You passed by yet another glorified painting of her, unconsciously pausing your steps to look at it... It was like the tenth already and you were starting to feel like you were the last remaining person in Zaun who couldn't forget all the things Jinx had committed hand in hand with her father.

You were grateful for what she did at Bilgewater. You truly were... Without her, Scar and the other Firelights would still be rotting in prison several stories underground and you wouldn't have been able to get them out of there yourself...

But it was just one good deed against thousands of other of the worsts...

You thought about Eve, the Council, and everyone the enforcers had punished in the Undercity because of her actions. And then there was Ekko as well... How could even Scar out of all people have forgotten that Jinx literally almost killed Ekko...

You noticed Neo's held-back growling next to you as he was also watching the painting, snapping you out of your train of thoughts. His eyes were filled with pain and anger and you knew he was thinking the same as you... You reached for his hand to squeeze his fingers in a comforting sort of way and his growl immediately quieted down.

"You're with me, huh?" you smiled at him understandingly, and your brother nodded for that.

"Always," Neo grunted, and you felt your chest warming up as you thought about how eternally glad you were to have him by your side again... And the thought that he might be fully healthy again soon, made your heart want to happily jump out from under your ribs.

You were so preoccupied, the you didn't notice Rei stepping next to you.

"The Savior of Zaun," the boy said seriously and both your and your brother's heads turned to look at him in your surprises. "Where would I be without her and her father?" he went on almost sentimentally as he pretended he was thinking. "Oh, right, I would still be at home with my very alive mother..." He finished, changing his tone into a more bitterly sarcastic one and you let out a relieved sigh as for a second you believed he was serious.

The boy told you that he lost his only family, his mother, in one of the shimmer factories when a Chemtank was accidentally set free... Even just thinking about what happened to her made you nauseous... You looked at Rei's grey eyes twinkle for a second and your heart sadly sank for him.

"I don't know how could anyone follow her..." he scoffed, shaking his head, as he stepped away from the painting.

"We're living in the craziest reality, it seems..." you replied quietly as you followed him, pulling your brother by his hand to come after you.

"Yeah..." you heard Rei's mumble echoing louder among the high stone cliffs guarding your paths from both sides of the trodden road you were walking on. "Still doesn't sound as crazy as the one in which we know each other very well..." he murmured playfully as he slowed down to walk next to you with a flirty expression on his face and you shook your head, holding back a small chuckle.

"Why are you here again?" you asked, trying to keep a straight face. Neo by your side grunted, the sound of it reminding you of a small laugh.

"The children, remember? Also, you know about my birthmarks..." Rei bent closer to you, pretending to talk about some very important secrets. "I can't just let you get away with that information on your hands... It's confidential..." he added seriously and you rolled your eyes at that as you pushed him away, unable to compress your smile completely.

You noticed Rei acknowledging it almost proudly and you felt your cheeks warming up under his gaze as you shook your head.

You had to admit that you had grown to like the boy's company in the past weeks and he became a friend of yours. Especially since he helped you bring all the children who you had been taking care of - and who were willing to come with you - to the Firelight base. After all, it was supposed to be a shelter for those in need and not just some empty hollow it had become ever since Ekko disappeared...

You promised yourself you'd take care of the hideout as best as you could and, after so many months, you finally felt like you were succeeding... Even if Scar, Raven, and the other firelights weren't really with you in that anymore...

They wanted to fight and you wanted to help. And you couldn't blame them, even though you missed them...

You sighed sadly as you were nearing the Herald's commune. You were following the path the children told you about, more and more people joining you the closer you got. Limping and moaning in pain, all looking for a way to free themselves from their miseries...

You sighed sadly as you thought about how you couldn't help them anymore. All you were capable of was hurting others now... But maybe that would also change soon...

"We're almost there," you said when you noticed the road widening in the distance, leading to a strange valley that, from that far at least, seemed like it was lit by Sunlight. You looked above yourself, wondering how was that even possible so deep underground...

You excitedly fastened your step, and both your brother and Rei did the same. You were almost impatient as you hurried through the gates but as you walked past the people living there, your smile faded a little...

They all seemed so peaceful and yet you felt an unpleasant, cold shiver run down your spine. All the hair on your nape reached towards the sky and you clung onto Neo's arm instinctively.

The faces looking back at you were all smiling welcomingly, but when you looked into their eyes you felt like you were looking into an empty void instead...

You looked around and as your gaze jumped from building to building, all braided with a strange kind of plant, you felt a nervous knot forming on your insides... The leaves of these plants were seemingly patterened by the same kind of infectipn that attacked the tree, yet they were thriving...

"This place gives me the creeps..." you mumbled under your nose and Rei furrowed his brows as he was unable to stop looking around himself with widened eyes.

"This is the most peaceful place I've ever been to..." the boy answered confused and even Neo nodded in agreement, but you adamantly shook your head.

"I don't think it is a good idea to come here," you said as you halted in your movements, making Neo and Rei do the same. They both looked at you as if they were waiting for an explanation about your worries but you weren't even sure what you were worried about in the first place.

You were only sure that you didn't want to be there anymore...

You felt the same, stranger itch behind your eyes and the back of your mind that you hadn't felt being this strong in a very long time and the empty feeling coming from the people around you tightened your chest. As you looked at the faces passing you by, you got unexplainably sad...

"I-," you started, hesitating. But what if this was your brother's only chance? The small voice in your head spoke and you swallowed. For a second you wanted to go forward, for your brother's sake at least...

But then you remembered all the times you didn't listen to your instincts and you didn't want to commit that mistake another time...

"I think we should leave..." You doggedly stepped a step back, surprising both your brother and Rei.

"What?" the boy asked, blinking but you shook your head.

"Just... trust me," you asked him as you stepped another step back, ready to turn around yourself and leave. You didn't know what this 'Herald' had been doing to these people but you were sure they weren't healing them...

You knew everything about healing amd it wasn't supposed to feel cold and empty... On the contrary, it was rich and warm and lively...

No, you wouldn't let them touch your brother...

You finally turned around, ready to walk out of that place and never even look back but a man stood your way.

His skinny, metallic body was hidden in wraps of clothes as he leaned against a staff, long enough to reach above his head. His expression was peaceful as he looked at you - as if you were just an old friend finally visiting him after long, long years of absence.

"It's good to see you're finally here, Y/N,"
