as well," he said. He seemed both desperate and determined and you knew you lost this battle as you searched his face. The grip on your stomach was even stronger and colder as your mind was desperately trying to find a reason that could convince him but you knew very well that there was nothing at this point that could have made him stay.

Both you and the tree were important to him enough to not listen to your 'guts'... And after seeing you like this, you were sure he wouldn't believe you when you said you were going to be all right. To be honest, it was hard to believe for you now as well... But you didn't care what happened to yourself if finding a solution to your problem meant Ekko running into danger...

You tiredly leaned your forehead against his and felt his gloved palms against your neck.

"Promise me you will come back..." you whispered desperately and he placed a soft kiss on the top of your hair as his hands hugged you to him even tighter.

"I will be fine..." he started but you cut him off. You didn't need any false reassurement.

"Promise me you will come back!" you asked him more definitely this time and leaned back to look into his eyes, trying to shake off the feeling that you were looking at him for the last time as he finally nodded.

"I promise I will come back,"
