Full moon nights can be difficult for monsters, but it's less when a vampire is here for his werefish boyfriend.
---------------------
A perfectly shaped full moon shone in the black sky of Splatville, illuminating it with its hypnotizing sapphire light. Tonight was the time for monsters to come out of hiding, because their true nature was waking up due to this particular spirit, calling for freedom.
Like any other being of his same kind, Ray was no exception. After all, vampires were noble creatures who owned the night, especially this one. And while this moon was very stressful for other monsters, it wasn't his case.
He found it surprisingly relaxing and couldn't help but enjoy the almost supernatural beauty it provided. It had a singular effect on him and his true form, as his horns, eyes, fingertips and even ears were shining a brighter cyan color than usual.
It also seemed like he wasn't the only one, since splatfest was always happening at night, for the happiness of all the inkfish of the city of chaos. Ray could hear the attenuated music and cheer from the enthusiastic participants as the lights of the square were piercing the curtains of the apartment.
"So fucking loud..."
Ray's fins wiggled and he glanced down to Daisuke, who was resting on his lap in his half-werefish form thanks to his amulet. He had a painful look on his face, tightly grabbing the edge of the blanket in his claws, as the music beat ringed in his head.
Even with his artifact, Daisuke's ears weren't less sensitive to the ambient noise due to the effect of the full moon, which resulted in him having an awful migraine. He whined and buried his face even more in Ray's chest out of desperation.
Ray hugged him tighter, covering his ears in a vain attempt to relieve him. He knew the only thing to do was to wait but it still hurted him to see he couldn't do anything to help Daisuke feel better in those types of episodes.
Or maybe Ray could... An idea popped in his mind and he decided to give it a try. He gestured to Sunny to approach and communicated to him by telepathy to go get his phone. Sunny nodded and left to return a few seconds later with what he had asked him.
Ray thanked him with a little pat and connected his phone to his gamer headphones with the black cat ears on before gently moving Daisuke's hair out of the way to put it on his head. He then searched among his playlists and started the one he was looking for.
He made sure to lower the volume to the max of course and soft, chill, almost inaudible music started playing. Daisuke didn't move or say a word at first but opened his tired eyes after a moment and looked up to Ray.
"What is it ?"
"A compilation of songs I found interesting and helpful to help me calm down when I'm having an anxiety attack or when I feel one coming." Ray explained, whispering.
"You often listen to this ?"
"Depends, but it's very efficient to relax me so I thought it could do the same for you, but I can turn it off if it bothers you-"
"It's okay." Daisuke kindly stopped him. "I quite like it honestly, and I think it's working on me too."
"That'd be a good thing if it does."
It apparently seemed to be efficient indeed as he was able to focus on something else than the pain. Daisuke's expression changed to a more peaceful one and Ray could wrap the blanket around him now that he managed to release his grip on it.
"Feeling better ?" He wondered.
"Yeah, thank you."
"No problem."
Daisuke closed his eyes and snuggled up more in Ray's embrace, willing to take a nap. Ray kissed him on the forehead and gently stroked the scales of his back. Suddenly, he heard purring and couldn't help but smile.
"You didn't hear that." Daisuke blushed a little.
"Yes I did." Ray chuckled. "And I found it really cute."
Ray continued cuddling him and Daisuke's purr intensified, turning into an absolute loving mess. They stayed like that until the end of the night, falling asleep in each other's arms and waking up the next morning as normal inkfish, abandoning their monster forms, but in them still remained the same lovers.
