Daisuke is sick and Ray's taking care of him, but something seems a bit off for some reason…

---------------------

“Sunny, it’s not for you.”

Ray put away the pan before the drooling smallfry jumped on the bacon to eat it whole. Sunny whined seeing the food escaping and tried to run after it by bouncing on the counter but Ray didn’t let him. He snatched Sunny and landed him on the ground, but not ready to give up yet, he grabbed his ankle to give him sad puppy eyes out of desperation.

“Still no.” Ray frowned, showing it absolutely wasn't working.

Sunny groaned and Ray rolled his eyes, coming back to his now safe bacon and eggs like nothing happened. The smallfry let out a sound that looked like a grumble and dashed into the living room to pout on the couch.

“This won’t change anything.”

Sunny barked as an answer and buried his little head in the cushions, trying to ignore the delicious smell. But even though his ears were muffled, he still heard something softly dropping on the carpet next to him and strange whispered cursing.

He poked out of the pillow only to find Daisuke in front of him, hiding behind the sofa, putting back his phone on the coffee table. The inkling noticed Sunny staring at him weirdly and gestured to him to be quiet, confusing Sunny. He then peeked over the couch to be sure Ray had his back turned and kept moving forward.

“I know you're there Dai.”

“Shit…” Daisuke mumbled.

“You’re caught, it’s no use now. Get out instead.”

Daisuke stopped acting like he didn’t hear anything and came out of his hiding place, only to see that Ray didn’t look one time backward and was still focused on what he was cooking from the kitchen. Did he have eyes behind his head or what ?

“Go back to bed.”

“Y’know I hate staying idly by.” Daisuke crossed his arms.

“Maybe but you’re sick and the doctor said you shouldn’t go out for at least two days.” Ray insisted.

“I’m perfectly fine !”

Ray glanced at him over his shoulder with a look that said he didn’t believe him at all and that it will take more than that to change his mind. “Got a way to prove it ?”

“I’m doing better now.”

“That’s not a proof.”

“If I’m telling you I’m good then there’s no need to.”

“Of course…” Ray rolled his eyes.

“Then why don’t you see it for yourself ?” Daisuke blurted, upset.

Ray raised an eyebrow in response to Daisuke’s daring look and yielded to his demand. After turning off the hob to meet him, Ray put a hand on Daisuke's scarred cheek, then on his forehead, not surprised to see that he was right.

“Yup, you’re frozen and still have a fever.”

“So what, it’s not that big of a deal if I do.” Daisuke responded with an suddenly unusual hoarse voice. He coughed to regain a normal ton, obviously validating Ray’s doubts.

“Did you at least take your medicine ?”

“I don’t have to.”

“No but it helps you recover.” He shrugged, deciding to end this little argument by ordering him : “Go get some rest.”

“Fuck this I’m not moving.” Daisuke mumbled.

“Dai…” Ray sighed exasperatedly, pinching the bridge of his nose.

“You can’t force me anyway so whatcha gonna do about that huh ?”

“Alright, if you take it that way… You leave me no choice then.”

Daisuke watched him confused as Ray gently put an arm around his waist, and unexpectedly swung his back to catch his legs and lift him up in bridal style. Daisuke gasped out of surprise and grabbed Ray’s hoodie, afraid of falling for a second, clenching it tight.

“Relax Dai, no need to act like a scared cat. Although, I gotta admit that was kinda cute.”

“S-Shut up...” Daisuke blushed a little, before giving him a side-eye. “Ray.”

“Hm ?”

“Put me down.”

“Make me.” Ray scoffed at him, amused.

“C’mon.”

There was no point in even trying, Daisuke perfectly knew of all people that Ray was stronger than him (mainly because of his buffness) and that contrary to belief, Daisuke's taller height won’t help him that much to free himself from Ray's grip.

“No fair…” Daisuke complained.

Ray simply ignored him on this and carried him to their room. When he pushed the door open, the blinds were half-open and the light on the bedside table was still on. He approached the mattress and gently laid Daisuke on it.

But the moment he was done doing so, Daisuke pulled him back, nuzzled his face into Ray’s neck, his tentacles wrapping around his back. Now trapped, Ray’s eyes widened and, thinking more seriously about Daisuke’s attitude since this morning, it made him realize something.

“Wait a sec.” Ray gazed at him. “Did you really do all that just to have hugs ?”

“I was bored.” Daisuke grinned in his neck, proud of himself.

“Really ?”

“What ? I’m sick, true, but that doesn’t change the fact that I want affection. Y’know that as an aroace I like to cuddle with you under blankets so I can talk to you about dragons and shit.”

Ray rolled his eyes, although he couldn’t help but smile at the same time. It was true he’s been keeping his distance with Daisuke due to his sickness, but in the end, it just seemed like the best solution was to stay with him, like usual.

“Fine, lemme get breakfast here first so you eat a little something.” Ray said, giving him a kiss on the forehead. “And after I’ll give you all the attention you want, promise.”

Daisuke lightly purred as an answer, pleased by this plan and by the fact he won't feel so alone for the rest of the day. Ray hugged him a little more against him, gently rubbing his back as Daisuke rested his head in Ray's chest, hearts beating in unison.
