Chapter XVIII "Upcoming Trip"

(Y/n) POV:

I had finally felt started feeling better and managed to exit the infirmary; I also ended up walking home alone since everyone had already headed home for the day and the sun was already setting 'Just my luck...' I thought to myself 'I'm not sure what happened, but I still would've liked to thank Yaoyorozu for her advice,' I sighed from my thoughts.  Eventually I made it home with zero trouble, and upon opening the door was tackled into the caring arms of my worrying mother "ARE YOU OKAY?! ARE YOU HURT?! HOW BAD DID HE HURT YOU?!" She asked in a panicked tone.

Her hands were squishing my face, checking me for any sign of injury before my dad who also looked a bit injured entered "I told you, he's fine," he assured with a chuckled "What happened to you?" I asked "Ask your mother," he shrugged "What happened to him?" I asked my mom now "I showed him what happens when the words 'take it easy on him' aren't in his vocabulary," she explained with a huff.  Dad simply laughed, brushing off her words "He's fine! He gave me a bigger run for my money than ever before," he argued and mom only glared at him in slight annoyance.

"...I don't even remember winning," I admitted while shrugging "Ah! Right... yeah, that'll happen," My dad said with a chuckle "I'm sorry, what?" I asked in a bit of surprise "That kinda happens when unlocking what you just tapped into... the Avatar State," Dad explained, and I was even more confused then I was before. "We don't know how our family obtained it, but someone in the family tree unlocked it, ever since we've taken from their example," My dad told me before mom chipped in as well "Your body just couldn't withstand the increase of power, so you passed out, that's why you don't remember, but you won because when the body is no longer active, the State takes over in defense".

I slowly nodded along to what they were saying before eventually mom finally let go of me "We'll discuss on that more later, right now your father says he wanted to tell you something, but after that get to bed," she said before making her exit, still glaring a bit at dad which made him chuckle "And I thought I was supposed to be the serious one..." he muttered. I cleared my through to catch his attention again, making him turn to face me "So, I have something to give you in congratulations for your victory," he said, reaching into his pocket and handing me a scroll "Figured since you couldn't lighting bend anymore, you could use this in the meantime," he explained.

I took the scroll, looking at it before opening it and seeing artistic depictions of something I didn't recognize "Last time you gave me a scroll, it was to Lightning bend... and I nearly blew myself off a cliff," I stared at him and all he gave back was a smile "Trust me... you'll blow yourself off a mountain this time," he replied and I rolled my eyes. Looking back at the scroll, I read the technique name "...Combustion Bending," I muttered "Yup, it's what lets you get this," Dad then lifted his hair up a bit, revealing a third eye tattoo on his forehead "Once you learn how to use the technique, you'll get one as well," he explained.

Looking back at the scroll, I read it to myself before rolling it back up "Thanks, I'll keep it in mind," I said and dad turned around to leave "Right, now get to bed, you got school tomorrow!" he smiled, leaving but stopping at the doorway to look back at me over his shoulder "Also... learn to control that state, you blood bended me, and remember the rule about blood bending," he spoke with a more serious tone.  I was a bit surprised at what he said 'Blood bended? During the day?' I thought to myself, but responded nonetheless "Yeah, it's only a last resort and used in defense, not attack," I nodded.

Dad nodded back before turning back around and heading to the main room "...What a day..." I muttered and headed to my own room, tossing the scroll aside on my desk before falling into bed and getting comfortable 'Just a little more time... summer break is right around the corner,' then, after a few minutes of tossing and turning, I found a comfortable position and slept.
