(Pokemon AU) Daisuke is a young adult who's retracted in his solitude but one day he met a certain pokemon that will cut him off of his loneliness, with some help from Raiyaté.

---------------------

Morning, Daisuke's most hated time of the day. Because as soon as you open an eye and get blinded by the sunlight you know you'll have to come back to reality, escape the coziness of sleep and force yourself to get up only to be tired in twelve hours and crawl back into your bed again.

No, Daisuke definitely didn't like to wake up in the morning, or from sleep and naps in general. Time and obligations were always there to remind you that you couldn't lay a bit more in bed, stay warmly wrapped in the blankets or dozing off thinking about nothing. But no, you just had to move away from there and do something for your day.

Today was saturday and even though it was the weekend, Daisuke told himself to finish important stuff he kept delaying the past few days, which meant he was supposed to get up early to be prepared on time.

But in all honesty, he didn't want to, and that was understandable. It wasn't like he was going to lose anything if he slept for five more minutes right ? It'd be okay. However and unfortunately for him, he won't have this opportunity. Because his relaxing and beloved state of after-sleep was interrupted by the strange feeling of paws scratching his back.

It was rather minor at first and not really preoccupying, although it quickly became more insistent and Daisuke couldn't ignore it anymore. Not mentioning the fact it was itchy and therefore, absolutely not comfortable. Exactly knowing what could be the origin of that, he turned his head backwards to look at it, and wasn't surprised to see exactly what he expected.

"Ray, stop."

The luxray peeked at him over his back with what could be considered a smile and gave him an innocent look. Daisuke frowned and came back to his previous position, ignoring him. Until the scratching continued. He grunted exasperatedly and completely turned around, now facing Ray with a side-eye.

"What did I tell you about not doing that ?"

Ray didn't pay attention to his question and reached his hand to grab it between his fangs without hurting him and pulled it a little. Daisuke raised an eyebrow and easily freed himself from his grip to pat him on the head, not understanding what the pokemon had in mind.

"What do you want ?"

Ray's ears wiggled between Daisuke's fingers as he tilted his head. Then he meowed and pointed at the alarm clock with his muzzle. Daisuke glanced at it and mumbled seeing the time on it, understanding what all of that was for.

"Fine, I'm moving my ass."

Daisuke pushed the covers away, making sure to not yeet Ray in the process of course, and went to put on his black well-worn hoodie. After that, he bent down and delicately took Ray between his hands to hold him while going to the kitchen, distractedly stroking his mane on the way. To which he purred, obviously.

Despite being a luxray, Ray was smaller than most of them, still bigger than a regular cat but much more huggable, almost like a giant plushie. That was why Daisuke could carry him without too much difficulty and let him sleep in his bed sometimes. And Ray never lost an opportunity to snuggle up against him or even better, in his hoodies' pockets.

Contrary to appearances though, Ray wasn't Daisuke's pokemon. In fact, Daisuke never had one before and never bothered to try. It wasn't really his thing, and he had a lot of more important ones to handle than finding a companion. So Ray was a kind of an exception.

Daisuke found him injured around a street corner one day, when he was going on his way to work. Ray had gotten into a fight and really needed help. Seeing he didn't seem to have a trainer, Daisuke brought him home to heal his wounds.
