Everyone has a fear of something, but apparently, Ray is more keen to admit it than Daisuke.
---------------------
Nice saturday afternoon, inkfish were chilling and minding their own business in Splatsville's square, enjoying the warm late summer sun. It indeed seemed like the perfect opportunity to hang out at the bubble tea shop to spend some time together, and that was exactly what Ray and Daisuke thought of for the day.
They weren't the only ones to have the same idea though, as the café was very popular and full of customers, but they still managed to find a place on their favorite spot where they were actually sitting at the moment. In the back, near the big window giving a splendid view of the city's landscape, it was calm and quiet, perfect to relax in a peaceful atmosphere.
They also wanted to test out the new drinks available for the season, mainly because a huge new variety of tea flavors and boba toppings of all sorts have been added to the menu, things they absolutely need to give a try to. Not forgetting the famous and delicious cakes that were sold here, perfect to share together as well.
Lazily listening to the background noise and soft music, they ate in silence, simply appreciating the ambiance and each other's presence. Daisuke stopped sipping from his brown sugar milk bubble tea (his personal favorite) to take a look at Ray next to him.
He was enjoying a peanut butter shortbread millionaire, one of the shop best-sellers. Daisuke's gaze fixated on something and, pausing for a second, he let out a small chuckle. Ray turned to him, raising an eyebrow.
"What's funny ?" He innocently asked.
"Nothing, you just have some crumbs on your face."
"Oh, where ?" Ray put a hand on his mouth, willing to wipe it.
"Not there, it's the other side." Daisuke precised.
"And now ?"
"Okay, lemme help you instead." He snickered, seeing it absolutely wasn't working that way. "C'mere."
Daisuke tilted Ray's chin with his fingers to pull him closer and quickly licked his right cheek to get rid of it. After making sure there weren't any other crumbs on his face, he parted away and Ray took this opportunity to steal a peck on the lips from Daisuke.
"You're a filthy kiss thief."
"Says the one who has just tasted me." Ray scoffed, stating nothing but the truth.
"Can't blame me for doing it." Daisuke teased.
"Sure, whatever you say Dai-"
A loud and brutal scream suddenly broke the tranquil feeling of the place, making Ray startled in the process. It seemed like it was coming from the very back of Splatsville, but it was so violent and powerful it was still resonating in the walls and in the inkfish's heads.
"Don't tell me you got this frightened just for that."
"Hey, it only took me by surprise. Nothing more."
"Fair I guess."
The customers of the café looked at one another, scared of having a right guess about the origin of the sound. In the distance, the light blue shade of the sky turned into a hot bloody red and Big Run emergency announcements from Grizzco replaced the usual programs on the screens, confirming everyone's thoughts.
"Great, looks like these fucking fishes decided to invade us again." Daisuke grumbled.
"It's been a while since that happened though." Ray pointed out. "That's kinda odd."
