Envy. That was the one word used to describe what everyone else felt seeing the relationship Naya and Kelly Oubre had. With Kelly now being apart of the Washington Wizards, more people began to pay attention to their relationship and felt the need to criticize them.
Both the families and friends of the lovely couple believed they were very in love and were meant to be. However, others did not want to believe that. It went from people making hate pages on social media to even Wendy Williams talking on her show about the young couple, dissing on how they acted in public {which was nothing bad, since they acted like themselves} and saying that Naya didn't deserve Kelly. They thought that it was possible to ignore the hate, but once it got out there that Kelly proposed, chaos started.
Things got so bad that neither Kelly or Naya could go anywhere in Washington without being bombarded by multiple people with questions and comments they had to say about them.
They would say things like, "Kelly, you sure you wouldn't leave her for one of the Wizard dancers?" or "C'mon Naya, you know he's bound to cheat on you."
With all the constant hate, deep down Naya really did begin to think that the two really shouldn't be together. Was it even worth it to keep this relationship if this was the result? She decided that she had finally had enough of everyone and that she was going to talk to Kelly about it.
Kelly arrived home after spending the day with the guys since he had to go through "rookie initiation" and Naya sat down next to him on the couch. "Kels, could we talk?" She asked, fidgetting with her engagement ring.
"Yeah. What's up, baby girl?" He asked, placing his hand on her thigh.
She sighed, "Kels, I love you... I really do. But, I'm so damn sick of all the crap they keep saying about us. We try to shrug it off but that actually really hurts me. So, I think that in order to shut them up... maybe you and I should just... take a break." She explained.
He looked at her, sadness taking over his expression. "What? No, baby girl don't do this! Why would you let them get to you? We're stronger than that. Fuck those people, it's just us. Not them, they're not apart of this relationship. Like I said before it's, just us." He said, not wanting to take the break Naya mentioned.
"I'm sorry," was all she said, before she took the small bag she had packed and headed to her mom's house since she originally was from D.C.
Days went by, and Kelly started to realize why Naya asked them to take a break. He himself got way too fed up with everything. He had an interview later on in the afternoon, and of course one of the questions involved Naya.
"So, what's the problem with you and your girlfriend, Naya?" The interviewer asked, causing Kelly to mentally roll his eyes.
"Naya and I don't have a problem. From the looks of it, you guys are the actual problem constantly degrading our relationship. You guys say we're too young to be engaged, yeah and there's people younger than us having kids and wanting to get married. You guys don't personally know Naya and I or understand how our relationship works. She's been there since day 1, and I highly don't appreciate the way all of the people out there have been treating her. If you liked me as a basketball player, you'd respect my personal life off the court," Kelly answered, leaving the interviewer and all the viewers shocked that he had stood up for his relationship.
Naya, who of course watched his interview smiled at the fact that he really did care about her and their relationship. "I saw your interview... thank you, by the way. I love you." She texted him.
Kelly responded, "You know I got your back, baby girl. 😏 But I love you too. ♥️" leaving Naya giggling.
"And another thing, can I come home now?" She texted back, obviously receiving an "of course" from him.
A few hours later, Naya and Kelly were back to how they were before the drama with the people began. "Babe, if they ever try to start the shit again.. remember that it's just us." He reminded her as the two cuddled.
Nothing could come in between them ever again.
