Was she really... cutting her hair?

Now?

You blinked, checking it twice that you saw it properly, but there was no doubt about it...

First, Ekko wanting to pierce his ears, and now Jinx deciding on a new haircut?

What was it with everyone finding it so important to change their style all of a sudden? Maybe you weren't the only one losing their mind...

You watched her with your heart beating inside your throat as she struggled to reach the back of her head, trying to cut it even shorter with a knife that seemed both too dull and too long for a task like that. The braids you first saw her with were gone already - she arrived at the base with her hair barely touching her shoulders- but it seemed like she was so desperate to get rid of even more length.

And as you watched her awkward struggle, you... almost felt pity. She was nothing like you ever imagined her to be, after all the rumors you had heard about the ways she assisted Silco. There were no traces of her infamous reflexes, nor the coldness with which she took the lives of people...

She was nothing like the Jinx you once met, either.

She seemed so human.

So alone...

And you felt terrible, for some reason, for ever assuming she would be plotting something in there...

At that moment, all you saw was the person Ekko cared so much about, who became the way she was, because she didn't have the right people in her life when she needed them the most... And you understood the young firelight. You truly did. Just not what he did to you...

Your mind wandered to think about the possibilities of who you would have become if, on that day in the shimmer warehouse, it wasn't the young firelight who found you but someone else...

You let out a shaky breath you hadn't even noticed you were holding back, and started closing the door to leave. But then your eyes looked at her lone figure one more time, and your heart sadly twitched as you thought about Ekko once again...

And... you wanted to help her. Because helping her would mean so much to Ekko, you were sure about that. And his happiness meant so much to you, no matter how hard you tried to deny it...

Damn it... You sighed as you paused in your movements for a second.

"I'm no hairdresser by any means..." you said carefully as you pushed the door open. "But I used to cut my family's hair all the time." You finished as you hesitantly stepped into the entrance, showing yourself fully to Jinx.

Her purple eyes jumped to look at you with an untrusting expression as she quickly looked you up and down. You should have felt at least a little uncomfortable, especially after the first and last time you met her almost resulted in your death, but you felt nothing. No hate. No fear. No jealousy. Nothing... Apart from the same coldness...

"I could help you with that..." You nodded at the scissors in her hands, and you noticed the slight twitch of her brows as the thoughts ran through her mind.

"Used to...?" She asked quietly, searching your face with an expression that was too hard to read.

"What?" You asked, puzzled, as for a second, you had sincerely no idea what she was talking about.

"You  said you used to cut your family's hair." She explained, now looking away from you, pinning her eyes onto the ground in front of her, and you swallowed uncomfortably as talking about your past wasn't something you were planning to do. And her talking about your family immediately boiled your blood.
