Season 2 - Chapter 1

Ekko's room felt quiet, despite the noises of the Firelight hideout making their way inside through his window. The two of you were both sitting by his desk, leaning above a couple of leaves fallen from the tree, all seemingly sick from something you'd never seen before.

"It looks like an infection..." Ekko mumbled as he observed a single leaf under one of his many magnifying glasses. You were also holding one in your hand and saw how its lively green had been tainted with shiny, oil-like patches that ran through its whole surface.

"It's spreading so quickly..." he frowned in his helpless anger, slamming the leaf onto the table. "Last week the tree was as healthy as ever, and today there are heaps of leaves everywhere..."

You looked at Ekko's worried face and your heart sank. This tree meant everything to him... You needed to do something, even though you had no idea whether your powers worked that way or not. You'd only ever used them on living beings that actually breathed... Nothing like this tree before, without any bones or organs...

"Maybe I can heal it," you suggested, hesitantly, and the young firelight's eyes got filled with hope.

"Do you think it would be possible?" he asked, almost begging you and even though you had absolutely no idea, you nodded. Trying couldn't hurt anyone, right?

"Why not?" you said, trying to hide how unsure you were. "It's a living thing just like me or you," you placed your hand encouragingly on his cheek and he reached to grab your fingers. He pushed them against his face to place the softest kiss on your palm and you instantly felt the spark of warmness inside your chest.

"I'm sure we'll find a solution to save it," you watched as he now brought your hand into his lap to unconsciously play with your fingers. "Maybe you could talk to Heimerdinger about it as well. He's like 200 years old and probably met a lot more trees than us," you said as you stood up, pulling him with you and you saw him consider the idea.

"Yeah, I'll probably do that..." he mumbled tiredly as he followed you.

"Now come on, let's see what I can do!" you were trying to sound more confident than you actually were, and reached towards the knob of Ekko's door.

"A-ah, wait a little..." he said suddenly as he pulled you back from the entrance and you stumbled right into his arms. When you looked up at him the expression he wore on his face completely stirred your insides, making your heart beat faster in an instant. The worry finally faded from his features and affection took its place. His eyes were still serious but his lips were smiling as he asked: "Have I mentioned that I love you?"

"Hmm... Let me think..." you pretended trying to remember. "No, today you definitely haven't," you shook your head seriously and Ekko chuckled warmly as he pulled you even closer to him to place a kiss on your forehead.

"Then, just so you know, I love you Y/N," he said knowingly and you buried yourself in his presence as you were also chuckling by now. Your chest was so hot that you were sure you could heal anything at that moment if you wanted to.

"I love you too," you whispered into his neck and you would have stayed like that for eternity probably if the tree's matter wasn't so urgent... With an aching heart, you let go of the boy to step outside his room.

The voices of the firelight base were louder than usual as more and more people had been arriving lately. The under city lost all of his heads as the enforcers specifically aimed to erase them. And Jinx, of course, but she'd been missing ever since her colorful explosions went off in Piltover.

Zaun had no leader at the moment, and it was clearly visible in the number of newcomers. You knew Ekko gladly gave everyone a shelter who needed it, but the firelight hideout wasn't endless unlike the wave of people arriving there every day seemed to be...
