"I'm glad you're okay, kiddo..." You heard Rei say, kneeling beside a little boy when you finally arrived back to them. The boy was only around 10 years old at first glance. His brown eyes, which you were sure once were full of life now were just as blankly peaceful as everyone else's here, and you sadly frowned...
This wasn't right...
Once you took Neo far away from here, you decided you'd come back - to try to stop if not Viktor himself, then at least stop more people joining his 'vision'...
You said nothing as you watched Rei and the kid talk - though it was mostly Rei speaking. You took a hold of your brother's hand and whispered to him sadly.
"I'm sorry but we have to leave... I'm not letting him turn you into one of them..." you said sadly as you placed your palm onto his face to comfort him and you saw the questioning twinkle in his eyes.
"I will tell you why, once we're back home. I just want to leave this place behind as soon as possible..." You saw his gaze search yours for a few seconds before nodding.
"O-okay..." he answered and you felt terrible because ever since you learned about the existence of the Herald, you had been promising Neo that he would finally get better... And now you took that hope away from him...
"He can help your brother as well." The kid with which Rei had been talking to suddenly turned away from him to face you and you looked at him, startled for a second.
Like a hive of wasps... You thought and you finally shook your head as you snapped out of your surprise and swallowed as you stepped a step closer to him, trying to cover your brother's figure with your own.
"You can tell your Herald that if he ever tries to lay a hand on my brother, I'll show him what he turned my powers into!" You replied a little too vehemently and that made Rei stand up immediately.
"What is wrong with you?" He asked honestly. To him, you probably looked unreasonably angry at a literal child who just offered you help but you stood his gaze.
"Rei... look at him..." you gestured at the little boy. "Does he seem like the same person you used to know?" You asked with a racing heart and you saw the boy's eyes hesitantly jump back at the kid.
"Of course not..." he said unsure. "He doesn't have to worry about getting crushed in a mine anymore..." he reasoned and you shook your head frustrated. You would explain everything to him later. But first, you had to leave this place behind.
The cold feeling was getting stronger and stronger on your insides and you felt your panic slowly rise. This time you wouldn't let it be ignored like so many times before... Not once more...
"Can't we just leave for now... Please?" You begged him desperately and you were expecting Rei to start arguing with you - Ekko would have probably done that until you had no chance but to agree with him...
But after a few seconds, Rei finally sighed. You saw his shoulders deflate and you blinked as you thought he would react differently.
"Okay, but can you tell me what's going on later...?" he asked and you felt a relieved warmness inside your chest - just a few more minutes and you would finally leave this place behind for good - and with it the feeling of the cold shiver that had been constantly dancing across your spine...
"This is honestly the most peaceful place in Zaun I've ever..." Rei started muttering, shaking his head but he couldn't finish his sentence a sudden, as loud explosion shook the cave around you, making your heads turn to look in the direction.
